Letter Report On Ninety Six Pottery Fragments, Ivor Noel Hume
Letter Report On Ninety Six Pottery Fragments, Ivor Noel Hume
Research Manuscript Series
A 2 1/2 page letter from Ivor Noel Hume, Director/Department of Archaeology at Colonial Williamsburg, to Richard R. Polhemus at the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology. In the letter, Noel Hume states that he can be of little help in identifying the fragments which were in the list sent by Polhemus on Dec. 14 beyond the identification Polhemus has no doubt already made, although he does provide some commentary on selected fragments and marks. Following the letter is the eight page fragment list that was sent to Noel Hume by Polhemus.
An Exploration Into The Applicability Of A Psychological Technique For Anthropological Research, Gwendolyn Marie Harris Pierce
An Exploration Into The Applicability Of A Psychological Technique For Anthropological Research, Gwendolyn Marie Harris Pierce
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis purports to explore and describe the types of information that would be obtainable to the anthropological researcher if he used the minimally structured small group (MDMS-SG) technique with members of a selected ethnic group. The approach was tried on Japanese Portland State University students and also on Saudi Arab Portland State University students for six sessions each. They were told that a graduate anthropology student wanted to get to know them and learn what they thought she should know about their countries.
The sessions were taped and notes written after each session. This corpus of material was analyzed …

Melvin Randolph Gilmore, Incipient Cultural Ecologist: A Biographic Analysis, David L. Erickson
Melvin Randolph Gilmore, Incipient Cultural Ecologist: A Biographic Analysis, David L. Erickson
Open Access Master's Theses (through 2010)
This thesis will be a study in microcosm of Melvin R. Gilmore’s Nebraska research. The study analyzes his ethnobiological field work and writings in terms of biographic factors.Gilmore’s ethnobiological research manifests both bioecological and cultural ecological rationales. The thesis shows that Gilmore’s pioneering work in ethnobiology, together with studies by Harrington and others, laid the groundwork for modern cultural ecology as practiced by Julian Steward and others. The author of the thesis used original documents from the Nebraska State Historical Society in his research.
While in Nebraska Gilmore developed an interest in ethnobiology. His initial ethnobotanical field work was related …
The 46th Street Site And The Occurrence Of Allegan Ware In Southwestern Michigan, Margaret B. Rogers
The 46th Street Site And The Occurrence Of Allegan Ware In Southwestern Michigan, Margaret B. Rogers
Masters Theses
The 46th Street site is located on a steep bank twenty feet above the Kalamazoo River in the Allegan State Forest in Allegan County, Michigan. Radiocarbon dates indicate that the site was occupied about A. D. 1200. The settlement pattern and ecological data for the 46th Street site points to the conclusion that this was a winter hunting camp of the Chippewa type. A comparison of the pottery from the 46th Street site with the pottery from the Fenneville site which is located in Manilus Twonship, Allegan County and dates from about A. D. 700, yields some interferences about variation …

Premarital Sex Norms: A Test Of A Conceptual Model, Jerry Asselin
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this investigation is to further improve and re-test the validity of the conceptual model, constructed by Gipson Wells (to be explained in Chapter III) and to increase understanding and knowledge in respect to premarital sexual norms. Stated in another way, verification of the model will more accurately reflect the manner in which young people perceive, and apply these norms.
