Many theories have been proposed to yield a current-time relationship in Polarography. The most widely accepted is that of Matsuda. He assumes that the electrolyte can be separated into an inhomogeneous region about the mercury drop and a homogeneous region elsewhere. This assumption leads to a first order , nonlinear, ordinary differential equation directly solvable by substitution of a properly chosen series. The purpose of this research was to prepare the bisarylsulfonic acid esters of 1,4-butanediol and 1,4-but-2-ynediol.

This series of compounds is of interest because of the antitumor activity exhibited by the bismethanesulfonates of 1,4-butanediol and 1,4-but-2-ynediol. The compounds which were prepared were submitted to Cancer Chemotherapy National Service Center for evaluation in their anticancer program.

It was hoped that the compounds synthesized would be of pharmacological value. It was further hoped that the biological test data of these compounds would demonstrate a correlation between types of substituents on the aromatic nucleus and the degree of activity of the compounds. …

The Goajira Peninsula forms the northernmost extension of continental South America (see Fig. 1). Its lobate outer portion, the area of this geologic study, is a mountainous region about 75 kilometers wide at its widest part and juts 150 kilometers northeastward into the Caribbean Sea. Although only about 110 kilometers north of the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela, the Peninsula is isolated and little known. Only a narrow coastal strip lies in Venezuela; the remainder is in Colombia; but the Peninsula is largely a desert wasteland not extensively entered by people other than its own sparse Indian population. The chenistry of diamino dicarboxylic acids together with that of monoamino dicarboxylie and monocarboxylic acids in of great importance to the chemist because of the rolation- ship of these compounds to the biochemistry of cancer.

Diamino dicarboxylic acids in general, contain two asymmetric carbon atoms and may exist in one optically inactive and two optically active forma. Alpha-omoga diamino pinolic acid is the only member of the alpha-omoga diamino dicarboxylic acids thus far known to occur naturally.

"Puccinellia" is a tussocky perennial grass with an outstanding ability to survive salty and waterlogged conditions.

Considerable areas of saltland in Western Australia are suited to its growth.

Seed is now available commercially and in this article the conditions to which the grass is suited are described and establishment and management methods are suggested.

Occasional reference has been made to the relative magnitude of the catch of the blue crab in waters outside Chesapeake Bay, yet comparisons are not easily made unless data are readily available. Both parallel and opposite trends in catch have been observed. These could be reflections of the amount of fishing effort or the size of the crab stocks. Comparable records of other crustacean fisheries are often of interest. Compilations are given here of data on crabs, shrimp and lobsters originally published in "Fishery Industries of the United States" and "Fishery Statistics of the United States".

Bats, familiar to speleologists, play an important part in animal ecology in caves. Indirectly by their guano, they provide a source of food for numerous cave-dwelling animals and directly, by their own more or less constant presence. 26 species of bats are known from Switzerland, 15 of which occur in caves. Miniopterus schreibersi is considered the only true cave-dweller. The exact distribution of the rare species, including those occurring outside caves, is found in the text and is also indicated on the accompanying maps.

The cavernicole asellid Asellus cavaticus Leydig has been reared in our laboratory for more than twenty months, permitting us to give some data on the sexual cycle of this species. Females provided with brood pouches seem to be more numerous in the spring, as is the case with the subterranean amphipod Niphargus virei Chevreux. The average length of the incubation period seems much shorter than that of other troglobitic species such as Niphargus virei Chevreux or Caecosphaeroma burgundum Dollfus, so that the life cycle of our species is nearer to that of epigean Asellus.
