This enables the creation of situational applications of composed services exposing user interfaces, i.e., mashups. We have used positron annihilation spectroscopy to study the introduction and recovery of point defects introduced by 0.45 and 2 MeV electron irradiation at room temperature in n-type GaN. Isochronal annealings were performed up to 1220 K. We observe vacancy defects with specific lifetime of τV=190±15 ps that we tentatively identify as N vacancies or related complexes in the neutral charge state in the samples irradiated with 0.45 MeV electrons. The N vacancies are produced at a rate ΣN0.45≃0.25 cm−1. The irradiation with 2 MeV electrons produces negatively charged Ga vacancies and negative …

This paper describes the concept of mutual knowledge and its potential impact on virtual team performance. Based on an analysis of extant literature, we argue that there is a gap in our understanding of what is known about mutual knowledge as it impacts team dynamics and virtual team performance. Supporting literature, anecdotes, and case studies are used to discuss the importance of mutual knowledge for virtual team performance and the research issues that need to be addressed in the future.

In this thesis, we propose a new design of privacy and session control for improving a collaborative molecular modeling CVR system AMMP-VIS [1]. The design mainly addresses the issue of competing user interests and privacy protection coordination. Based on our investigation of AMMP-VIS, we propose a four-level access control structure for collaborative sessions and dynamic action priority specification for manipulations on shared molecular models. Our design allows a single user to participate in multiple simultaneous sessions. Moreover, a messaging system with text chatting and system broadcasting functionality is included. Ultrasound Doppler data are routinely used in the clinical diagnosis of degree of stenosis in the renal artery. In this study the effect of fat layers on maximum velocity estimations was determined using both a Doppler string and flow phantom. Using an ATL HDI 3000 with two broadband transducers (C4-2 and L12-5), the maximum velocity was estimated for a range of velocities with and without the presence of a fat layer. The results indicate that the introduction of a fat layer has a significant effect on the overestimation of the maximum velocity when the string phantom is used. However, in …

Limited by the spatial resolution of optical microscopy, direct detection or counting of single components in biological complexes or nanoparticles is challenging, especially for RNA, which is conformationally versatile and structurally flexible. We report here the assembly of a customized single-molecule dual-viewing total internal reflection fluorescence imaging system for direct counting of RNA building blocks. The RNA molecules were labeled with a single fluorophore by in vitro transcription in the presence of a fluorescent AMP. Fisheries research reports

A preliminary assessment of stock enhancement of Haliotis laevigata (Greenlip abalone) in Western Australia was undertaken with the release of 6,000 abalone near Augusta in 2004. The objective of the project was to obtain quantitative data on the likelihood of enhancement, as an additional management tool to TACs and size-limits, being successful in natural habitats in Western Australia. Baseline surveys coupled with an assessment of growth and survival of released 1+ and 2 + animals were undertaken at 12 sites within Flinders Bay, Augusta. Overall survival was 19% for 1+ age abalone and 27% for 2+ animals after 9 months. …

The Bes F0(1810): A New Glueball Candidate, Pedro Bicudo, S.R. Cotanch, Felipe J. Llanes-Estrada, David G. Robertson

We analyze the f0(1810) state recently observed by the BES collaboration via radiative J/ψ decay to a resonant φω spectrum and confront it with DM2 data and glueball theory. The DM2 group only measured ωω decays and reported a pseudoscalar but no scalar resonance in this mass region. A rescattering mechanism from the open flavored KK̄ decay channel is considered to explain why the resonance is only seen in the flavor asymmetric ωφ branch along with a discussion of positive C-parity charmonia decays to strengthen the case for preferred open flavor glueball decays. Because Western Kentucky University does not maintain a back-up system for its departments, the Computer Science Department has implemented its own. Using Bacula software on a Unix server, files from faculty desktop computers and servers are backed up to a tape drive on a daily basis. The server is protected from outside threats with a carefully configured firewall script. This paper explains how both the firewall and the back-up software were implemented and how successful that implementation has been.

AFRL/RHDO has developed a configurable, laser-tissue interaction model that includes components from various areas of Biophysics. The model predicts heat transfer in biological tissue, in either one-dimension or two-dimensional cylindrical coordinates, and is coupled to an Arrhenius damage model. A simulation can be configured as a single run, or a damage-threshold search. Multiple models for describing the laser-tissue interaction are available, including linear absorption (1D, 2D), Monte Carlo scattering (2D) and Beam Propagation Methods using Finite Difference approximations or Hankel Transform methods (2D).

The difficulty for organizations arises because neither complexity nor its impacts on performance are well understood (Fisher & Ittner, 1999b). The mechanisms through which it affects cost, quality, delivery, and flexibility need to be explained (Ramdas, 2003). However, this cannot happen until complexity can be explained theoretically. But, to build theory there must first be a common understanding about the construct of interest (Wacker, 2004). Only then can researchers operationalize it and search for meaningful relationships. The specific lattice dynamic properties of antimony in the unfilled CoSb3 and filled EuFe4Sb12 skutterudites have been determined by nuclear inelastic scattering at the 121Sb nuclear resonance energy of 37.1298(2) keV with a 4.5 meV high-resolution backscattering sapphire monochromator. The Sb partial vibrational density of states (DOS) shows a maximum centered at 17 and 16 meV in CoSb3 and EuFe4Sb12, respectively. The difference between the Sb DOSs of CoSb3 and EuFe4Sb12 reveals that upon filling there is a transfer of 10% of the vibrational states toward …

In this work, ferrocene- and ferrocenium-containing salts were employed to modify montmorillonite. X-ray measurements show an increase in the interlayer spacing upon clay modification, which means that the larger and more organophilic cations were inserted into the gallery space of montmorillonite. Attempts to prepare nanocomposites of polystyrene and ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers lead to immiscible systems; the morphology of these systems was elucidated with TEM, XRD and cone calorimetry. The thermal stability of the composites is greater than that of the virgin polymer.

This paper describes total gaseous mercury (TGM) concentrations measured in Reno, Nevada from 2002 to 2005. The 3-year mean and median air Hg concentrations were 2.3 and 2.1 ng m−3, respectively. Mercury concentrations exhibited seasonality, with the highest concentrations in winter, and the lowest in summer and fall. A well-defined diel pattern in TGM concentration was observed, with maximum daily concentrations observed in the morning and minimum in the afternoon. A gradual increase of TGM concentration was observed in the evening and over night. The early morning increase in TGM was likely due to activation of local surface emission sources …

[1] We use radar measurements from the Jicamarca Radio Observatory, magnetometer observations from the Pacific sector and ionosonde data from Brazil to study equatorial ionospheric electric fields during the November 2004 geomagnetic storm. Our data show very large eastward and westward daytime electrojet current perturbations with lifetimes of about an hour (indicative of undershielding and overshielding prompt penetration electric fields) in the Pacific equatorial region during the November 7 main phase of the storm, when the southward IMF, the solar wind and reconnection electric fields, and the polar cap potential drops had very large and nearly steady values.
