The Potash Status Of Utah Soils, Sukhendu Bikas Chaudhuri May 1949

The Potash Status Of Utah Soils, Sukhendu Bikas Chaudhuri

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Potassium is one of the essential plant nutrient elements. It is used by plants in the synthesis and distribution of carbohydrates (25)2 and in the formation of proteins and oils. Potassium also seems to exert many of its effects by influencing enzymatic activity in cells.

Potassium occurs as the monovalent cation on plant cells and undoubtedly exerts important effects upon such phnomona as the permiability of the cytoplasmic membranes and hydration of protoplasma. Plants assimilate potassium either from the soil solution or directly from the exchange complex.

An Analytic Study Of Eight-Grade Pupil Performance As Revealed Through The Stanford Achievement Test In Arithmetic, Dominic J. Brungardt Apr 1949

An Analytic Study Of Eight-Grade Pupil Performance As Revealed Through The Stanford Achievement Test In Arithmetic, Dominic J. Brungardt

Master's Theses

The immediate purpose of the study were: (a) to determine how closely the grade equivalents of two-hundred and sixty pupils follow the normal curve ; (b) to plot the results of the one-step problems on a graph with an analytic explanation of the graph ; (c) to place the results of the two-step problems on a graph with an analytic explanation of the graph; to determine what types of error were most prevalent; to discover apparent causes of error ; (d) to make suggestions helpful to teachers for improving pupil achievement.

Geology Of The Hagan Coal Basin, Earl P. Harrison Mar 1949

Geology Of The Hagan Coal Basin, Earl P. Harrison

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

This study was undertaken with the foremost objective of determining the stratigraphy and structure of the area, and correlating it with known surrounding areas.

The method of study was through geologic mapping in the field. The formational contacts, faults and other features were studied in the field with the aid of aerial photographs. The sections were measured in the field by hand-leveling with a Brunton compass up across the exposures. The lithology of the formations was studied as the sections were measured. The base map was taken from a planimetric map prepared by the Soil Conservation Service from aerial photos. …

The Frost-Moved Rubbles Of Jumbo Dome And Their Significance In The Pleistocene Chronology Of Alaska, Clyde Wahrhaftig Mar 1949

The Frost-Moved Rubbles Of Jumbo Dome And Their Significance In The Pleistocene Chronology Of Alaska, Clyde Wahrhaftig

United States Geological Survey: Staff Publications

Jumbo Dome, a prominent landmark on the north side of the Alaska Range, is a small body of intrusive andesite surrounded by schist and by poorly consolidated sediments of Tertiary age. Frost-moved rubbles, consisting of coarse andesite blocks, almost completely mantlethe dome and have advanced outward from it across a gently sloping terrain for distances as much as 1 ¼ miles. Several different periods of rubble development are recognized, based on the amount of vegetal covering of the deposits, the preservation of their surface forms, and their degree of erosion by fluvial processes. The rubbles are not now moving and …

Paleoecology Of The Brachiopoda, Celia Faith Hendren Jan 1949

Paleoecology Of The Brachiopoda, Celia Faith Hendren

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The immediate concern of the writer in the preparation of this thesis is not so much to give long statistical lists of conclusions (unfortunately this type of material is exceedingly scarce), but to sift the readily available facts in print and prepare a brief history of the work already accomplished on living and fossil Brachipoda. Where possible, there will be a discussion and evaluation of the views presented by different authors.

Synthesis Of Imidazolines, Diazepines, Triazepines And Imidazolidones From A 1, 2-Diamine And 1, 1-Dicarboxylic Esters., Irwin J. Pachter Jan 1949

Synthesis Of Imidazolines, Diazepines, Triazepines And Imidazolidones From A 1, 2-Diamine And 1, 1-Dicarboxylic Esters., Irwin J. Pachter

Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs

In view of the inconclusive character of much of the above mentioned work, a further investigation of the reactions between 1, 2-diamines and dicarboxylic esters of the type CH3CH2OOCXCOOCH2CH3(X=CH2, CHR, NH) seemed warranted. In our present investigation we were guided by three main considerations.

On Matrices With Elements In A Principal Ideal Ring, William Leavitt, George Whaples

Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications

We prove the following theorem.
THEOREM 1. Let D be any commutative principal ideal ring without divisors of zero, and A any matrix with elements in D whose characteristic equation factors into linear factors in D. Then there exists a unimodular matrix T, with elements in D, such that T-1 AT has zeros below the main diagonal.

Management Of Native Deer In Nebraska, John H. Wampole, Edson Fichter Jan 1949

Management Of Native Deer In Nebraska, John H. Wampole, Edson Fichter

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: Publications

Deer are on the increase in Nebraska. Reports of deer seen, of deer killed on highways, and of localized cases of damage to crops by deer have become increasingly frequent during the last ten years. Since Nebraska is not primarily a land of forests nor of great repute as a deer state, the presence of these mammals in more than rare occurrences arouses considerable interest-and creates new problems in wildlife management.

It is the purpose of these notes to answer some of the questions most commonly asked about deer in Nebraska, and to point out certain misunderstandings which have led …
