A Cell-Center Distribution Function For Liquid Argon, Arthur M. Soellner
A Cell-Center Distribution Function For Liquid Argon, Arthur M. Soellner
Masters Theses
"A theoretical expression for a cell-center distribution function was developed using a fundamental statistical mechanics approach. A free volume picture of the liquid was used with each atom located in a spherical cell formed by its nearest neighbors. Cell-center density distribution curves were obtained for liquid argon for temperatures of 84.4°K, 91.8°K, 126.7°K, 144.1°K, and 149.3°K and for argon gas at 149.3°K, and a comparison made with the experimental atomic distribution curves obtained by Eisenstein. For the first two temperatures a sharper, more definite structure was predicted by the cell model. For the remaining four temperatures, with the assumptions made, …

The Results Of Four Years Of Fish Eradication Work With Toxaphene In Nebraska, D. B. Mccarraher, Jack L. Dean
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: White Papers, Conference Presentations, and Manuscripts
Experimental use of the compound, toxaphene, (chlorinated camphene), as a fish eradicant was first tried in Nebraska during 1956.
During the period from 1956 to 1958 a total of 3,810 acres of water have been treated with emulsifiable toxaphene to remove rough fish populations. Concentration levels ranged from 0.05 p.p.m., to 0.61 p.p.m. The maximum depth of the nine renovated sandhill lakes was seven feet with an average depth of only 4.5 feet. Numerous spring seeps are found in all lakes and bottom deposits were organic muck and sand. The lakes are considered moderately alkaline in the 8.5 - 9.5 …
An Iron Fulgurite From Nebraska, C. M. Riley
An Iron Fulgurite From Nebraska, C. M. Riley
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum
From the time of the ancients man has been impressed with the force of lightning and its effect on the rocks at the surface of the earth. It was Saussure in 1786 who first wrote a scientific account of a true fulgurite, and a wealth of literature has been written about the subject since this time. Many unusual fulgurites have been described, some of which may not truly be the result of lightning. The iron fulgurite is a strange conical object about 3 inches high composed mainly of tiny spheres and filaments of metallic iron intermixed with a small amount …

An Introduction To The Study Of Chromatography Of Aureomycin ..., Øistein Skjellum
An Introduction To The Study Of Chromatography Of Aureomycin ..., Øistein Skjellum
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Part of a current research program undertaken by the faculty in chemistry at the College of the Pacific is concerned with studying chemical compounds which are favorably absorbed in Aureomycin. The reason for this preference of absorption is still not known. In order to determine the cause of this absorption, it is necessary to establish a method of recovering tetracycline and its derivatives from malignant tissue. When working with recovery of tetracycline and its derivatives, the small scale of operations immediately suggests the use of chromatographic techniques of separation, identification, and estimation.

Condensation Of Terephthalaldehyde And Hydroxyacetophenones, Ernest John Bonelli
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Organic pigments were the source of coloring matters used by man until comparatively recent times. It is to be presumed that the first steps in the use of these pigments no dyes resulted from the accidental staining of the skin or fabric by a vegetable material. Prehistoric man, in order to decorate his implements or his person, or even to make records of his mode of life, used the materials with which he came in daily contact. Coloring materials included earth and vegetable substances found in flowers, seeds, berries, nuts, bark, wood, and roots, and less readily available coloring materials …

Geology Of The Copper Deposits In The Eminence Region, Shannon County, Missouri, Lanny Lee Evans
Geology Of The Copper Deposits In The Eminence Region, Shannon County, Missouri, Lanny Lee Evans
Masters Theses
"Copper has been known to occur in Shannon County, Missouri since the early 1830's. A number of small deposits in an area around Eminence has been worked intermittently up to the present day. Little detailed geologic information is available on these deposits. The geology of the Eminence region consists of Precambrian rhyolite porphyry knobs projecting through dolomites and sandstones of Upper Cambrian and Ordovician age. A conglomerate of limited horizontal extent overlying the Precambrian is found at certain localities within the region. The only structures noted are the structural highs formed where the Paleozoic sediments lap upon the knobs. The …

Geology Of The Northeast Portion Of Des Arc Quadrangle, Iron And Madison Counties, Missouri, Wesley Dean Weixelman
Masters Theses
"A geological investigation of the northeast portion of Des Arc Quadrangle in southeast Missouri was completed during the summer of 1958. Exposed Precambrian rocks include, from oldest to youngest, undifferentiated purple rhyolites with an interlayered tile-red rhyolite, andesine basalts with interlayered tuff, and an andesite. A diabase dike intrudes the lower purple rhyolites. The purple rhyolites account for about ninety-seven percent of the Precambrian exposures. Exposed Paleozoic rocks belong to the Bonneterre formation and include three members: (1) Lower Brown dolomite; (2) Light Gray dolomite with Tom Sauk limestone and arkosic sandstone and conglomerate facies; and (3) Upper Brown dolomite. …
A Preliminary Search For Subionizers, Joseph B. Hughes
A Preliminary Search For Subionizers, Joseph B. Hughes
Masters Theses
"A number of physicists of recent years have been attempting to explain the basic nature of the universe in terms of particles. A few particles have been predicted theoretically, and some of these, along with many others have appeared experimentally, Searches for them have presented some interesting experimental problems and brought forth some invaluable experimental apparatus. One of these devices is the Wilson cloud chamber, with which this thesis is concerned.
Of the particles that have been discovered thus far, only the electron and the proton appear to be stable. The rest ultimately decay by the emission of photons and …

A Study Of The Heat Effects At Electrodes During Electrolysis, Howard Frank Holmes
A Study Of The Heat Effects At Electrodes During Electrolysis, Howard Frank Holmes
Doctoral Dissertations
Temperature difference measurements were made during the electrolysis of aqueous copper sulfate between copper electrodes. The temperature differences measured were those between the cathode and the anode, the cathode solution, and the anode and the solution. These values were obtained as a function of the time of the electrolysis. The variation of these differences with time and their magnitudes were explained in terms of the entropy changes occurring at the electrodes, resistance, and polarization.
The effect of some inert electrolytes on these temperature differences was determined as was the effect of gelatin. Explanations for these effects were given in terms …
