Studies Concerning The Elimination Of Experimental Error In Comparative Crop Tests, T. A. Kiesselbach Jun 1918

Studies Concerning The Elimination Of Experimental Error In Comparative Crop Tests, T. A. Kiesselbach

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

It is apparent that many sources of error have unconsciously entered into comparative crop yield tests. The very important matter of overcoming variation in soil conditions as a source of experimental error has been quite extensively studied and reported by various investigators during the past decade. The means suggested for reducing such error have been (1) repetition of plats and (2) correction of yields according to check plats planted to a uniform variety or treatment at stated intervals. Both methods have proved of value and a combination of both may often be used advantageously. Some danger always exists of error …

A Theorem On Semi-Continuous Functions, Henry Blumberg Jan 1918

A Theorem On Semi-Continuous Functions, Henry Blumberg

Department of Mathematics: Faculty Publications

Recently G. C. Young and A. Denjoy have communicated theorems—those in Denjoy's memoir are of an especially comprehensive character—dealing, in particular, with point sets where the four derivatives of a given continuous function are identical. It is the purpose of this note to treat an analogous problem that arises when "derivative" is replaced by "saltus." However, instead of confining ourselves to "saltus," we prove a more general theorem that applies essentially to all semi-continuous functions. We preface the proof of this theorem with the following

Drainage Districts Of Southeastern Nebraska, Calvin Turner Moore

Conservation and Survey Division

Throughout certain parts of the United States the importance of drainage is receiving increased recognition each year. The scope of investigations and operations covers many localities that are affected with "springy" lands, swamps, shallow lakes, overflowed lands, and tide lands.

The Cost Of Producing Electricity At The Hamilton, Missouri Light And Power Company, Bernerd William Adams Jan 1916

The Cost Of Producing Electricity At The Hamilton, Missouri Light And Power Company, Bernerd William Adams

Bachelors Theses

"For those seeking information on the cost of producing electricity in steam plants, an unlimited amount of data may be found in the technical journals and text books. This information, however, is obtained from a careful analysis of the daily and hourly records kept by the largest central stations, hence, production costs are available only where the yearly out-put is several million kilowatt-hours. the small isolated stations of from one hundred to two hundred kilowatt capacity have not as a rule, become progressive enough to keep a complete record of operating costs...The test hereinafter reported was conducted from August 3rd. …

Leaching Flue Dust, Edwin Alexander Kayser Jan 1916

Leaching Flue Dust, Edwin Alexander Kayser

Bachelors Theses

"The usual method of treatment has been to charge the "flue dust" into reverberatories and smelt it with the regular charge of calcined ore. There was a consequent cost of handling and a serious loss thru furnace draft and boiling, due to the fine state of division of the material and the presence of sulphates, acid, and moisture.

The object of the paper is to treat this material by some leaching process, which will eliminate the above enumerated losses, and at the same time present the finished product at a lower cost, and with a higher extraction per ton, than …

A Study Of A Certain Filled-Sink Ore Deposit, Azmon Thurman Dunham Jan 1916

A Study Of A Certain Filled-Sink Ore Deposit, Azmon Thurman Dunham

Bachelors Theses

"This mine, which is located about 3-1/2 miles southeast of Sullivan in the extreme northeast corner of Crawford County, Mo., was first known as the Sullivan and Bridoll Mine of the old Hamilton Iron Company. It has been operated discontinuously since about 1870. Until 1904 it was worked solely as an iron mine, but at that time development work for copper was started, and from 1905 to 1909 to mine treated only this metal. It is not known how many pounds of copper the mine has produced, but during one 20 day run in 1904 of which there is record, …

Flotation Applied To Silicate Sludge, Yaro Klepel, Greene Erskine Jan 1916

Flotation Applied To Silicate Sludge, Yaro Klepel, Greene Erskine

Bachelors Theses

"Within the past few years great success has been made of the flotation of sulfids, and to a certain extent of carbonates.

Since sulfids are easily recovered by flotation it seems practicable that silicates could be made to float by first sulfidizing them, and then subjecting them to ordinary flotation treatment.

This problem involves the treatment of a silicate sludge obtained from the Joplin district, the sludge will easily pass through a 250 mesh screen. At the present time this sludge is being sent to the tailings pond.

The experimental work of this thesis was done along the line of …

Some Chemical Problems In Geology, Reginald Scott Dean Jan 1916

Some Chemical Problems In Geology, Reginald Scott Dean

Masters Theses

"This thesis is in the main a compilation of the views held at this institution in regard to the problems discussed as interpreted by the author. No claims for originality are made except in the manner of presentation as the material used has been obtained by conference and class room work with Professor V. H. Gottschalk and Professor G. H. Cox and also to some extent with H. A. Buehler, State Geologist. On the other hand the material is an expression of these ideas as assimilated by the author and hence may in certain cases differ radically from the views …
