Shift Estimation Method Based Fringe Pattern Profilometry And Performance Comparison, Y. Hu, Jiangtao Xi, Enbang Li, Joe F. Chicharo, Zongkai Yang
Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)
In this paper, we present and study two approaches to fringe pattern profilometry (FPP) technique. Based on generalized analysis model for fringe pattern profilometry (FPP), Inverse Function based Shift Estimation (IFSE) and Gradient-based Shift Estimation (GSE) are proposed to calculate the shift between the projected and deformed fringe patterns. Further, computer simulations are utilized to compare the performance between these two methods. Meanwhile, we also compare these two algorithms with Phase Shift profilometry (PSP). It can be seen that both of these two shift estimation algorithms can significantly improve the measurement accuracy when the fringe patterns are nonlinearly distorted.

An Improved Dynamic Model For Optical Feedback Self-Mixing Interferometry-Based Measurement And Instrumentation, Jiangtao Xi, Yuanguang Yu, Enbang Li, Joe F. Chicharo
Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)
This paper presents a new model that describes the behaviour of optical feedback self-mixing interferometry (OFSMI). Compared to the existing model, the proposed one does not suffer from the multiple value ambiguity problems. The proposed model is a dynamic one that gives a unique relationship between the external target moving law and the self-mixing signal (SMS) waveform (SMS) when other parameters are given. A computer simulation tool for OFSMI has been implemented to generate SMS waveforms and its effectiveness has been verified by experimental data.

An Investigation Of Temporal Modeling In Blind Signal Separation, Daniel Smith, Jason Lukasiak, Ian Burnett
Faculty of Informatics - Papers (Archive)
This paper investigates the performance of blind signal separation (BSS) algorithms that exploit the temporal predictability of speech. Specifically, the investigation considers how the separation performance of two BSS algorithms will be affected when the length of the AR process (used in the algorithms to model speech) is varied. The investigation concludes that the length of the AR process (prediction order) has a significant impact on separation performance. In particular, the separation performance of both algorithms is degraded, if the AR model’s prediction order, over fits, or under fits, the temporal structure of the speech. It is revealed that a …

Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectra Of Cytosine Adsorbed On A Roughened Gold Electrode, Yuan-Fei Wu, Jian-Feng Li, De-Yin Wu, Bin Ren, Zhong-Qun Tian
Journal of Electrochemistry
Cytosine adsorbed on a roughened gold electrode has been investigated by using electrochemical cyclic voltammetry and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The results indicate that cytosine was adsorbed on the Au electrode in a perpendicular orientation via the N3 position. As the maximum enhancement of ring breathing mode appears at negative potentials compared with other modes, both the electromagnetic enhancement and the charge transfer mechanism were considered to contribute to the SERS intensity. The binding interaction between cytosine and the gold electrode was weakened when the potential was negatively moved. The result also indicates that the SERS technique can be used …

A Conjugate Dissolution / Deposition Behavior In Thin Layer Electrodeposition, Sun Bin
Journal of Electrochemistry
During the electrodeposition of lead, the dendrite deposit segregates from the cathode due to the disturbance of hydrogen gas. The segregated deposit could move toward the anode spontaneously rather than keep stationary. The studies show that this novel phenomenon was caused by the conjugate electrodissolution and electrodeposition reactions taking place at two ends of the isolated segment of the deposit. The mechanism inducing this phenomenon is suggested.

Journal of Electrochemistry
The electrochemical reduction characteristics and transition steps of nitrobenzene aqueous solution at the copper electrode, as well as its reduction mechanism were extensively investigatedby using the techniques such as cyclic voltammetry(CV) and linear scan voltammetry(LSV). The results showed that the reduction peaks of nitrobenzene at the copper electrode were located at 0.58 V and 1.32 V or so (vs. SCE), both acidity and alkalinesolutionsfavoredthe reduction of nitrobenzene. The adsorption of compounds followed by the reduction process, which is controlled by the mass transfer step at higher nitrobenzene concentration. In addition, the higher anaerobic degree led to faster reduction rate.

Nafion Emulsion Method For Fuel Cell Membrane-Electrode-Assembly Preparation, Chao-Yang Xia, Lin Zhuang
Journal of Electrochemistry
A Nafion emulsion method for fuel cell membrane-electrode-assembly (MEA) preparation was reported for the first time in this paper. 5 %(by mass) Nafion alcohol solution and non-polar solvent (e.g., cyclohexane) were ultrasonicallymixed to produce Nafion emulsion. The catalyst ink prepared using the thus-obtained Nafion emulsion can be directly cast onto Nafion membrane to make MEA. This method is simple in operation, and effectively preventsthe Nafion membrane swelling, hence is suitable for large-scale application. The MEA thus-prepared showed comparable catalyst efficiencywith respect to the popular transfer-method, and the preliminary performance in room-temperature H_(2)/O_(2 )fuel cell test was satisfying.

A Preliminary Study Of Influence Of The Chain Length Of Alkanethiols On The Electrochemical Behavior Of Redox Self-Assembled Multilayer Thin Films, Yun-Feng Wang, Zhan-Jun Zhang
Journal of Electrochemistry
Alkanethiols and ferrocene derivates were used to construct redox self-assembled double-or triplex-layer thin films, which acted as a model of redox self-assembled multilayer thin films (SAMTFs) to study the in-fluence of alkanethiols chain length on the electrochemical behavior of the SAMTFs. The rate of electron transferreaction decreased exponentially with the distance between the Fc groups and the underlying electrodes. The in-fluence of chain length on the electrochemical behaviors of the SAMTFs was inconsistent under different situa-tions. On the experimental situation of this work, when electroactive groups were closer to the electrodes,SAMTFs by longer chains of alkanethiols displayed stronger electrochemical responses, …

Electrochemical Behavior And Determination Of Curcumin, Ping Wu, Wei Chen, Ya-Feng Zhang, Xin-Hua Lin
Journal of Electrochemistry
In 0.1mol/L phosphate buffer solution (pH 3.0), the voltammetry behaviors of curcumin at a glassy carbon electrode have been studied. One pair of current peaks of the voltammogram may be attributed to a reversible one-electron transfer of curcumin molecules at the glassy carbon electrode.A new method, the differential pulse voltammetry, for curcumin determination is described. The adsorptive potential of curcumin is (+0.8) V(vs. SCE),while its peak potential of curcumin is +0.386V(vs. SCE).The peak current is proportional to the concentration of curcumin over the rage of 1.0×10~(-8)mol/L ~2.5×10~(-7)mol/L.A detection limit of 4.0×10~(-9)mol/Lof curcumin can be estimated. The method is simple, rapid, sensitive and …

Tcp Attack Analysis On Packets Captured Using Symantec Decoy Server, Ali Bakhtiar Nizamani, Bahari Belaton
International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies
This paper discusses results obtained from Symantec Decoy Server (previously known as Mantrap) with an introduction to honeypots. Lance Spitzner of the Honeynet Project introduced the concept of honeypots. A honeypot is in essence a decoy server, which has no real or strategic value and is only setup to attract crackers towards it. The idea is to trap the crackers and learn cracking techniques from them. Rapid increase in unauthorized intrusions over the Internet provides a great motivation to explore honeypots at a greater depth. We will provide analysis on TCP based denial of service attack carried out on Symantec …

A New Approach For Anti-Aliasing Raster Data In Air Borne Imagery, Fahim Arif, Muhammad Akbar
International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies
Air borne sensed data is in the form of raster data. Aliasing is always present in a sampled image causing artifact error. To reduce possible aliasing effects, it is a good idea to blur an image slightly before applying a resampling method on it. This paper presents a technique for anti-aliasing remotely sensed images. The technique uses Gaussian low pass filter (GLPF) for generation of slight blur. Then resampling of raster data is performed with the help of bilinear interpolation. Algorithm is developed in MATLAB using some inbuilt functions.

A Performance Comparison Of Data Encryption Algorithms, Aamer Nadeem, Dr. M. Younus Javed
International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies
The principal goal guiding the design of any encryption algorithm must be security against unauthorized attacks. However, for all practical applications, performance and the cost of implementation are also important concerns. A data encryption algorithm would not be of much use if it is secure enough but slow in performance because it is a common practice to embed encryption algorithms in other applications such as e-commerce, banking, and online transaction processing applications. Embedding of encryption algorithms in other applications also precludes a hardware implementation, and is thus a major cause of degraded overall performance of the system. In this paper, …
