ABOUT THE TEST REPORT AND USE OF THE DATA

The test data contained in this report are a tabulation of the results of a series of tests. Due to the restricted format of these pages, only a limited amount of data and not all of the tractor specifications are included. The full OECD report contains usually about 30 pages of data and specifications. The test data were obtained for each tractor under similar conditions and therefore, provide a means of comparison of performance based on a limited set of reported data.

An Intelligent Editor For Natural Language Processing Of Unrestricted Text, Demetrios George Glinos Jan 1999

An Intelligent Editor For Natural Language Processing Of Unrestricted Text, Demetrios George Glinos

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

The understanding of natural language by computational methods has been a continuing and elusive problem in artificial intelligence. In recent years there has been a resurgence in natural language processing research. Much of this work has been on empirical or corpus-based methods which use a data-driven approach to train systems on large amounts of real language data. Using corpus-based methods, the performance of part-of-speech (POS) taggers, which assign to the individual words of a sentence their appropriate part of speech category (e.g., noun, verb, preposition), now rivals human performance levels, achieving accuracies exceeding 95%. Such taggers have proved useful as …

Applications Of Advanced Software Techniques To Internet And Www Server Development, John A. Brosnana Jan 1999

Applications Of Advanced Software Techniques To Internet And Www Server Development, John A. Brosnana

Theses

We are living in an information age. Never before has so much data been globally available and instantaneously accessible. The main reason for this revolution is the arrival of the Internet; or perhaps more accurately, the World Wide Web(WWW). This thesis discusses the development of Internet and WWW servers and the latest Web technologies including Java, CORBA and Object Databases. It presents the fundamental concepts of server development and aims to study in particular dynamic WWW servers providing multimedia content. From the viewpoint of interoperability, the CORBA multimedia standard is reviewed. The various mechanisms of data storage and retrieval for …

Modular Symmetry Classes Of Tensors, M. Shahryari, M. A. Shahabi Jan 1999

Modular Symmetry Classes Of Tensors, M. Shahryari, M. A. Shahabi

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We introduce the notion of modular symmetry classes of tensors and give a necessary and sufficient condition for a modular symmetry class of tensors associated with the full symmetric group to be non-zero. Then we use modular symmetry classes of tensors to study the polynomial representations of $GL(V)$, where $V$ is a vector space over a field of characterisitic $p$. At the end we introduce a non-degenerate bilinear form on a modular symmetry class. Some problems are also given.

Major element and stable isotope chemistry of tourmaline from two complexly-zoned rare element pegmatites has been studied to gain insights into the processes by which the pegmatites were formed. Two locations in the Oxford Pegmatite Field of western Maine, U.S.A., were chosen for this study: Black Mountain, an isolated body located in sillimanite zone, highly sulfidic metapelites and quartzite; and Mount Mica, which is bounded by schists and pegmatite and aplitic granite bodies commonly having gradational contacts with each other. At each locality, tourmaline was sampled from the surrounding country rocks into the contact and wall zones through to the …

Detecting An Association Between Gamma Ray And Gravitational Wave Bursts, Lee Samuel Finn, Soumya Mohanty, Joseph D. Romano Jan 1999

Detecting An Association Between Gamma Ray And Gravitational Wave Bursts, Lee Samuel Finn, Soumya Mohanty, Joseph D. Romano

Physics and Astronomy Faculty Publications and Presentations

If γ-ray bursts (GRBs) are accompanied by gravitational wave bursts (GWBs) the correlated output of two gravitational wave detectors evaluated in the moments just prior to a GRB will differ from that evaluated at other times. We can test for this difference without prior knowledge of either the GWB wave form or the detector noise spectrum. With a model for the GRB source population and GWB spectrum we can put a limit on the in-band rms GWB signal amplitude. Laser-Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory I detector observations coincident with 1000 GRB observations could lead us to exclude with 95% confidence associated …

Limitation Of Algal Growth By Iron Deficiency In The Australian Subantarctic Region, Peter N. Sedwick, Giacomo R. Ditullio, David A. Hutchins, Philip W. Boyd, F. Brian Griffiths, A. Clive Crossley, Thomas W. Trull, Bernard Queguiner Jan 1999

Limitation Of Algal Growth By Iron Deficiency In The Australian Subantarctic Region, Peter N. Sedwick, Giacomo R. Ditullio, David A. Hutchins, Philip W. Boyd, F. Brian Griffiths, A. Clive Crossley, Thomas W. Trull, Bernard Queguiner

OES Faculty Publications

In March 1998 we measured iron in the upper water column and conducted iron- and nutrient-enrichment bottle-incubation experiments in the open-ocean Subantarctic region southwest of Tasmania, Australia. In the Subtropical Convergence Zone (∼42°S, 142°E), silicic acid concentrations were low (< 1.5μM) in the upper water column, whereas pronounced vertical gradients in dissolved iron concentration (0.12-0.84 nM) were observed., presumably reflecting the interleaving of Subtropical and Subantarctic waters, and mineral aerosol input. Results of a bottle-incubation experiment performed at this location indicate that phytoplankton growth rates were limited by iron deficiency within the iron-poor layer of the euphotic zone. In the Subantarctic water mass (∼46.8°S, 142°E), low concentrations of dissolved iron (0.05-0.11nM) and silicic acid (< 1μM) were measured throughout the upper water column, and our experimental results indicate that algal growth was limited by iron deficiency. These observations suggest that availability of dissolved iron is a primary factor limiting phytoplankton growth over much of the Subantarctic Southern Ocean in the late summer and autumn.

Trans-Resveratrol Inhibits Calcium Influx In Thrombin-Stimulated Human Platelets, Yuliya Dobrydneva, Roy L. Williams, Peter F. Blackmore Jan 1999

Trans-Resveratrol Inhibits Calcium Influx In Thrombin-Stimulated Human Platelets, Yuliya Dobrydneva, Roy L. Williams, Peter F. Blackmore

Chemistry & Biochemistry Faculty Publications

1 The phytoestrogenic compound trans-resveratrol (trans-3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene) is found in appreciable quantities in grape skins and wine. It has been shown that both products rich in trans-resveratrol and pure trans-resveratrol inhibit platelet aggregation both in vivo and in vitro. However the mechanism of this action still remains unknown.

2 An essential component of the aggregation process in platelets is an increase in intracellular free Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i). Ca2+ must enter the cell from the external media through specific and tightly regulated Ca2+ channels in the plasma membrane. The objective …

Use Of Excel To Obtain Voltammetric Information On Microelectrodes, Enda Howard, John Cassidy Jan 1999

Use Of Excel To Obtain Voltammetric Information On Microelectrodes, Enda Howard, John Cassidy

Articles

The use of curve fitting for the analysis and interpretation of voltammetric data obtained while working with micro electrodes is discussed as a useful exercise for introducing students to the principle of problem solving using least-squares curve-fitting techniques. The advantages associated with this approach to data processing over the approach where the limiting current (i L) alone is used are discussed and its limitations are highlighted. This technique was applied to the determination of unknown concentrations of ferrocyanide and the most satisfactory recovery of concentrations was found when both the va1ues of the formal potential (EO') and concentration ( C) …

Note On The Voltammetry Of Ferrocene Carboxylate In Aqueous Solution, John Cassidy, John O'Gorman, M. Ronane, Enda Howard Jan 1999

Note On The Voltammetry Of Ferrocene Carboxylate In Aqueous Solution, John Cassidy, John O'Gorman, M. Ronane, Enda Howard

Articles

Cyclic voltammetry of ferrocene dicarboxylate in aqueous solutions at high pH, in the presence of oxygen, showed evidence of an EC' mechanism where the oxidised form of ferrocene dicarboxylate reacts with H02- , which had been produced at a lower potential. However, an analogous experiment with ferrocene carboxylate yielded a cyclic voltammogram with a post peak: following the anodic peak: for ferrocene carboxylate. The reason for the post peak: is not clear but may be due to a delay in the reaction between the oxidised form of ferrocene carboxylate and H02-.

Left Adjoint Of Pullback Cat^1 -Groups, Murat Alp Jan 1999

Left Adjoint Of Pullback Cat^1 -Groups, Murat Alp

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In [1] we define the pullback Cat^1-groups and showed that the category of pullback Cat^1-groups is equivalent to the category of pullback crossed modules. In this paper we proved that the pullback Cat^1-group has a left adjoint which is the induced Cat^1-group. We also give the left adjoint construction.

Normal Subgroups And Elements Of H^{'}(\Lambda_Q), İsmai̇l Naci̇ Cangül Jan 1999

Normal Subgroups And Elements Of H^{'}(\Lambda_Q), İsmai̇l Naci̇ Cangül

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this study, we consider the normal subgroups of H^{'}(\lambda_q), where H(\lambda_q) denotes the Hecke groups. After recalling some results from [2], particularly on the group structure and on the relations with the power subgroups of H(\lambda_q), the even subgroup H_e(\lambda_q) of H(\lambda_q) is discussed. It is shown that H^{'}(\lambda_q) is a normal subgroup of H_e(\lambda_q) with index q. For this reason each subgroup of H^{'}(\lambda_q) consists of only even elements. H^{''}(\lambda_q) is also considered and it is concluded that it is the normal subgroup of H^{'}(\lambda_q) generated by all commutators of the elements of H^{'}(\lambda_q). Using the Kurosh subgroup …

On The Boundedness Of Integral Operators, İsmai̇l Eki̇nci̇oğlu, Isroil A. Ikromov

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, we consider integal operators defined by kernel functions. It is well known the boundedness of such kind of operators as Shur Lemma type statements. But, the norm of operators was estimated by two integrals of kernel function. We obtain estimation of operators norm by one integral of kernel function.

Some Asymptotic Estimates For The Instability Intervals Of Hill's Equation, Haskiz Coşkun Jan 1999

Some Asymptotic Estimates For The Instability Intervals Of Hill's Equation, Haskiz Coşkun

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this study, some asymptotic estimates for the length of the instability intervals of Hill's equation, y''(t)+(\lambda -q(t))y(t)=0, are derived by means of an auxiliary eigenvalue problem under various assumptions on the Fourier coefficients of the potential q.
