Test 397: Allis-Chalmers Model Hd-19, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary. All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University. Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …

A Study Of The Prussian Blue Test For Nitrogen, Marilyn M. Erickson Jan 1948

A Study Of The Prussian Blue Test For Nitrogen, Marilyn M. Erickson

Bachelors’ Theses

The problem of obtaining good nitrogen tests on all types of organic compounds interested the author as a result of past experience in the identification of organic compounds.

The practical application of a positive solution to this problem would be an aid to the students of characterization of organic compounds. It is necessary for them to make an elementary analysis in order to determine the class into which the unknown compound belongs. A nitrogen test which will give definite results will eliminate any doubt as to the presence of nitrogen.

Preparation And Physical Properties Of Some Unsymmetrically Substituted Ethanes, William F. Buth Jan 1948

Preparation And Physical Properties Of Some Unsymmetrically Substituted Ethanes, William F. Buth

Bachelors’ Theses

Early in 1947, while investigating the potentialities of various compounds for use as liquid dielectric materials, A method was found for the preparation of unsymmetrical ditolyl ethane by a condensation method using sulfuric acid. This material was thought to have excellent dielectric characteristics so it was prepared and tested. The tests were favorable enough, to warrant further investigation into the field of the unsymmetrical ethanes. Being aware of the physical properties required for a good liquid dielectric; it was proposed to prepare a few of the related compounds for which no data was known to exist and to select those …

Petrology Of The Upper Marietta And Hundred Sandstones In Southeastern Ohio, Wayne Dudley Martin Jan 1948

Petrology Of The Upper Marietta And Hundred Sandstones In Southeastern Ohio, Wayne Dudley Martin

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

A petrographic study was made of two Lower Permian (Dunkard Series) sandstones in southeastern Ohio. The sandstone members with which the investigation was concerned are the Upper Marietta sandstone and the Hundred sandstone. The study was made in order to determine the origin of the sandstones and the practicability of applying geologic methods to the grindstone industry. The results of the study indicate that although some of the constituents of these sandstones were derived from igneous and sedimentary source rocks, a relatively large amount of material was derived from metamorphic rocks. The detritus was transported from the east and deposited …

The Post-Kansan Geologic History Of The Lower Platte Valley Area, Gilbert Carl Lueninghoener Sep 1947

The Post-Kansan Geologic History Of The Lower Platte Valley Area, Gilbert Carl Lueninghoener

University Studies (University of Nebraska): Papers

This investigation is essentially a geomorphological study of the lower Platte River Valley area in eastern Nebraska. The area comprises Saunders, Dodge, Washington, Douglas, Sarpy, and Cass counties. The area defined above is one of the most critically located of any for the study of the post-Kansan history of the lower Platte River Valley. It lies between the older till (Nebraskan and Kansan) borders to the west and the younger till (Illinoian, Iowan, and Wisconsin) borders to the east. Physiographic changes have therefore transpired in a strictly post-Kansan periglacial region. The Kansan till is the youngest in the area. The …

Arithmetical Vocabulary : A Factor In Verbal Problem Solving In Sixth Grade Arithmetic, Ernest A. Hoopes Jul 1947

Arithmetical Vocabulary : A Factor In Verbal Problem Solving In Sixth Grade Arithmetic, Ernest A. Hoopes

Master's Theses

During the writer's experience of teaching in elementary and junior high schools in Kansas he had excellent opportunity through supervision and classroom teaching to note a more-than-ordinary difficulty experienced by most children in the subject of arithmetic. Not only was the dull student baffled by the subject but many times the average and good students were "lost" when certain problems were presented. The exceptional. troublesomeness of this subject led the writer to ponder on the possible cause or causes of incorrect problem solving. One thing was apparent from observation and this was that many children seemed to lack a readiness …

Alkylaminoalkyl Aryoxyacetates, William Kenneth Easley Jul 1947

Alkylaminoalkyl Aryoxyacetates, William Kenneth Easley

Master's Theses

Numerous inInvestigations into the preparation, properties, and effects plant growth substances have been carried out. It has been shown that phenoxyacetic acids, napthoxyacetic acids, esters, anides and salts of phenoxyacetic acids and certain substituted products of these acids are plant growth promoting substances.

It is the purpose ot this work to produce esters of phenoxyacetic and napthoxyacetic acids which contain a secondary amino group and as a result of their ability to form acid salts, such as hydrochlorides, water soluble compounds. These compounds would be readily applicable to plants in sprays.

A Device For Determining The Electrical Characteristics Of Common Industrial Electronic Tubes, Addison Dabney Campbell Jul 1947

A Device For Determining The Electrical Characteristics Of Common Industrial Electronic Tubes, Addison Dabney Campbell

Master's Theses

Many tube checkers designed for radio receiving tubes have been developed . Most of the devices for test ing these tubes do little more than check the emission of the cathode. This is usually accomplished by applying alternating voltage to the plate of the tube undergoing the test and reading the direct-current component of the plate current . In this case, the control grid bias volt age is usually set at a fixed value although sometimes facilities for varying the bias are provided. If the tube is of the multi-grid type, all the grids except the control grid are connected …

Geology And Mines Of The Upper Blackfoot Valley, Montana, Thomas K. Shea Jun 1947

Geology And Mines Of The Upper Blackfoot Valley, Montana, Thomas K. Shea

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970

The purchase and continued operation of the Mike Horse mine in the Heddleston district, by the American Smelting and Refining Company, gives the Blackfoot Valley a renewed promise of a prosperous future in its role as a mining district. In the past, large amounts of placer gold were recovered from the gulches of the area, however, because of the transportation facilities, only the upper portions of a few lodes were exploited by the early miners.
