Some Properties Of Extending Hypermodules, C11-Hypermodules And T-Extending Hyperrings, Chokchai Wongyai

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

In this research, extending hypermodules, C11-hypermodules and t-extending hyperrings are defined and studied. We characterize extending hypermodules, C11-hypermodules and t-extending hyperrings in many ways under some conditions of hypermodules and hyperrings. Moreover, some properties concerning subhypermodules of extending hypermodules and C11-hypermodules are investigated. Especially, we study C11-hypermodules in the case that they can be decomposed as a direct sum of two subhypermodules.

Relationships Among Mineralogy, Geochemistry, And Oil And Gas Production In The Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, Hayley Roxana Beitel

Masters Theses

"The Tuscaloosa Marine Shale (TMS) is an unconventional shale reservoir located in southeast Louisiana and southwest Mississippi. Limited mineralogical and geochemical data for the TMS have been published. The data that do exist indicate that the formation is heterogeneous. Consequently, previous investigators and oil and gas companies have not managed to effectively link mineralogical and chemical changes to oil and gas production in the TMS. These linkages are critical to establish for future exploration efforts. In this study, we attempt to establish these relationships by gathering all existing mineralogical and chemical data in the TMS, including newly acquired data from …

Predator Scent And Presence Alter Mammal Assemblages In The Missouri Ozarks, Usa, Cara Jean Yocom-Russell Jan 2021

Predator Scent And Presence Alter Mammal Assemblages In The Missouri Ozarks, Usa, Cara Jean Yocom-Russell

Masters Theses

"Species that are vulnerable to predation exhibit a host of behavioral and physiological adaptations toward the avoidance of this outcome: Heightened awareness of surroundings through visual, olfactory, and auditory senses are common ways in which these species avoid detection by predators. While links between direct predator-prey relationships are well established, less is known about how predators can shape overall community structure or the populations of secondary or less frequently consumed prey items. As humans expand into rural areas, the frequency of wildlife conflicts rises. In response, humans look to prevent these events with a variety of methods. One such method …

Prediction Intervals For Fractionally Integrated Time Series And Volatility Models, Rukman Ekanayake Jan 2021

Prediction Intervals For Fractionally Integrated Time Series And Volatility Models, Rukman Ekanayake

Doctoral Dissertations

"The two of the main formulations for modeling long range dependence in volatilities associated with financial time series are fractionally integrated generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic (FIGARCH) and hyperbolic generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic (HYGARCH) models. The traditional methods of constructing prediction intervals for volatility models, either employ a Gaussian error assumption or are based on asymptotic theory. However, many empirical studies show that the distribution of errors exhibit leptokurtic behavior. Therefore, the traditional prediction intervals developed for conditional volatility models yield poor coverage. An alternative is to employ residual bootstrap-based prediction intervals. One goal of this dissertation research is to develop …

Quantification Of Climate Variability And Extreme Events In The Great Plains, Angelinah Ntsieng Rasoeu

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Climate variability and extreme events continue to worsen resulting in significant impacts to society and the environment. Quantifying precipitation variability, streamflow, and extreme events at local scale is crucial for local planning and management due to spatial and temporal precipitation variability which influences streamflow and thus, water resources. This study uses statistical tools to analyze 1895-2019 (125 years) of historical precipitation data to examine how long-term precipitation varies annually, seasonally, and monthly, and create climate classifications. The results show that annual precipitation is increasing linearly over time ranging from 13.2 in (1976) to 43.1 in (2010) and 5 climate classes …

Spatial And Temporal Patterns Of Sympatric Bobcats (Lynx Rufus) And Coyotes (Canis Latrans) In An Agricultural Landscape, Marlin M. Dart

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Bobcat (Lynx rufus) populations experienced declines in the Midwest during the 20th century due to land conversion for agriculture and over exploitation and were practically nonexistent in areas by the 1970-80s. Populations have been recovering following changes in land-use practices and habitat improvement. Eastern South Dakota was closed to bobcat harvest in 1977 but reopened in 2012 to select counties. Bobcats are elusive, have large home ranges, and occur at low densities, making monitoring their populations difficult. Camera trapping is an effective tool for monitoring elusive carnivores but can be burdened by low detection rates. Researchers often employ …

Therapeutic Immunoglobulin G Surface Mobility Promotes Antibody-Dependent Cellular Phagocytosis By Arp2/3 And Syk Mediated Rearrangement Of Fcγ Receptors, Seongwan Jo

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Therapeutic antibodies are rapidly growing class of drugs for treating cancers and immunological disorders by targeting specific antigens or blocking certain pathway to inhibit the tumor growth. In cancer immunotherapy, it was found that Fcγ receptor (FcγR) in immune cells play an important role in antibody dependent cell toxicity against tumor cells. Therefore, understanding FcγR activation mechanism, which requires ligation with immunoglobulin (IgG), is crucial to enhance potency of therapeutic antibodies. One crucial immune responses triggered upon FcγR ligation with IgG is phagocytosis which indicates clearing targets by engulfment. It is known that FcγRs form microclusters which gets rearranged during …

Development Of A Probabilistic Multi-Class Model Selection Algorithm For High-Dimensional And Complex Data, Madeline Anne Ausdemore Jan 2021

Development Of A Probabilistic Multi-Class Model Selection Algorithm For High-Dimensional And Complex Data, Madeline Anne Ausdemore

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The development of quantifiable measures of uncertainty in forensic conclusions has resulted in the debut of several ad-hoc methods for approximating the weight of evidence (WoE). In particular, forensic researchers have attempted to use similarity measures, or scores, to approximate the weight of evidence characterized by highdimensional and complex data. Score-based methods have been proposed to approximate theWoE for numerous evidence types (e.g., fingerprints, handwriting, inks, voice analysis). In general, scorebased methods consider the score as a projection onto the real line. For example, the score-based likelihood ratio evaluates and compares the likelihoods of a score calculated between two objects …

Unsupervised Representation Learning By Predicting Random Distances, Hu Wang, Guansong Pang, Chunhua Shen, Congbo Ma Jan 2021

Unsupervised Representation Learning By Predicting Random Distances, Hu Wang, Guansong Pang, Chunhua Shen, Congbo Ma

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Deep neural networks have gained great success in a broad range of tasks due to its remarkable capability to learn semantically rich features from high-dimensional data. However, they often require large-scale labelled data to successfully learn such features, which significantly hinders their adaption in unsupervised learning tasks, such as anomaly detection and clustering, and limits their applications to critical domains where obtaining massive labelled data is prohibitively expensive. To enable unsupervised learning on those domains, in this work we propose to learn features without using any labelled data by training neural networks to predict data distances in a randomly projected …

Evaluation And Assessment Of The Near Field Behind 3d Printed-Modulators For Proton Beam Therapy, Warisara Charuchinda

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

A 3D-printed modulator is an innovation developed for particle therapy delivery systems that enables a highly conformal and homogeneous dose distribution around the tumor within a very short irradiation time. In normal cases, the modulators are positioned far from the patient in order to avoid the field inhomogeneity resulting from the periodic structure of the modulators on patient’s skin. However, a smaller distance between the modulator and patient would provide a better dose conformation in the target volume. In this thesis, the FLUKA Monte Carlo simulation program was used to investigate the fluence distributions of protons penetrating through 3D-printed modulators …

Automatic Cardioembolic Stroke Prediction Using Clinical Features And Non-Contrast Ct Images, Pasit Jakkrawankul

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Cardioembolic stroke is a dangerous subtype of ischemic stroke. The patients with this subtype need special treatments to prevent recurrent events. The prevention is vital since only one more event could result in fatal damage. Hence, the classification into the categories of cardioembolic and non-cardioembolic subtypes is essential. We developed a multimodal machine learning model that can integrate the basic clinical information and non-contrast CT images to predict the risk of cardioembolic stroke. Our method reached the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC-AUC) of 0.840 by using a dataset of only 227 samples of stroke patients. Besides the …
