Ai Helps To Establish A New Paradigm For Scientific Research, Weinan E

Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)

The main purpose of scientific research is to discover fundamental principles and solve practical problems. Although tremendous progress has been made on both fronts, the lack of effective tools and efficient organizational structure still stands as the main bottleneck for scientific progress. The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) offers a new possibility. In recent years, deep learning has had an impressive performance, both in helping to solve fundamental scientific problems and in improving the effectiveness of scientific research tools. A new set of infrastructure is emerging, leading us to a new paradigm, the“Android paradigm”, for doing scientific research.

N-Acyl ketenimines were attempted to be synthesized catalytically by [Ru(Cp)(PPh2NPh2)(NCMe)]PF6 with phenylacetylene and 3-phenethynyl-1,2,4-dioxazol-5-one. Trapping agents were employed to identify the major product of the reaction, as many products were formed. [Ru(Cp)(PPh2NPh2)(NCMe)]PF6 reacts with 3-phenethynyl-1,2,4-dioxazol-5-one generating an isocyanate via the Curtius rearrangement, confirmed by a forced Curtius rearrangement with 3-phenethynyl-1,2,4-dioxazol-5-one and 1,2,4-triazole. Rates of vinylidene formation using [Ru(Cp)(PPh2NPh2)(NCMe)]PF6 and various terminal alkynes of different sterics and electronics were evaluated using a Hammett analysis for and simple rate comparisons. …

College of Humanities and Sciences Faculty Papers

In the present study, we introduce a collocation approach utilizing quintic B-spline functions as bases for solving systems of Lane Emden equations which have various applications in theoretical physics and astrophysics. The method derives a solution for the provided system by converting it into a set of algebraic equations with unknown coefficients, which can be easily solved to determine these coefficients. Examining the convergence theory of the proposed method reveals that it yields a fourth-order convergent approximation. It is confirmed that the outcomes are consistent with the theoretical investigation. Tables and graphs illustrate the proficiency and consistency of the proposed …

Prediction of taxi service demand and supply is essential for improving customer experience and provider's profit. Recently, graph neural networks (GNNs), modeling city areas as nodes in a transportation graph, have been shown efficient for this application as they utilize both local node features and the graph structure in the prediction. Still, further improvement can be achieved by either simultaneously exploiting different types of nodes/edges in the graphs or enlarging the scale of the transportation graph. However, both alternatives are challenged by the scalability of GNNs. An immediate remedy to the scalability challenge is to decentralize the GNN operation. In …

Locally Tight Programs, Jorge Fandinno, Vladimir Lifschitz, Nathan Temple

Computer Science Faculty Publications

Program completion is a translation from the language of logic programs into the language of first-order theories. Its original definition has been extended to programs that include integer arithmetic, accept input, and distinguish between output predicates and auxiliary predicates. For tight programs, that generalization of completion is known to match the stable model semantics, which is the basis of answer set programming. We show that the tightness condition in this theorem can be replaced by a less restrictive “local tightness” requirement. From this fact we conclude that the proof assistant ANTHEM-P2P can be used to verify equivalence between locally tight …

Hyperstructures In Chemical Hyperstructures Of Redox Reactions With Three And Four Oxidation States, Fakhry Asad Agusfrianto, Sonea Andromeda, Mariam Hariri

All Works

Hyperstructures find numerous applications across various disciplines. One notable application is in chemistry, particularly in the context of chemical reactions. In 2014, Davvaz introduced the concept of bi-hyperstructures, but their application specifically in chemical reactions, has yet to be thoroughly explored in previous studies. Thus, the primary aim of this paper is to examine and analyze the different types of bi-hyperstructures present within chemical hyperstructures. The scope of this study focuses on two types of chemical hyperstructures: redox reactions and reactions in electrochemical cells. Within these chemical hyperstructures, we investigate the possibility of bi-hyperstructures among bi-semihypergroups, bi-hypergroups, bi-H_v-semigroups, and bi-H_v-groups. …

Beyond Standard Model: Structure Factors Of Models Of Different Quarks And Neutrinos As Spinning Structures Made Of Basic Fractional Charges +- E/3, Polievkt Perov

College of Arts & Sciences Faculty Works

We consider a possible line of “elementary” particles as composite spinning structures made of just two basic elementary particles of charges + e/3 and -e/3. In considered structures, up to 3 basic charges can be on the axis of rotation and other charges can be in a revolving motion about the axis. In addition to the simplest structures of quarks, an electron and a neutral particle containing mostly one or no charges on the axis of rotation, suggested initially in [4], we analyze possible spatial structures of spinning composite particles having 2 or 3 charges on the axis of rotation. …

The Shifting Landscape Of Adolescent Wellness In Boarding Schools: Can Time Spent Off Screens And Outdoors Improve Adolescent Wellbeing?, Kristen H. Peterson

Dartmouth College Master’s Theses

For nearly twenty years I have worked directly with adolescents as an independent school educator. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or in the dorm, I have observed and supported students through their middle and high school experiences. During this time, I have witnessed an alarming shift in adolescent physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. Concurrently, I have observed a dramatic increase in the amount of time students spend using screen-based devices, and a decrease in their time spent outdoors.

Using research to ground my anecdotal accounts in empirical understanding, my thesis examines whether or not screen use might help …

Quantum Computing: Computing Of The Future Made Reality, Janelle Mathis

KSU Proceedings on Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

Abstract—Quantum computing is an emerging new area focused on technology consisting of quantum theory aspects such as electrons, sub-atomic particles, and other materials engineered using quantum mechanics. Through quantum mechanics, these computers can solve problems that classical computers deem too complex. Today the closest computing technology compared to quantum computers are supercomputers, but similarly to classical computers, supercomputers also have faults. With supercomputers, when a problem is deemed too complex, it is due to the classical machinery components within the computer, thus causing a halt in solving the task or problem. In contrast, these problems could be solved with a …

Using a choice-based conjoint analysis, we measured willingness to pay (WTP) for an increase in the share of specific Renewable Energy (RE) technologies, namely solar, wind, biomass, and small-scale hydropower. The study found that on average, Metro Manila (MM) households are WTP an additional 19.3% of their electricity bill for an additional 20% share of RE in electric power capacity that is sourced from solar power. The corresponding WTP for the other RE technologies are substantially lower - 11.9% for biomass, 10.5% for wind, and 9.8% for small-scale hydropower. The skewed preference for solar energy augurs well for the government's …

The trade-off between robustness and tunability is a central challenge in the pursuit of quantum simulation and fault-tolerant quantum computation. In particular, quantum architectures are often designed to achieve high coherence at the expense of tunability. Many current qubit designs have fixed energy levels and consequently limited types of controllable interactions. Here by adiabatically transforming fixed-frequency superconducting circuits into modifiable Floquet qubits, we demonstrate an XXZ Heisenberg interaction with fully adjustable anisotropy. This interaction model can act as the primitive for an expressive set of quantum operations, but is also the basis for quantum simulations of spin systems. To illustrate …
