Stream Pollution- Aquatic Macro-Invertebrate Communities As Indicators Of Organic Pollution In Lytle Creek, Arden R. Gaufin, Clarence M. Tarzwell
United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications
Year-round field studies of the com position and ecology of stream communities associated with the purification of organic wastes in streams were initiated on Lytle Creek in October, 1949. This creek, which is located about 45 miles northeast of Cincinnati, Ohio, is a tributary of the Little Miami River. Its drainage basin comprises 27 sq. mi., a third of which is contained within the city limits of Wilmington, Ohio, a city of some 7,412 persons

United States Patent: X-Ray Grain Inspection Apparatus, Robert Katz, Max Milner, Milford R. Lee
Robert Katz Publications
This invention relates to an improved apparatus for use in the X-ray inspection of samples of grain or seeds to determine internal insect infestation and other internal physical anomalies. It particularly relates to a novel film cassette and sample holder which helps to produce a clear radiograph of the sample which is held in an orderly alignment, thereby permitting rapid visual inspection and analysis.

Arretotherium Fricki, A New Miocene Anthracothere From Nebraska, J. R. Macdonald, C. Bertrand Schultz
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum
A new species of middle Miocene (early Hemingfordian) anthraco-there, Arretotherium fricki Macdonald and Schultz is described based on a cranium from the upper Marsland deposits of Nebraska. The holotype suggests that this genus was derived from the Oligocene genus Elomeryx Marsh.
Flight Path Of Least Time, Robert Katz
Flight Path Of Least Time, Robert Katz
Robert Katz Publications
A problem which one might assume to be of considerable practical interest, but certainly a problem to arouse the curiosity of the undergraduate student, is the problem of determining the most economical flight path of an airplane in the presence of known winds. In general one must assume that the wind system between source and destination is a complex one involving circulation about several centers with winds of variable speed and direction. The geodesic between source and destination is clearly not the flight path of least time in the presence of winds, nor is a cursory examination of a weather …

Ostracoda Of The Silurian Decker And Manlius Limestones In New Jersey And Eastern New York, Frank M. Swartz, Frank C. Whitmore Jr.
United States Geological Survey: Staff Publications
Descriptions and illustrations are given for 44 ostracode species of the Decker, Rondout and Manlius limestones of the William Nearpass quarries and Dalton Nearpass farm in northwestern New Jersey, and at Austin's Glen and Trilobite Mountain in New York. One brachiopod variety is proposed. The ostracode species are distributed through 11 families and 23 genera. Thirty-two species and one variety are new, and there are eight new genera. Holotype or syntype specimens of 13 of Weller's ostracode species have been restudied and are refigured and redescribed. Stratigraphic sections are described to provide details of the ostracode occurrences, and zonal potentialities …

Classification Of Oligocene Sediments In Nebraska: A Guide For The Stratigraphic Collecting Of Fossil Mammals, C. Bertrand Schultz, Thompson M. Stout
Classification Of Oligocene Sediments In Nebraska: A Guide For The Stratigraphic Collecting Of Fossil Mammals, C. Bertrand Schultz, Thompson M. Stout
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum
The Chadron and Brule formations constitute the White River Group in Nebraska and adjacent states. The Brule is divided into the Orella and Whitney members. The latter members are referred to the Medial and Late Oligocene (equivalents of the European Stampian and Aquitanian), while-the Chadron is equated with the Early Oligocene (Sannoisian). Each unit in Nebraska is subdivided into three parts (Lower, Middle, and Upper; or A, B, and C for the Chadron and Whitney, and A-B, C, and D for the Orella). Key beds such as fossil soils (paleosols), Purplish White beds, and volcanic ash layers, when considered with …

A Survey Of The Effects Of Changes In PH, Solvent And Salt Concentration Upon The Rate Of The Periodate-Glycol Reaction, Jay E. Taylor, Benadetto Soldano, George A. Hall
Chemistry Department: Faculty Publications
A quantitative study of the effect of the periodate- glycol complex upon the rate of the periodate-glycol reaction was made in an earlier paper. The data for the present paper were taken before those of the previously published paper and, for the most part, before the importance of the periodate-glycol complex had been recognized. It has not been possible therefore to interpret the present data with the degree of thoroughness of the earlier paper. However, certain very interesting conclusions can be made.
