"Through this investigation, complex chalcogenides with the combination of main group metals, transition metals, and rare earth metals have been synthesized using the building block approach and their structure-property relationships are evaluated. The main emphasis of research is on rationally designing new materials for applications in sodium and lithium ion conducting solid electrolytes, cathodes, thermoelectrics, and nonlinear optics. Along with the experimental studies, theoretical calculations are also employed to better understand the physicochemical properties of the synthesized compounds.

When looking at computer modeling of social situations, much of the social science literature does not include ready-to-use statistics or parameters to be included in a social model. I explore studies related to speaking about racism (and other forms of bias), and interventions designed to diminish the occurrence of biased behavior, and use those readings to synthesize plausible parameters for a social computer model.

This study explores the potential of beryllium (Be) as an alternative dopant to magnesium (Mg) for achieving higher hole concentrations in gallium nitride (GaN). Despite Mg prominence as an acceptor in optoelectronic and high-power devices, its deep acceptor level at 0.22 eV above the valence band limits its effectiveness. By examining Be, this research aims to pave the way to overcoming these limitations and extend the findings to aluminum nitride and aluminum gallium nitride (AlGaN) alloy. In this work, the current state of the field of edge-colored graphs is surveyed. Anew concept of unshrinkable edge colorings is introduced which is useful for rainbow subgraph problems and interesting in its own right. This concept is analyzed in some depth. Building upon the linear edge ordering described in a recent work from Gerbner, Methuku, Nagy, Pálvölgyi, Tardos, and Vizer, edge-ordering graphs with the cyclic group is introduced and some results are given on this and a related counting problem.

This study utilizes sUAS-based remote sensing and hydrologic models to analyze and predict locations susceptible to water-based trail erosion. Erosion is frequently cited as the most significant environmental impact of trails and often requires costly design and management considerations. A professionally designed trail totaling 4 km in length was segmented based on presence or absence of water-based erosion for analyses and then flown with sUAS technology. Three Logistic regression (LR) models were generated utilizing several hydrologic terrain models of varying resolutions to determine the effects of spatial resolution on the models’ predictive accuracies. This study examined the perceptions of educators (i.e., math teachers, administrators, and others) for insight into the absence of acceleration as a common pedagogical strategy in mathematics, despite longstanding research supporting the practice for students gifted in math and the interest frequently articulated by policymakers and educators in boosting American K-12 students’ math achievement. Educators from 48 states responded to scale-based and open-ended questions about math acceleration through an online survey where 713 of 818 respondents were teachers, balanced almost evenly among elementary, middle, and high schools, and among urban, suburban, and rural settings. This is an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on the proposed action of constructing a new section of the Horseshoe Bend Trail along the State Route 542 corridor to Mt. Baker in Whatcom County, Washington. The construction of a new section of trail will renew access to the popular trail, which was washed out in 2021. Impacts to elements of the natural and built environment are examined, with emphasis on riparian and water quality impacts. The proposed action, alternative action, and no action are all considered, along with positives, negatives, and no impacts of each.

This environmental impact assessment examines the potential effects of two major fish restoration actions regarding the McGlinn-Goat Island Jetty and the no-action alternative. This Environmental Impact Assessment was conducted on account of the extensive damage to site conditions at Sourdough Mountain. The proposed areas of action would focus on National Park lands, within the parameters of Sourdough, that withstood severe, extensive degradation as a result of a wildfire outbreak in Summer of 2023. Deforestation throughout the Skagit basin, with particular focus surrounding Sourdough Mountain, was investigated in relation to critical assessments and analyses of natural and built environmental factors throughout the mountain.

The consumption of an astounding one million acres resulted from California’s largest single fire to date, the 2021 Dixie Fire. The social and economic losses associated with the fire were immediately apparent, but the effects on wildlife remained unknown. While previous research has suggested mixed or low severity fire may be beneficial to certain wildlife species, the responses to megafires are poorly understood for many carnivores. The fragmentary state of plant fossils and the modular organization of plants make whole-plant reconstructions of fossil species desirable and feasible. Such reconstructions are key for integrating fossil species in systematic studies. The ca. 410 Ma Beartooth Butte Formation of Wyoming (USA) hosts the only rich Early Devonian plant assemblages in western North America, which fills a major gap in the phytogeography of this interval. I construct a whole-plant concept for a new zosterophyll from the Beartooth Butte Formation based on a detailed morphometric study. Prior works in NLG often relied on small-scale or restricted datasets, neglecting the complexities of broader knowledge graphs. The properties of n-color compositions have been studied parallel to those of regular compositions. The conjugate of a composition as defined by MacMahon, however, does not translate well to n-color compositions, and there is currently no established analogous concept. We propose a conjugation rule for cyclic n-color compositions. We also count the number of self-conjugates under these rules and establish a couple of connections between these and regular compositions.

Since the late 1800s, the oldest cities on the Georgia coast have been withdrawing water from the confined Floridan Aquifer System. As the population has grown, a cone of depression has formed extending from Savannah, GA to St. Catherines Island, GA, a barrier island 50 km southeast of Savannah. On St. Catherines Island, the cone of depression has reversed the lateral and horizontal groundwater flow gradients causing saltwater intrusion into the Upper Floridan Aquifer from the Lower Floridan Aquifer through joints, faults, or solution collapse features. Wetlands provide many ecosystem services, and invasive species and their management can alter these services. Plant responses to wetland management actions are typically monitored, but less is known about how soils respond. Phragmites australis, an invasive wetland plant, can alter soil conditions, potentially impacting soil microbial structure and function. We sampled soil communities in Great Lakes coastal wetlands in southeastern Michigan dominated by Phragmites and sites that had been previously invaded by Phragmites then treated with herbicide from 2011-2017, to understand how herbicide management alters soil fungal communities. The purpose of this research was to compare mechanical and tribological properties of a coatingto the same coating with added nano silica. The sample coating for this project was bis-ureasil which was synthesized using 1:1 equivalent ratio of bis (3-trimethoxysilyl-propyl) amine (BTMSPA) (318.0g) and IPDI (52.0g) in 400g of anhydrous THF. One form of control is the addition of defects during nanocrystal formation. Nanoprisms are highly responsive to this form of control through halide concentration. However, the rate at which this control occurs has remained relatively unexplored. The formation kinetics of silver nanoprisms were monitored before, during, and after crystal formation as a function of halide concentration.
