The Mandibular Tusks Of Amebelodon Fricki, Erwin H. Barbour
The Mandibular Tusks Of Amebelodon Fricki, Erwin H. Barbour
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum
The ponderous mandible of the great shovel-tusked mastodon, Amebelodon fricki, was figured and described before it was practicable to remove the plaster cinches. In the meantime, this rare specimen has lain on its sand table awaiting the time when sections and casts could be made before mounting it permanently. A rare specimen, especially if heavy, unwieldy, and fragile, is rarely dismantled for study after it is mounted and installed in its case. A gelatine cast of the alveoli has been made, and through the assistance of Mr. Murray Jerome Roper, a cast of the left mandibular tusk has just been …

A Study Of The Basal Cherokee In The Rolla Area, Thomas Daniel Murphy
Masters Theses
"The occurrence of outliers of Pennsylvanian age, probably Cherokee, in and about Rolla has long been known. The Bureau of Geology and Mines and the Department of Geology of the School of Mines at Rolla have been greatly interested in the many stratigraphic problems presents. The writer has, therefore, undertaken field and laboratory studies of certain of these problems"--Introduction, page [1].

A Study Of Crime And Criminal Statistics Of Phelps County, State Of Missouri, For The Period 1899-1929, Walter Llyn Bradford
Masters Theses
"It is only within very recent years that the study of Human Society has been undertaken in a really scientific manner. It is true that the social problems have been studied and ideas suggested and discussed for their solution since the very beginning of social organization, for nowhere has there been found a state of society so perfect that all members are completely satisfied with their well-being under it...The study of crime is a part of the science of sociology and must be made according to the same methods as apply to all other kinds of social phenomena"--Introduction, page 1-3.
Elutriation Of Flotation Products, Guenther Walter Frotscher
Elutriation Of Flotation Products, Guenther Walter Frotscher
Masters Theses
"Since the first application of the flotation process in ore dressing practice, engineers have been busy solving the most delicate relations of metal distribution in the minerals to be treated...The desire for more information was the reason for research concerning the mineral distribution in fine flotation material with particular attention to the development of a suitable laboratory method of hydraulic classification or, as it is especially called, elutriation"--Introduction, page 1-4.

Geological Report Of Summer Field Trip 1928, Clarence A. Corry, Marcus Mccanna
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
The object of this trip and report was to familiarize the students of the Montana State School of Mines with methods of taking and mapping surface and undergound geology. All surface geology was mapped by means of plane table and alidade, and undergound work by means of Brunton compass and taps.
The senior class of the Montana State School of MInes under the supervision of Dr. E.S. Perry performed the work, which covered an area in Madison County including South Boulder Creek, near Jefferson Island, the Silver Star Mining District, and the Alameda Mine, near Virginia City.
A Study Of The Electrical Resistance Of Glass As A Function Of The Temperature, William Alfred Yager
A Study Of The Electrical Resistance Of Glass As A Function Of The Temperature, William Alfred Yager
Honors Theses
This work was undertaken with the initial intention of determining the specific resistance of various kinds of glass as a function of the temperature. Various methods of measuring the resistance of glass were tried. In this experimental work, 60 cycle alternating current was used throughout while the conductivity unit shown in Plate 1 proved a very satisfactory and convenient arrangement for comparing the resistance of glass at various temperatures. Time did not permit the measurement of specific resistances as intended.

The Sensitivity Of The Ortho-Tolidine Test For Free Chlorine In Milk Serum, Estelle Downer
The Sensitivity Of The Ortho-Tolidine Test For Free Chlorine In Milk Serum, Estelle Downer
Bachelors’ Theses
In the Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry for November, 1913, J.W. Ellms and S.J. Hauser introduced the ortho-tolidine test for the detection of minute quantities of free chlorine in water. Antecedant to the experimentation of the above men with ortho-tolidine, the starch-iodide test ·was universally used for the· detection of free chlorine. In this test, the chlorine is calculated by liberating iodine from potassium iodide by the available chlorine, and the iodine being titrated with sodium thio sulfate. starch solution is used as the indicator. However, this particular method offers difficulties in the presence of minute quantities of chlorine …

The Devonian Of The Bear River Range, Utah, I. Lavell Cooley
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The geological column in northern Utah has had very little detailed study. Those who have made reports on this section have done so only in a very general way, making no detailed sections of any part of the column, excepting that of the Cambrian made by Walcott.1 Other work has been done by Mansfield2 in southeastern Idaho and a general section of the Devonian made in Green Canyon, Bear River Range, Utah by Kindle.3
Due to the lack of any detailed work of this nature being done in the Bear River Range, suggested the matter of making …

A Means Of Making A Segregate Preparatory To Chemical Analysis Of The Sulphide Minerals In A Low-Grade Dolomitic Ore-Pulp Containing Lead, Zinc, And Copper, Julius Bruce Clemmer
Masters Theses
"The object of this investigation was to find a means of obtaining from a low-grade dolomitic ore pulp a segregate of the sulphide minerals of lead, zinc, and copper preliminary to chemical analysis so that the chemist's error of 0.03 per cent would be divided by the ratio of the segregate to the entire pulp, and hence be reduced. Two methods of obtaining the segregate were investigated: (1) By float-and-sink tests, and (2) by selective dissolution of the dolomite, which is the main gangue constituent of the ore"--Object of Investigation, page 3.

Experimental And Observational Geometry, Albert D. Field
Experimental And Observational Geometry, Albert D. Field
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Geometry has the distinction of being one of the oldest subjects given in the high-school.
Its subject-matter was formulated and organized by the Greeks into a fine system of thought before the time of Christ. Since leaving the hands of the Greeks, geometry has received only a few minor changes, and these largely in recent years.
Heretofore, the study of geometry has been made almost entirely dependent upon memory and reasoning. Geometricians have been slow in adopting the laboratory and observational methods.
This thesis has been written to encourage the student in his work of observing geometrical forms, and in …

Color, any attempt to apply the scientific principles of color vision in the making of a picture must surely fail if it be not granted at the out set that it is only to a limited degree that those principles can apply. Color appreciation is as much a psychical as a physiological, and indeed, it is psychical not only with regard to the objective impression itself, but also with regard to the subjective, the associational mental process. Previous knowledge and training, experience traditions, the association of color impressions with impressions previously received through other senses and stored away as memories, …

The Preparation Of Certain Inorganic And Organic Compounds Which May Be Of Use In Mineralogical Separations, Clarence Jay Black
The Preparation Of Certain Inorganic And Organic Compounds Which May Be Of Use In Mineralogical Separations, Clarence Jay Black
Masters Theses
"In the work with minerals, there has been many mechanical means devised whereby the ores could be separated from the gangue and other material. Among those means which are used to-day, especially in the laboratory tests upon minerals, to quickly determine the value of an ore, heavy liquids have become quite popular. This means of mechanical separation is merely to place finely ground ore containing particles of varying density into a liquid of heavier density than the greater portion of the mineral, which will allow the heavier portions to sink and the lighter to float, which is usually gangue. This …
Heavy Minerals In The Roubidoux And Other Sandstones Of The Ozark Region (Mo.), Cletus Daniel Cordry
Heavy Minerals In The Roubidoux And Other Sandstones Of The Ozark Region (Mo.), Cletus Daniel Cordry
Masters Theses
"In this study an attempt has been made to determine the usefulness of heavy minerals for correlation of formations over a limited area, in the heart of the Ozark uplift in southeast Missouri. The Roubidoux formation, already definitely correlated by other means, has been rather systematically sampled throughout the area, and the heavy minerals determined to ascertain their dependability for correlation purposes. Several samples from other horizons have been studied for comparison with the Roubidoux. Also, within the area studied there are numerous isolated patches of sandstone, the horizons of which have not been definitely determined. Samples from a few …
A Study Of The Baking Process Of Oil Varnishes And Enamels, Roy Herman Kienle
A Study Of The Baking Process Of Oil Varnishes And Enamels, Roy Herman Kienle
Honors Theses
Before any object which has been given a coat of varnish or enamel is ready for use, the varnish film must be converted to the solid state. This is accomplished either by allowing the film to air dry or by baking it. For a considerable number of purposes air drying is satisfactory. However, in some of our largest industrial applications, as for example in portions of the electrical and automobile industries where the most severe requirements are demanded of a varnish film, baking is extensively used. In certain of these manufacturing operations, as in the manufacture of enameled wire, and …
