"The industrial growth of aliphatic chemistry, which has constituted one of the outstanding advances of recent years, has been almost entirely in the field of hydrocarbons and their simpler chlorine and oxygen derivatives… Representative of the aliphatic amines, possibly only the methyl, amyl and ethanol amines may be said to have been commercially available. And yet the field of aliphatic nitrogen chemistry possesses the greatest variety of known aliphatic compounds; there are at least several nitrogen analogs of each oxygen compound, often more stable, more definitely characterized, and more reactive chemically." Nebraska Game and Parks Commission: Staff Research Publications

During the 1942 pheasant hunting season in Nebraska 479 bagged cock pheasants were weighed in western and southwestern counties. Analysis of the weights revealed that the time of the open season apparently has a material effect upon the tonnage of meat harvested for human consumption.

Missourian Triticites Of The Northern Mid-Continent, Benjamin H. Burma

The tendency toward fine discrimination in fusulinid species has made necessary standardization in their study. Theories and practices of fusulinid study are herein discussed in some detail. Four new species of Triticites are described from the Missouri series of the Pennsylvanian system; one species from the Virgil series and two froim the Missouri are redescribed, and the characters of the other five known Missourian species from the northern mid-Continent are shown in graphs, thus bringing together the known Missourian species. Finally consideration is given to the ontogeny and phylogeny of the group.

Recent developments in the field of microchemistry have aroused the necessity of accurate micro-methods for density determinations. Such methods have been developed by various investigators and some of them found their application in re­ search and industry, wherever the saving of material and time was an essential problem.

The purpose of this work is to compare all the methods of micro-density determinations found in literature, check their accuracy and simplicity and find their limitations and advantages.

Preface: It is the purpose of this report to describe the major geologic and geographic conditions of the Blockhouse Quadrangle, Blount County, Tennessee, based upon field studies of the writer. This area, a relatively small portion of the Tennessee Section of the Valley and Ridge Provence, is typical of the East Tennessee Valley and the adjacent Blue Ridge Province. Since field study constituted a large part of the work, much of the written information was taken from field notes. Maps, charts, and photographs are interspersed throughout the text thus aiding in a better understanding of the subject at hand.

Agricultural practices in the Great Plains of North America are now in a period of adjustment from a traditional agriculture initiated by pioneer farmers to a grazing economy based upon potentialities of climate and soil. The attainment of a proper system of land use has been retarded in many localities by the lack of definite information concerning the vegetation and its indicator significance. Bird's foot trefoil is a low growing, bushy legume which is gaining popularity as a forage plant. Its small sweet-pea-like blossoms are bright yellow, bearing a few thing scarlet lines along the standard (the topmost petal). The buds are scarlet-tipped, the scarlet disappearing as the flower matures. For this investigation, the flowers were picked when mature, or nearly so, then were air-dried at 20-30 degrees celsius. The petals were not separated from the calyx.

An Investigation Of The Synthesis And Physical Properties Of Some Halogenated-Dinitromethanes, Charles O. Bostwick

Work has been done on the synthesis and physical properties ot the dichlor- (1), dibrom- (2), and bromchlor- {3) dinitromethanes. However no reports could be found on the synthesis of nitromethanes containing fluorine. In this research, attempts were made to replace the bromine atoms in dibromdinitromethane with fluorine atoms by means or various fluorinating agents available. Some of the physical constants of the dibrom-, bromchlor-, and monobrom- dinitromethanes were determined in order to obtain fairly accurate values for comparison with the products from various reactions. The by-products from the synthesis of dibromd1n1tromethane were also studied.
