"Triassic-Jurassic 'Red Beds' Of The Rocky Mountain Region": A Discussion, John B. Reeside Jr. Jan 1929

"Triassic-Jurassic 'Red Beds' Of The Rocky Mountain Region": A Discussion, John B. Reeside Jr.

United States Geological Survey: Staff Publications

The conclusion drawn by Professor E. B. Branson in a recent paper on the "Red Beds" of the Rocky Mountain region that parts of these beds are marine is considered likely. The conclusion that there exists no basis for subdivision of the beds is not accepted, and a division of the Mesozoic part into Lower Triassic, Upper Triassic, and Jurassic units is advocated. The conclusion that no eolian deposits are present likewise is not accepted, and the interpretation of important parts of the Jurassic unit as eolian is advocated. Disagreement is expressed with much of Professor Branson's correlation table, and …

Reaction Of Metallic Iron And Copper Sulphate In The Flotation Of Sphalerite, Charles Wilson Ambler Jan 1929

Reaction Of Metallic Iron And Copper Sulphate In The Flotation Of Sphalerite, Charles Wilson Ambler

Masters Theses

"Copper sulphate is a common flotation reagent for blende ores. Metallic iron is also present in the mill circuit and a reaction between the iron and the salt would be in accord with well known chemistry. The abundance of metallic iron in a flotation feed may be noted by the examination of any feed. It originates, first of all, in the mine, then the coarse crushing machines contribute their share, and finally the fine grinding medium is a large contributor. If the grinding is with cast iron balls in amount of metallics is greater than when steel is used. In …

Thomas Chrowder Chamberlin's Contribu-Tions To Glacial Geology, William C. Alden Jan 1929

Thomas Chrowder Chamberlin's Contribu-Tions To Glacial Geology, William C. Alden

United States Geological Survey: Staff Publications

So prominent did Thomas Chrowder Chamberlin become in the field of glacial geology that it is a matter of some interest and importance to consider what was the status of the science at the time he turned his attention, as a student and a teacher, to it. So voluminous is the literature of this subject that it is obvious that one cannot in a sketch of this kind give even a general summary of the many books and papers on the subject published in this country, even were it desirable to do so. The intention is to indicate only what …

A Study Of Ball Mills, Robert Lee Kidd Jan 1929

A Study Of Ball Mills, Robert Lee Kidd

Masters Theses

"The study of the ball mill is very complicated, due to the varying conditions existing in the mill. Some of these conditions are: Size of grinding media, size of feed, moisture content, and speed with its effect on the paths of the grinding media. A brief history of fine grinding will first be outlines, after which some of the theories of ball milling will be stated. Then the paths of the grinding media will be given some attention, and a new point of view about the trajectory will be brought out"--Introduction, page 2.

Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT: Case Model CC

TEST A: The manufacturer's representative operates the tractor for a minimum of 12 hours using light to heavy drawbar loads in each gear.

This serves as a period for limber up, general observation and adjustments. Adjustments that are permissible include valve tappet clearance, breaker ,point gap, spark plug gaps, clutch and others of a similar nature. No new parts or accessories can be installed without having mention made of it in the report. No data' are recorded during this preliminary run except the time that the engine is operated.

Test 162: Minneapolis 27-42, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

All tractors tested at the Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory were certified by their manufacturers as being stock model machines, conforming to specifications filed with the application for test. No special or high-test fuels were used except as recommended by the manufacturer as necessary.

All results within the official tractor test report were actually attained in tests and are without correction or allowances for friction, temperature, altitude, etc. The results were initially accomplished with the tractor in charge of skilled operators employed by the University.

Unless otherwise noted, each tractor was apparently in good condition at the end of the testing …
