An Early Tertiary Stream Channel Between Fish And Pipestone Creeks, Ten Miles West Of Whitehall, Montana, Henry D. Olson Mar 1952

An Early Tertiary Stream Channel Between Fish And Pipestone Creeks, Ten Miles West Of Whitehall, Montana, Henry D. Olson

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

Driving between Butte, and Whitehall, Montana, on highway U.S. 10S, one observes an interesting phenomenon in the lower end of Little Pipestone Creek canyon. One side and the bottom of the canyon is cut inthe hard igneous rocks of the Boulder Batholith, and the other side of the canyon is made of unconsolidated sand, gravel, and cobbles.

Radiography Applied To Grain And Seeds, Max Milner, Milford R. Lee, Robert Katz Feb 1952

Radiography Applied To Grain And Seeds, Max Milner, Milford R. Lee, Robert Katz

Robert Katz Publications

A radiographic method for the detection of internal insect infestation in grain by means of low energy radiation from a cobalt-target beryllium-window X-ray tube is described. The utility of the technic for inspection of wheat, corn, rice, and beans is illustrated with cuts made from original radiographs.

A Study Of The Exchange Between P-Nitrobenzyl Iodide And Iodide Ion In Alcoholic Solutions., E. Lee Purlee

Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs

The realm of this study embraces observation of the exchange of iodine and potassium iodide in absolute methanol, absolute ethanol and absolute n-propanol at temperatures of 30.9 °, 20.3 ° and 0.0 ° centigrade. The primary aims were to observe the effects of the p-nitro group upon the exchange rates in effects of the p-nitro group upon the exchange rates in the various solvents and to compare the results with those obtained for the benzyl iodide-iodide exchange.

A Report On Drosophila Collections In Nebraska, David D. Williams, Dwight D. Miller

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum

Until rather recently little has been known of the Drosophila species of Nebraska. Sturtevant (1921) lists Nebraska as one of seven states from which no Drosophila had been reported. Patterson and Wagner (1943) show that collections of Drosophila pseudoobscura had been made in the vicinities of Scottsbluff and Kearney, but no other Drosophila species are reported from Nebraska in their publication.

On The Ideal Structure Of The Ring Of Entire Functions, Melvin Henriksen Jan 1952

On The Ideal Structure Of The Ring Of Entire Functions, Melvin Henriksen

All HMC Faculty Publications and Research

Let R be the ring of entire functions, and let K be the complex field. The ring R consists of all functions from K to K differentiable everywhere (in the usual sense).

The algebraic structure of the ring of entire functions seems to have been investigated extensively first by O. Helmer [1].

The ideals of R are herein classified as in [2]: an ideal I is called fixed if every function in it vanishes at at least one common point; otherwise, I is called free. The structure of the fixed ideals was determined in [1]. The structure of the …

This serves as a period for limber up, general observation and adjustments. Adjustments that are permissible include valve tappet clearance, breaker ,point gap, spark plug gaps, clutch and others of a similar nature. No new parts or accessories can be installed without having mention made of it in the report. No data' are recorded during this preliminary run except the time that the engine is operated.

Kimberley Soils Need Phosphates, W. M. Nunn Jan 1952

Kimberley Soils Need Phosphates, W. M. Nunn

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3

Research work carried out at the Kimberley Research Station on the Ord River, and on experimental plots throughout the East and West Kimberleys, indicates that the soils of the Kimberleys are quite as deficient in phosphorus as are the soils of our agricultural areas where superphosphate is essential to the growth of most crops.

This may come as a surprise to many people, for there has been a widespread tendency to assume that the Kimberleys soils, especially those of the Ord and Fitzroy valleys, are highly fertile.

The black earths of Queensland's Darling Downs produce most enviable yields of sorghum …

The Determination Of Moisture In Active Dry Yeast, Richard F. Fenske Jan 1952

The Determination Of Moisture In Active Dry Yeast, Richard F. Fenske

Bachelors’ Theses

The writer, having been employed for the past three years, in the control laboratory of one of this country's largest yeast concerns, is very much interested in the determination of moisture in active dry yeast and has there tore made the investigation presented in this paper.

The moisture content is, of critical importance in the production of active dry yeast. A yeast whose moisture content is too low will have poor baking characteristics while a yeast whose moisture content is too high will have poor keeping quality. Inconsistent results have been obtained by using various methods to determine the moisture …

Sunrise And Sunset Times For March-April 1952 Jan 1952

Sunrise And Sunset Times For March-April 1952

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 3

Times of sunrise and sunset for every fifth day, are given for a number of towns throughout the State. Times for a town not on the list may be estimated if its position in relation to one or more of the listed towns is known. The times given for sunrise are those of the first appearance of the top edge of the sun over a true horizon; those for sunset give the time of the sun's disappearance below a true horizon. Situation in a valley would make the sun appear to rise later, and on a hill it would appear …
