Sunrise And Sunset Tables Times For Jan.-Feb., 1953
Sunrise And Sunset Tables Times For Jan.-Feb., 1953
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3
Times of sunrise and sunset for every fifth day, are given for a number of towns throughout the State. Times for a town not on the list may be estimated if its position in relation to one or more of the listed towns is known. The times given for sunrise are those of the first appearance of the top edge of the sun over a true horizon; those for sunset give the time of the sun's disappearance below a true horizon. Situation in a valley would make the sun appear to rise later, and on a hill it would appear …

Soil Conservation Service - Basis Of Co-Operation, G H. Burvill
Soil Conservation Service - Basis Of Co-Operation, G H. Burvill
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3
The Soil Conservation Service has been established as provided in the Soil Conservation Act, 1945. To carry out its objectives will require the co-operation with it of individual farmers and landholders. The policy of the Service is therefore to encourage farmers to help themselves, and particularly to encourage them to recognise the need for soil conservation methods and for soil erosion control in the early stages. More particularly, the Service aims to provide, through its trained staff, technical asistance in the way of agricultural advice, research, conservation, planning, layouts and surveys. As indicated below, under the heading "Charges for Soil …
The Regeneration And Maintenance Of Wimmera Ryegrass Pastures Under Saline Soil Condition, F L. Shier
The Regeneration And Maintenance Of Wimmera Ryegrass Pastures Under Saline Soil Condition, F L. Shier
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3
Over the past ten years, Wimmera ryegrass pastures at the Salmon Gums Re- VJ search Station have been improved and maintained by periodic cultivation of the soil even without applications of superphosphate. On heavy crab-holey soil affected by high salt content and unsatisfactory for wheat growing, cultivation treatments have produced remarkably uniform stands of Wimmera ryegrass as shown in the accompanying pictures. The bare patches due to salt, have been largely eliminated. If the interval between cultivations is more than three years Wimmera pastures deteriorate badly.

Nebraska Tractor Tests
This report and any related files are made available to the online through the Lester F. Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum as resources allow. Established in 1998, this museum is located on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus. It is and appropriately housed within the walls of the historic 1920 Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory, where the first tractor test was started on March 31st, 1920. Because the pioneer tests became worldwide standards, this location was designated as a Historic Landmark of Agricultural Engineering by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers in 1980, shortly after testing was moved to a …

Internal Fissuring Of Wheat Due To Weathering, Max Milner, J. A. Shellenberger, M. R. Lee, Robert Katz
Internal Fissuring Of Wheat Due To Weathering, Max Milner, J. A. Shellenberger, M. R. Lee, Robert Katz
Robert Katz Publications
Radiographic technique developed at this Station for the determination of internal or hidden insect infestation in stored grain has proved to be useful for the detection of other physical anomalies in grains. Practical applications of this sort include the detection of cracked or broken kernels in rough rice (paddy) prior to milling as well as the extent of internal fracturing of certain grains such as maize due to uneven stresses arising from severe drying conditions. This communication deals with a condition of internal fissuring occurring in wheat due to weathering of the ripened grain in the field.

Soil-Saving Schools
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3
Save the soil for your sons and grandsons," or "Every farmer his own soil conservationist" might well serve as slogans for the recently-inaugurated farmers' schools organised in this State by the Soil Conservation Service. Judging by the enthusiasm shown by pupils at the first two schools, held in August last, this highly practical approach to an important subject seems destined to usher in an entirely new conception of soil conservation work as it affects the individual land-owner.

The Hose U-Tube Level, J P. Fallon
The Hose U-Tube Level, J P. Fallon
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3
With the growing use of soil conservation practices throughout the farming areas, there has been an increasing demand for a simple levelling device that will enable farmers to take their own levels. When they have become familiar with the use of pasture furrows, contour banks and the various other mechanical erosion control measures, farmers with the aid of such an instrument would be able to make an immediate start on an erosion control programme. The instrument would also prove useful for numerous small jobs around the farm when accurate levels are required. Tests have shown the "Hose U-Tube Level" here …

The Separation Of Antimony 125 From Solutions Of Neutron Irradiated Tin Salts, Joseph D. Robinson
The Separation Of Antimony 125 From Solutions Of Neutron Irradiated Tin Salts, Joseph D. Robinson
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
Because of the importance of high specific activities of radioactive species considerable experimental work has been done on the preparation of "carrier-free" tracers. In surveying the literature on the preparation of carrier-free antimony only one method was found. The method reported involves the deuteron bombardment of tin; solution of the target in agua regia; addition of cadmium carrier; precipitation of the cadmium as the sulfide which carries antimony, using oxalate ion to complex the tin; solution to the sulfides of cadmium and antimony in concentrated hydrochloric acid; distillation of tin from cadmium and antimony contained in in perchloric acid with …

Collector-Depressant Equilibria For The Flotation System Potassium Ethyl Xanthate-Potassium Cyanide-Molybdenite, Connell Bolton Roberts
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation involves a study of the collector-depressant equilibria of the flotation system potassium ethyl xanthate-potassium cyanide-molybdenite, based upon mineral-air bubble contact measurements made by a modified captive bubble technique. The Cook theory of single site free acid adsorption is used to interpret the data. The standard free energies of adsorption of ethyl xanthic acid and hydrocyanic acid on molybdenite are calculated.
Polargraphic Measurement Of Reaction Rates Of Diazonium Salts, Gregory W. Daues
Polargraphic Measurement Of Reaction Rates Of Diazonium Salts, Gregory W. Daues
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
If a colorimetric method is used for following the reactions by tracing the increase in dye concentration, only reactions which form soluble dyes can be studied. Gasometric techniques are limited in that a sample must be removed from the reaction vessel and the diazonium salt decomposed by means of a catalyst in order to measure the liberated nitrogen. The latter method of analysis lends itself more readily to studies of the rate of decomposition of diazonium salts under various conditions, such as, the presence of ultra-violet light or exposure to high temperatures.
Thermodynamic Properties Of Water Absorbed On Silica, Conrad V. Hatch
Thermodynamic Properties Of Water Absorbed On Silica, Conrad V. Hatch
Theses and Dissertations
The object of the work presented in this thesis was to obtain quantitative values of the thermodynamic changes in water upon adsorption by silica. Two methods were used. The first was a determination of the differential entropy and heat of adsorption independent of any theory of adsorption. The second method included a new interpretation of the "c" constant of the Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller Theory in which c was expressed in terms of the standard free energy of adsorption. The experimental data gave satisfactory results in determining the differential heat and entropy of adsorption. The results obtained in determining the …
The Kinetics Of The Exchange Between Diiodotyrosine And Iodine, Alfred H. Zeltzmann
The Kinetics Of The Exchange Between Diiodotyrosine And Iodine, Alfred H. Zeltzmann
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
The rate of exchange of iodine with diiodotyrosine in squamous solution was studied as a function of the concentrations of both reactants, of the pH, and of the temperature. The concentration of diiodotyrosine was varied from 0.0000475 to 0.01251 moles per liter and that of the iodine from 0.0000103 to 0.000395 moles per liter. The upper limits of concentration studied were determined by the solubilities of both the iodine and diiodotyrosine. The ratio of concentration of diiodotyrosine to that of iodine was varied from 227 to 0.5. the temperature was varied from 25.1 degrees C to 42.1 degrees C, and …
