Mathematical Simulation Of Small Watershed Hydrologic Phenomena, V. V. Dhruva Narayana, Jay M. Bagley
Mathematical Simulation Of Small Watershed Hydrologic Phenomena, V. V. Dhruva Narayana, Jay M. Bagley
Reports
In many hydrologic investigations concerning small watersheds, data and observations are totally inadequate to provide a basis for outflow hydrographs. Consequently, a variety of empirical approaches have been developed which have limited rational validity. Hydrograph synthesis offers a reasonable approach to predicting the outflow hydrograph characteristics. In order to synthesize a hydrograph, it is necessary to mathematically describe the physical behavior of the dynamic processes involved in the hydrologic phenomena. Hydrograph synthesis may be considered to comprise (a) hydrographs (actual or simulated) of precipitation, (b) hydrographs of abstractions such as interception, infiltration, and depressional storage, (c) routing or translating the …
Arkansas Water Resources: Supply, Use, And Research Needs, Jared Sparks
Arkansas Water Resources: Supply, Use, And Research Needs, Jared Sparks
Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports
The purpose of this study is to identify Arkansas’ water resources research needs against an economic backdrop of water supply and use conditions existing in the state. In the aggregate Arkansas has an abundance of high quality water relative to present use. There are local conditions that give rise to water problems, but, in general, critical water problems in Arkansas are emergent and potential rather than actual. The causes of these problems are to be found, in large part, in the economic, legal, and social institutions surrounding water use--and particularly in the economic institutions. Research designed to improve economic efficiency …

Quantitative Analysis Of Stream Flow Rate Extremes, Hugh M. Jeffus
Arkansas Water Resources Center Technical Reports
Stream discharge data for the State of Arkansas is analyzed for representative statistical parameters. The statistical distribution most applicable to stream discharge data in Arkansas is the Pearson type III skew frequency curve. The parameters of the Pearson type III curve for all available records in Arkansas are included as Appendix A. The parameters of the logarithmically normal frequency distribution are included as Appendix B for mean daily discharge, minimum daily discharge and instantaneous minimum daily discharge. The logarithmically normal frequency distribution may be used for the lower discharge rates in lieu of the Pearson type III distribution except where …
A Subsurface Geologic Study Of Petroleum Possibilities In The Pennsylvanian Rocks Of Concho County, Texas, Gregory Paul Kraus
A Subsurface Geologic Study Of Petroleum Possibilities In The Pennsylvanian Rocks Of Concho County, Texas, Gregory Paul Kraus
Masters Theses
"During early Pennsylvanian time the area now occupied by Concho County was a portion of the Texas peninsula, a broad, low arch with a karst topography developing on its exposed Ellenburger surface. A mid-Pennsylvanian marine transgression inundated the arch and it became an area of clear, shallow water deposition favorable to limestone development. Local sedimentation during Strawn time was largely controlled by its position relative to the Llano uplift and surrounding basins. A variety of subsurface maps were constructed for this study essentially utilizing electric log data. The results indicate that limestones of the Strawn platform facies rapidly change in …
A Study Of The Molecular Emission And Of The Life Times Of The Metastable States In The Afterglow Spectrum Of A Mercury Discharge, Bruce M. Whitcomb
A Study Of The Molecular Emission And Of The Life Times Of The Metastable States In The Afterglow Spectrum Of A Mercury Discharge, Bruce M. Whitcomb
Masters Theses
"Two methods of studying the spectrum in the early afterglow of a pure mercury sample are discussed. Using a time-sampling technique, information about the intensity of the spectrum as a function of time in the afterglow can be obtained. The intensities of two molecular bands, centered at 3350A and 4850A, are studied. The method of formation of the diatomic mercury molecule and the emission of radiation in the two bands are shown to be density dependent. Mechanisms are presented which explain both the molecular formation and the radiation in the two bands. In an absorption study, the half-lives of the …

Masters Theses
"The pyrite-pyrrhotite belt is a northeast-southwest trending area about 35 miles long and three to four miles wide located in Jefferson and western St. Lawrence counties, New York, within the metamorphosed Grenville Lowland just northwest of the Adirondack massif.
Outcropping within this belt are a number of thin discontinuous quartz-biotite-oligoclase gneisses with an unusually high graphite, chlorite, and pyrite content, known as "rusty gneisses." Sulfides are concentrated in these gneisses into zones of up to 50% or more pyrite. The pyrite is granular or crystalline and is invariably accompanied by large amounts of chlorite and graphite and local minor segregations …

Ternary Phase Diagram Determinations Concerning Potassium Electrolyte Influence On Aqueous Solutions Of Dioxane Or Tetrahydrofuran, John Albert Mcnaney
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
For the graphical representation of the mutual, partial solubilities of a·ternary system, a diagram is generally employed which is based upon the equilateral triangle, whose properties are especially felicitous for this-purpose.
In this study, the phase diagrams for the following systems were determined: potassium acetate-water-dioxane, potassium acetate-water-tetrahydrofuran, potassium benzoate-water-dioxane, potassium benzoate-watertetrahydrofuran, potassium chloride-water-tetrahydrofuran, and potassium hydroxide-water-dioxane.
The systems, potassium acetate-water-dioxane and potassium hydroxidewater-dioxane, were investigated at 25° and 85°. This study indicates that they are, to a slight degree, temperature dependent. When these systems were plotted on a mole-percentage basis, it was found that both potassium compounds have about the …

It was found that racemic compounds could be separated by using an optically active material for packing in the gas chromatographic columns. Racemic 2-butanol, 3-methyl-2-butanol, and 2-methyl-1- butanol were …
Estimation Of Regional Trends In Gravity Using Gram Orthogonal Polynomials, Stanley Dean Thompson
Estimation Of Regional Trends In Gravity Using Gram Orthogonal Polynomials, Stanley Dean Thompson
Masters Theses
"A computer program is presented which estimates the trend in a rectangular array of gravity measurements. It is assumed that the regional trend of gravity may be estimated by a low-order polynomial. The method of least-squares is applied to solve for the low-order polynomial which best approximates this trend. Gram orthogonal polynomials are used in the solution of this least-squares surface fit. The program is tested on a known polynomial and on some hypothetical Bouguer gravity data and found to approximate the ʺregional trend of gravity in these cases. The importance of eliminating any significant noise in the observations before …
Infrared Spectra And Magnetic Properties Of Fluorine Substituted Copper (Ii) Alkanoates, Jose G. Rodriguez
Infrared Spectra And Magnetic Properties Of Fluorine Substituted Copper (Ii) Alkanoates, Jose G. Rodriguez
Masters Theses
"The purpose of this study was to prepare some selected copper(II) fluorcalkanoates, investigate their magnetic susceptibilities, study the infrared spectra of these salts and compare these properties to those of the unfluorinated copper(II) alkanoates….
The experimental data obtained indicate that the copper(II) trifluoroacetate, perfluoropropanoate and perfluorosuccinate does not form a binuclear cage structure. Copper(II) 3-(trifluoromethyl) butanoate with a magnetic moment of 1.4 should possess a binuclear case structure similar to copper( II) acetate monohydrate. The structure for copper( II) perfluoroglutarate monohydrate with a magnetic moment of 1.63 B.M. should have a structure somewhere between the two aforementioned structures"--Abstract, page ii.

A Theoretical Investigation Of Elastic And Voigt Transient Spherical Waves, And Plane Three-Element Viscoelastic Waves, Edward Hornsey
A Theoretical Investigation Of Elastic And Voigt Transient Spherical Waves, And Plane Three-Element Viscoelastic Waves, Edward Hornsey
Doctoral Dissertations
"A mathematical model of explosive generated waves in rock is needed in many areas of engineering endeavor. Investigations to date have been unsuccessful in obtaining a model that satisfactorily represents real wave phenomena at all radial distances and in all of the important characteristics.
In this investigation, spherical waves in elastic and Voigt media were investigated. Series solutions for plane waves in a three-element viscoelastic medium were obtained. A dual exponential pressure pulse, P(t) = Po (e-αt-e-ßt) was assumed because it can exhibit significant features of real pressure pulses while avoiding instantaneous rise time, which …
The Surface Morphology Of A Small Drainage Basin In The North Dakota Badlands, J. Ladd Hagmaier
The Surface Morphology Of A Small Drainage Basin In The North Dakota Badlands, J. Ladd Hagmaier
Theses and Dissertations
To describe the surface morphology of a fourth order drainage basin located in the North Dakota Badland,, the writer made quanti tative application• of known descriptive techniques and morphological laws.
The surface configuration is a function of the study area's linear, areal, and relief properties and surface elements. The linear and areal properties are determined from maps showing the drainage basin 's surface geometry, the relief properties are determined from large-scale topographic maps of the area, and the surface elements are determined by direct field measurements of the ground slopes, surface materials, and vegetal coverage.
The surface geometry of the …

A field study of the geology and hydrology of the Shell Creek area in southeastern Mountrail County, North Dakota, was made during 1966 in order to determine the hydrogeology of the area. Six lithostratigraphic and lithologic units were mapped. Samples were analyzed for grain size and mineralogy. Those units are the Fort Union Group, the “Lostwood” slightly-gravelly loam, the “Lostwood” sand-gravel, the “Lostwood” silt-clay, the “Little-Knife Formation”, and the “Coteau Formation”. Mine average maximum slope and drainage integration units were used to map the morphology of the area.
There are four magnitudes of flow systems observed in the Shell Creek …
Study Of Resonance Effects In Allenic And Related Systems, Robert Andrew Steinkamp
Study Of Resonance Effects In Allenic And Related Systems, Robert Andrew Steinkamp
Doctoral Dissertations
"In order to investigate the possibility of resonance effects through a non-coplanar substituted acetylene, synthesis of bis-(2,5,8-trimethyl-l-naphthyl)-acetylene was attempted. Condensation of acetylene with 2,5,8-trimethyl-l-tetralone to yield an acetylenic glycol followed by dehydration and dehydrogenation was expected to yield the desired non-coplanar acetylene. Comparison of its ultraviolet spectrum with that of di-l-naphthyl-acetylene would have suggested the true nature of the acetylene pi cloud. The acetylene condensation was unsuccessful, however.
Substituted allenes, which contain one sp hybridized carbon atom, were then successfully synthesized for a similar analysis of potential resonance effects. A series of para-substituted 4-phenyl-2-methylbutadienoic acids were synthesized and their pKa's …
Magnetic Properties Of The Bifeo₃-Pbtio₃-Pbzro₃ Ternary System, James Ivan Latham
Magnetic Properties Of The Bifeo₃-Pbtio₃-Pbzro₃ Ternary System, James Ivan Latham
Doctoral Dissertations
"The magnetic susceptibility and spontaneous magnetic moment of the perovskitic, polycrystalline solid solutions of BiFeO3 with PbTiO3, PbZrO3, and [50PbZrO3·50PbTiO3] were determined using the Faraday method. Pure BiFeO3 has a G-type antiferromagnetic structure. Although the perovskite BiFeO3 exhibits a sharp peak in the susceptibility at the Néel temperature, it does not possess a spontaneous magnetic moment. The solid solutions investigated possessed a spontaneous magnetic moment throughout the multiple cell rhombohedral region of the BiFeO3-PbTiO3-PbZrO3 ternary phase diagram, which extends from pure BiFeO3 to …

"Current terminology in the field of lineaments and linears (lineations) analysis was reviewed and quantitative definitions of the common terms offered. A general classification of lineations is herein proposed. Characteristics of drainage and airphoto lineations were reviewed and the procedure used in their analysis discussed.
An area about 1880 square miles was analyzed for lineations based on drainage networks and the resulting patterns showed preferred orientation. These drainage lineations were later compared with the airphoto lineations of the same area and a limited degree of similarity was observed.
The airphoto lineations of an area approximately 7000 sq. mi. covering the …
Kilocycle Range Dislocation Damping In Dilute Magnesium Alloy Single Crystals, Robert Ray Nothdurft
Kilocycle Range Dislocation Damping In Dilute Magnesium Alloy Single Crystals, Robert Ray Nothdurft
Doctoral Dissertations
"The kilocycle range dislocation damping and Young's modulus of single crystals of magnesium and single crystals of magnesium containing small additions of lithium, zinc, or aluminum have been studied as a function of strain amplitude, temperature, and time during annealing and following a high strain amplitude vibration. The data are compared to the Granato-Lücke theory of dislocation damping, the Granato-Hikata-Lücke theory for the recovery of damping following plastic deformation, and the Yamafuji-Bauer theory for the recovery of damping following a high strain amplitude vibration. Reasonable qualitative agreement is obtained between the Granato-Lücke theory and the observed dependence of the damping …
