A House On Cambridge Hill (38gn2): An Excavation Report, Steven G. Baker Mar 1972

A House On Cambridge Hill (38gn2): An Excavation Report, Steven G. Baker

Research Manuscript Series

Archeological investigation of a house ruin at the site of the extinct community of Cambridge, South Carolina, was completed in 1971 as part of a larger project at the site of Holmes' Fort (38GN2), one of the defensive works at the Revolutionary War Site of Ninety Six. The ruin examined consisted of the brick lined cellar of a house believed to have been constructed in the 1785 period when Cambridge first began to develop as a community. The house was moved or torn down in the late eighteenth or very early nineteenth century, and the cellar hole was subsequently used …

Town And Countryside In Serbia In The Nineteenth-Century, Social And Household Structure As Reflected In The Census Of 1863, Joel Halpern Jan 1972

Town And Countryside In Serbia In The Nineteenth-Century, Social And Household Structure As Reflected In The Census Of 1863, Joel Halpern

Joel M. Halpern

Balkan familial and household structure has been the subject of discussion and study for over a century, but not much attention has been paid to the specifics of size and kinship composition. If we give as a brief tentative definition of the zadruga an extended household composed of a father and his married sons and their offspring (paternal zadruga), or two or more married brothers and their children (fraternal zadruga), how many people in a given community actually lived in these types of households? What about the size of the households themselves? Much of the literature with respect to the …

003 Tehui Atahu, Oral Legend

Sikaiana Oral Stories

The Story of Tehui Atahu

This is a transcript and translation of 12 pages given to me by Edwin Huilani on Sikaiana, in 1981-2. The story is about the founder hero of Sikaiana, Tehui Atahu. The back page of the manuscript is dated August 1972. Although I do not know the source, the story follows closely the stories that I heard on Sikaiana, although there are several different versions with minor differences. The original and translation should be of interest to Sikaiana people and might be an aid in language preservation.

Population Profiles By Factor Analysis: Study Of A Rural Arkansas Community, Mary Jo Grinstead, Sandra Scholtz Jan 1972

Population Profiles By Factor Analysis: Study Of A Rural Arkansas Community, Mary Jo Grinstead, Sandra Scholtz

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

Factor analysis was used as a preliminary data analytic technique to delineate population profiles in a rural, poverty-level community. The technique was useful in defining the nature of sociological interdependencies in the population so that the heterogeneity in the community could be understood. Four factors identified as representing socio-economic status, age-work attitudes, morality, and participation dimensions were extracted from the correlation matrix.

Agriculture And Pollution In Western Australia. Part 1. Background, C V. Malcolm

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

For centuries there has been awareness of pollution but it has received dramatic publicity in recent years.

In Western Australia, provisions for its control are written into the Health Act and many other Acts besides the Environmental Protection Act of 1971.

A number of factors have acted worldwide and locally to increase awareness and concern about pollution, and to justify careful examination of the problems it causes.

The Women's Liberation Movement And Identity Change : An Urban Pilot Study, Molly M. Doeneka Jan 1972

The Women's Liberation Movement And Identity Change : An Urban Pilot Study, Molly M. Doeneka

Dissertations and Theses

The purpose of this study was to determine if participation in Women's Liberation results in identity change in the individual participants. As a pilot study, it examines the characteristic experiences of a study group of twenty-six local participants and compares the effects of their participation with a theoretical model of identity change process proposed by Ward H. Goodenough in Cooperation in Change. According to this model the process of identity change is a consequence of specific kinds of realizations fostered by a series of definable stages which are: 1) achieving a desire for identity change, 2) making a commitment to …
