Comparison Of Conjoint Analysis, Multiple Regression Models With Person Vectors And Profile Analysis To Assess Important Factors Used To Select Colleges, John Fraas, Isadore Newman Dec 1989

Comparison Of Conjoint Analysis, Multiple Regression Models With Person Vectors And Profile Analysis To Assess Important Factors Used To Select Colleges, John Fraas, Isadore Newman

John W. Fraas

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative effectiveness of the traditional conjoint analysis approach to the multiple regression approach that includes person vectors and profile analysis. It was expected that the more sophisticated models would increase the effectiveness in terms of its shrinkage estimates and the accuracy of its predictability of two holdout groups. The data source consisted of a sample of 100 students who rated eight colleges on five attributes -- quality of education, financial aid, quality of dorm life, student/faculty relations, and social life.

The failure to perform well in the room can murder the certainty of any man. He will begin feeling very low and embarrassed with self. Also, this will hamper his day by day life and exercises. Erectile brokenness is a typical issue with numerous men. More often than not, the issue begins exasperating with age. In any case, right now, there are different factors as well, that add to the issue. These incorporate pressure, over the top smoking, and drinking, poor way of life, and so forth. Alongside these, there are issues like anxiety, dread of shame and low testosterone …

An Analogue In Certain Unique Factorization Domains Of The Euclid-Euler Theorem On Perfect Numbers, Wayne L. Mcdaniel

UMSL Emeritus

We show that there exists a natural extention of the sum of divisors function to all unique factorization domains F having a finite number of units such that if a perfect number in F is defined to be an integer η whose proper divisors sum to η, then the analogue of Euclid's theorem giving the sufficient condition that an integer be an even perfect number holds in F, and an analogue of the Euclid-Euler theorem giving the necessary and sufficient condition that an even integer be perfect holds in those domains having more than two units, i. e., in Q(−1) …

Ginkgo Biloba is believed to help protect against cell damage from free radicals and block the effects of PAF that may cause cardiovascular disorders. Perhaps they also are increasingly influenced by male magazines who now feature these types of topics on a regular basis. One of the best benefits of vegetables is they give us a class of nutrients called phytochemicals. If you don't like writing or you aren't any good at it, hire some one to do the writing for you.

Kaon Transitions And Predictions Of Chiral Symmetry, Jf Donoghue, Br Holstein Nov 1989

Kaon Transitions And Predictions Of Chiral Symmetry, Jf Donoghue, Br Holstein

Barry R Holstein

We describe a set of kaonic electromagnetic and semileptonic weak decay processes which are completely predicted within the framework of chiral symmetry (and, therefore, of low-energy QCD), emphasizing where present problems exist and suggesting future experiments.

Student Perceptions Of The Relative Importance Of Selected Attributes Of An Institution Of Higher Education: A Conjoint Approach, John Fraas, Ronald Paugh Sep 1989

Student Perceptions Of The Relative Importance Of Selected Attributes Of An Institution Of Higher Education: A Conjoint Approach, John Fraas, Ronald Paugh

John W. Fraas

A study investigated the relative importance of certain college attributes to the freshmen of Ashland University, a small, private university in Ohio. Five institutional characteristics were examined: availability and variety of financial aid, dorm life (living conditions and food quality), quality of education (quality of teaching, career relevance of the curriculum, and overall institutional reputation), student-faculty relationships and interaction (availability of faculty to students, faculty promotion of student development, and degree of faculty advice given to students on personal as well as academic matters), and campus social life.

Conformal Transformations In Quantum Mechanics, Alec Schramm, Alfons Stahlhofen Jul 1989

Conformal Transformations In Quantum Mechanics, Alec Schramm, Alfons Stahlhofen

Alec J Schramm

We discuss the occurrence of orientation- or area-preserving diffeomorphism groups in quantum mechanics. We show that the generators of these groups are contained in the generators of the symmetry group of a central potential, as is demonstrated by the example of the Coulomb problem. Our approach is based on the recently introduced concept of a factor space of scattering states.

On The Dimension Of Bivariate Superspline Spaces, Tian-Xiao He

Tian-Xiao He

A bivariate piecewise polynomial function of total degree d on some grid partition △ that has rth order continuous partial derivatives everywhere may have higher-order partial derivatives at the vertices of the grid partition. In finite element considerations and in the construction of vertex splines, it happens that only those functions with continuous partial derivatives of order higher than r at the vertices are needed to give the same full approximation order as the entire space of piecewise polynomials. This is certainly the case for d > 4r + 1. Such piecewise polynomial functions are called supersplines. This …

Progress In The Development Of Hemp Protection Standards For C3i Facilities, George H. Baker, Clinton R. Gordon Apr 1989

Progress In The Development Of Hemp Protection Standards For C3i Facilities, George H. Baker, Clinton R. Gordon

George H Baker

DoD is involved in EMP standards development efforts which culminate 25 years of research. This paper previews an EMP protection standard for fixed, ground-based communication facilities. The standard uses a low-risk hardening approach which depends on an electromagnetic barrier comprised of a conducting shield to prevent harmful transients from reaching communication electronics. The standard is the first of its kind and is being instituted as MIL-STD-188-125.

The Activation Of Carbon-Fluorine Bonds By Oxidative Addition At Tungsten(O): An Electrochemical Study, Andrea Russell, Carolyn Osterberg, Daniel Blackwood, Mark Anderson, Thomas Richmond, Stanley Pons

Mark R. Anderson

We have investigated the anodic oxidation reactions of W(CO)4Et,F5 (I), where Et,F5 is the ligand N,N'-bis(pentafluorophenylidine)ethylenediamine, by cyclic voltammetry and infrared spectroelectrochemistry. The results in both acetonitrile and methylene chloride indicate an ece type mechanism, with the product of the first electron transfer stabilized by the more coordinating solvent.

Pitch Of Complex Tones With Many High‐Order Harmonics, Adrianus J. M. Houtsma, J. Smurzynski Jan 1989

Pitch Of Complex Tones With Many High‐Order Harmonics, Adrianus J. M. Houtsma, J. Smurzynski

Jacek Smurzynski

Pitch identification and pitch discrimination experiments were performed for complex tones with missing fundamentals between 200 and 300 Hz and with many successive harmonics varying from low (below the 10th) to high (above the 25th) harmonic order. Identification performance was found to degrade with increasing harmonic order from an essentially perfect to an asymptotic level that was clearly less than perfect but much better than chance. Just‐noticeable differences in (missing) fundamental frequency were found to increase, with increasing harmonic order, from a fraction of 1 Hz to an asymptotic level of about 5 Hz. Influence of phase was found only …

The Adiabatic Theorem And Berry's Phase, Br Holstein Dec 1988

The Adiabatic Theorem And Berry's Phase, Br Holstein

Barry R Holstein

A study is presented of Berry's observation that when a quantum-mechanical system is transported on a closed adiabatic journey, a topological phase arises in addition to the usual dynamical phase expected from the adiabatic theorem. Consequences are explored in the case of a simple magnetic moment-magnetic field interaction and are shown to lead, among other things, to Dirac's famous relation between electric and magnetic charges.

The Effect Of Solvent Type On The Infrared Spectrum Of Carbon Monoxide Adsorbed At Platinum Electrodes, Mark Anderson, Daniel Blackwood, Thomas Richmond, Stanley Pons Dec 1988

The Effect Of Solvent Type On The Infrared Spectrum Of Carbon Monoxide Adsorbed At Platinum Electrodes, Mark Anderson, Daniel Blackwood, Thomas Richmond, Stanley Pons

Mark R. Anderson

The infrared spectrum of CO adsorbed on a platinum electrode from several solvents was investigated. In N-methylformamide, acetonitrile, and 1,2-dichloroethane, the infrared band attributed to linearly bonded CO had experimental Stark tuning rates of 20 cm−1/V, 22 cm−1/V, and 19 cm−1/V, respectively. For each of these solvents, the potential dependence of the band position was found to be linear for the entire potential range investigated. When methanol was the solvent, the plot of the band position versus potential had three distinctly linear portions, each with a different value for the slope. The behavior is explained in terms of the ability …

The Behavior Of The Infrared Spectrum Of Carbon Monoxide Adsorbed At Platinum Electrodes From Non-Aqueous Solvents, Mark Anderson, Daniel Blackwood, Stanley Pons

Mark R. Anderson

Electrochemical oxidation of vanadium hexacarbonyl anion, V(Co)6 in aprotic solvents results in formation of the V(0) complex which decomposes to form CO in high concentrations next to the electrode surface. As a result, CO is more rapidly adsorbed on the surface than by conventional methods. Surface reflection infrared spectroscopy shows that the potential dependent frequency shift for the infrared active bands due to CO adsorbed on platinum is 19 cm−1/V in 1,2-dichloroethane and 22 cm−1/V in acetonitrile, which are considerably less than the 30 cm−1/V observed in aqueous systems.
