The invention to be hereinafter described relates to insulators and more particularly to strain insulators for wire antennas.

It has long been common practice to use with antenna wires on airplanes the well known porcelain or ceramic insulator, the wire ends being looped through or about the insulator, and brought back and twisted about the wire to tie, anchor or securely attach or fasten the insulator to the antenna. The produces small wire-end surfaces or other small wire surfaces, where the wires are would or twisted, which under certain atmospheric conditions are favorable to corona discharges. During 1944-1945 the volume of lobsters landed in the spiny lobsters industry decreased to about one half of the 1943 volume and to little more than one third of the amound landed during 1941, which was the year of peak production. Since it was suggested that the cause of this might be overfishing, the University of Miami Marine Laboratory was invited to carry out an investigation in co-operation with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the Florida State Board of Conservation.

A New Sciurid Of Blancan Age From Kansas And Nebraska, Claude W. Hibbard

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum

The collecting of vetebrate fossils from deposits of Blancan age in Kansas, Nebraska, and Texas during the past twelve years has revealed many interesting forms. Some species have been found to have wide geographic distribution. A large sciurid related to the woodchucks has been recognized from both Kansas and Nebraska and is here described as a new genus and species.

The field work was conducted in areas adjacent to White­hall, Montana, as has been the custom for the past several years. Instruction in the proper use of the telescopic and open sight alidades, and the Brunton compass for surveying geologic features was given. Advantages of pacing and speed­ometer mapping were pointed out and used.

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

This report is based on current investigations of the groundwater resources of the Republican and Frenchman River Valleys in Nebraska and includes data gathered to December 31, 1947. These studies vere started late in 1945 as a part of a program of groundwater investigations now in progress in connection with the Missouri River basin development plan. Studies to date have consisted principally of periodic observations of water table fluctuations at selected observation wells, of collection of samples of groundwater for chemical analysis, and of collection of data concerning the municipal water supplies in the valley. The problem of finding the effect of metallic fluorine compounds on oleic acid at elevated temperatures was presented in connection with the thesis of J.J. Wocasek of Marquette University. Doctor Wocasek had used fluorine compounds as catalysts in a.n attempt to find a sub­stitute for tung oil. He used the fluorides as catalysts in the esterification of glycerol with unsaturated acids.
