Solvable Quantum Mechanical Examples Of Broken Supersymmetry, Asim Gangopadhyaya Dec 1992

Solvable Quantum Mechanical Examples Of Broken Supersymmetry, Asim Gangopadhyaya

Asim Gangopadhyaya

We construct several analytically solvable examples of broken supersymmetry in non-relativistic quantum mechanics. Our examples are motivated from known shape-invariant potentials obeying unbroken supersymmetry and are obtained from them via suitable mapping procedures.

Application Of Square Wave Voltammetry For Electrochemical Detection In Gradient Elution Hplc, John Roush, Mark Anderson Dec 1992

Application Of Square Wave Voltammetry For Electrochemical Detection In Gradient Elution Hplc, John Roush, Mark Anderson

Mark R. Anderson

The utility of square-wave voltammetry with a conventionally sized indicator electrode for use in the detection of gradient elution HPLC applications is demonstrated. A redesigned electrochemical detector cell, based upon a type of wall-jet design, provides more efficient potential control and allows the voltammetric detection. The minimum detectable quantity and linear dynamic range for the new detector design were found to be 13pg and 5 orders of magnitude, respectively, comparable to other electrochemical detectors. In the separation of a test mixture containing hydroquinone. bromohydroquinone, catechol, resorcinol, and phenylhydroquinone baseline resolution of all five components is obtained in 12 minutes using …

Physics Students' Understanding Of Relative Speed: A Phenomenographic Study, Eleanor Walsh, Gloria Dall'alba, John Bowden, Elaine Martin, Ference Marton, Geoff Masters, Paul Ramsden, Andrew Stephanou

Prof Geoff Masters AO

It is important that students of physics develop both quantitative and qualitative understanding of physical concepts and principles. Although accuracy and reliability in solving quantitative problems is necessary, a qualitative understanding is required in applying concepts and principles to new problems and in real-life situations. If students are not able to understand what underlies quantitative problem-solving procedures nor interpret the solution in physical terms, it is questionable whether they have developed an adequate understanding of physics. The research reported here is part of a larger phenomenographic study that is concerned with the assessment of physics students' understanding of some basic …

Robust Reinforcement Learning In Motion Planning, Satinder P. Singh, Andrew G. Barto, Roderic Grupen, Christopher Connolly Dec 1992

Robust Reinforcement Learning In Motion Planning, Satinder P. Singh, Andrew G. Barto, Roderic Grupen, Christopher Connolly

Roderic Grupen

While exploring to find better solutions, an agent performing on-line reinforcement learning (RL) can perform worse than is acceptable. In some cases, exploration might have unsafe, or even catastrophic, results, often modeled in terms of reaching 'failure' states of the agent's environment. This paper presents a method that uses domain knowledge to reduce the number of failures during exploration. This method formulates the set of actions from which the RL agent composes a control policy to ensure that exploration is conducted in a policy space that excludes most of the unacceptable policies. The resulting action set has a more abstract …

Log-Negative Binomial Regression As A Generalized Linear Model, Joseph Hilbe Dec 1992

Log-Negative Binomial Regression As A Generalized Linear Model, Joseph Hilbe

Joseph M Hilbe

The negative binomial (NB) is a member of the exponential family of discrete probability distributions. The nature of the distribution is itself well understood, but its contribution to regression modeling, in particular as a generalized linear model (GLM), has not been appreciated. The mathematical properties of the negative binomial are derived and GLM algorithms are developed for both the canonical and log form. Geometric regression is seen as an instance of the NB. The log forms of both may be effectively used to model types of POisson-overdispersed count data. A GLM-type algorithm is created for a general log-negative binomial regression …

The Elastic Moduli Of Simple Two-Dimensional Isotropic Composites: Computer Simulation And Effective Medium Theory, K. A. Snyder, E. J. Garboczi, Anthony Roy Day Dec 1992

The Elastic Moduli Of Simple Two-Dimensional Isotropic Composites: Computer Simulation And Effective Medium Theory, K. A. Snyder, E. J. Garboczi, Anthony Roy Day

Anthony Roy Day

An algorithm, combining digital-image with spring network techniques, has been developed that enables computation of the elastic moduli of random two-dimensional multiphase composites. This algorithm is used to study the case of isotropic, randomly centered, overlapping circular inclusions in an isotropic elastic matrix. The results of the algorithm for the few-inclusion limit, as well as the case where both phases have the same shear moduli, agree well with the exact results for these two problems. The case where the two phases have the same Poisson’s ratio, but different Young’s moduli, is also studied, and it is shown that the effective …

Γ-Aminobutyric Acid, Catecholamine And Indoleamine Determinations From The Same Brain Region By High-Performance Liquid Chromatography With Electrochemical Detection., T. Champney, W. Hanneman, Michael Nichols Sep 1992

Γ-Aminobutyric Acid, Catecholamine And Indoleamine Determinations From The Same Brain Region By High-Performance Liquid Chromatography With Electrochemical Detection., T. Champney, W. Hanneman, Michael Nichols

Michael A Nichols

A new procedure for the measurement of γ-aminobutyric acid, norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid from the same brain region was developed. In general, two separate high-performance liquid chromatographic runs were performed, one for the γ-aminobutyric acid determination and one for the determination of the monoamines. The electrochemical detection of γ-aminobutyric acid was determined by a new procedure that utilized a small aliquot of the brain sample prepared for monoamine measurement. This assay was linear and parallel between 6 and 200 ng per 20-μl injection with 5-aminovaleric acid utilized as an internal standard. Inter-assay variability averaged 5% throughout the assay …

Obat Turun Peranakan Alami Tanpa Efek Samping Dijamin Sembuh Total, User Id

Rizky Herbal
