Compressed Sensing With Coherent And Redundant Dictionaries, Emmanuel J. Candès, Yonina C. Eldar, Deanna Needell, Paige Randall

CMC Faculty Publications and Research

This article presents novel results concerning the recovery of signals from undersampled data in the common situation where such signals are not sparse in an orthonormal basis or incoherent dictionary, but in a truly redundant dictionary. This work thus bridges a gap in the literature and shows not only that compressed sensing is viable in this context, but also that accurate recovery is possible via an ℓ1-analysis optimization problem. We introduce a condition on the measurement/sensing matrix, which is a natural generalization of the now well-known restricted isometry property, and which guarantees accurate recovery of signals that are …

The Lick–Carnegie Exoplanet Survey: A 3.1 M⊕ Planet In The Habitable Zone Of The Nearby M3v Star Gliese 581, Steve Vogt, R. Paul Butler, Eugenio J. Rivera, Nader Haghighipour, Gregory W. Henry, Michael H. Williamson

Information Systems and Engineering Management Research Publications

We present 11 years of HIRES precision radial velocities (RVs) of the nearby M3V star Gliese 581, combining our data set of 122 precision RVs with an existing published 4.3-year set of 119 HARPS precision RVs. The velocity set now indicates six companions in Keplerian motion around this star. Differential photometry indicates a likely stellar rotation period of ∼94 days and reveals no significant periodic variability at any of the Keplerian periods, supporting planetary orbital motion as the cause of all the RV variations. The combined data set strongly confirms the 5.37-day, 12.9-day, 3.15-day, and 67-day planets previously announced by …

The First Ten Months Of Investigation Of Gravity Waves And Temperature Variability Over The Andes, Jonathan Pugmire, Neal Criddle, Michael J. Taylor, P. D. Pautet, Yucheng Zhao

Graduate Student Posters

The Andes region is an excellent natural laboratory for investigating gravity wave influences on the Upper Mesospheric and Lower Thermospheric (MLT) dynamics. The instrument suite that comprised the very successful Maui-MALT program was recently re-located to a new Andes Lidar Observatory (ALO) located at Cerro Pachon, Chile to obtain in-depth seasonal measurements of MLT dynamics over the Andes mountains. As part of the instrument set the Utah State University CEDAR Mesospheric Temperature Mapper (MTM) has operated continuously since August 2009 measuring the near infrared OH(6,2) band and the O2(0,1) Atmospheric band intensity and temperature perturbations. This poster focuses on an …

Quantum Equivalent Magnetic Fields That Are Not Classically Equivalent, Carolyn Gordon, William Kirwin, Dorothee Schueth, David Webb

Dartmouth Scholarship

We construct pairs of compact Kähler-Einstein manifolds (Mi,gi,ωi)(i=1,2) of complex dimension n with the following properties: The canonical line bundle Li=⋀nT∗Mi has Chern class [ωi/2π], and for each positive integer k the tensor powers L⊗k1 and L⊗k2 are isospectral for the bundle Laplacian associated with the canonical connection, while M1 and M2 – and hence T∗M1 and T∗M2 – are not homeomorphic. In the context of geometric quantization, we interpret these examples as magnetic fields which are quantum equivalent but not classically equivalent. Moreover, we construct many …
