Poly L-Dopa/Poly(Ethylenedioxythiophene) As A Novel Mussel-Inspired Electroactive Binder For Environmentally Friendly Hybrid Supercapacitors, Elham Heydaripour, Mohammad Reza Nateghi, Mohammad Hossein Mosslemin

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

3,4-Dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine and ethylenedioxythiophene were chemically copolymerized via an oxidative process in aqueous solution. The copolymer was used as a novel mussel-inspired electroactive binder in conjunction with a nickel-based metal organic frame work for fabrication of environmentally friendly supercapacitors. The binder, in addition to the sticking effect, contributes to electric charge storing via the redox process of catechol moieties of poly(3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine) and also the formation of a high charge-storing double layer due to the presence of poly(ethylenedioxythiophene). Cyclic voltammetry, charge/discharge measurements, and electrochemical impedance spectrometry showed that the hybrid supercapacitors based on Ni-benzidine MOF with the new electroactive binder exhibit very …

Ultrafiltration (UF) is investigated as a possible alternative to remove organic compounds from aqueous synthetic solution. This paper presents a comprehensive study towards a better understanding of phenolic compound retention mechanisms during UF processes. Thus, removal of phenol and resorcinol was studied using a polyethersulfone ultrafiltration (PES-UF) membrane. The influence of main operating conditions (feed concentration, transmembrane pressure, and pH) on the retention was evaluated. Membrane--solute interactions were found to play an important role during the process, suggesting the adsorption of the target compounds on the PES-UF membrane. The level of adsorption was consequently evaluated by measuring the quantity of …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Separation of morphine and its impurities (related substances specified in relevant European Pharmacopoeia monographs, as well as the other naturally occurring coextracted alkaloids) was obtained within a close retention window on a reverse phase HPLC column, eluted with optimized gradient, consisting of methanol and 5 mM ammonium formate, adjusted to pH 10.2. Systematic optimization of the chromatographic conditions was carried out using design of experiments. According to their mass spectra, known and specified impurities were identified and tentative structures for unknown impurities were proposed. MS analyses were performed in positive ionization mode using heated electrospray ionization. Fragmentation patterns of the …

A Simple And Effective Method For Determination Of The Antithyroid Drug Carbimazole Using Ruthenium Trichloride, Mukul Sharma, Afraim Koty, Abdul Jabbar Al Rajab

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

An accurate, precise, and simple spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of the antithyroid drug carbimazole using ruthenium(III) chloride. This method is based on the formation at room temperature of a stable yellow-colored complex with λ$_{max}$ 370 nm. The method has a Beer's law range of 7.81 to 1.95 $\times $ 10$^{2}$ $\mu $g mL$^{-1}$, molar absorptivity coefficient $\varepsilon =$ 1.519 $\times $ 10$^{3}$ L mol$^{-1}$ cm$^{-1}$, and correlation coefficient of 0.997. The metal:ligand (M:L) ratio of the complex was confirmed by the mole ratio and Job's method of continuous variation, suggesting a 1:2 stoichiometry. The formed carbimazole:Ru(III) complex …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Biodiesel, fatty acid methyl ester produced by the transesterification of vegetable oil with methanol, is a promising alternative to petroleum-based diesel fuel. In the present study, the methanolysis of high free fatty acid (FFA) $Jatropha$ $curcas$ oil in a transesterification reaction using K$_{2}$CO$_{3}$/CaO solid base catalyst was studied. The various reaction parameters in the transesterification reaction were also discussed. The catalyst was characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, temperature programmed desorption of CO$_{2}$, scanning electron microscopy, particle size analyzer, true density, and surface area analyzer. The optimum conversion of jatropha oil was 92% when the transesterification reaction …
