This paper discusses the technique of controlled surface collection as an interpretative aid at the Spinach Patch site, 3FR1, a prehistoric village site in Ozark Reservoir. The research involved was made possible through a cooperative agreement with the National Park Service, Southeast Region.

The traditional ballad, the genre of the above poetry, has been a subject of much controversy and speculation, especially regarding its origin. The problem of origin is not likely to be solved unless much more evidence is found. Among the many theories are communal authorship, and individual poet; humble and oral origin, and sophisticated and literary origin. Studies of linguistics, of ballad refrain, and of carole continue the attempt to discover ballad genesis. However, a very different approach perhaps can be used to determine the origin of some ballads, particularly the romantic ballads; that approach is to use the courtly …

Park City, Utah, has been one of the most permanent mining camps in Utah. While constituting the industrial and population center of Summit County, it has contributed over one half billions dollars to the economies of Utah and the nation. This thesis deals with the early years of Park City, 1869-1910. This period saw an influx and combination of several ethnic groups which served to enrich the cultural history of Park City. Religion and social organizations were a major part of the life of this community. The political effect of this mining camp on Summit County and the Territory of …

Late Archaic Cultures Of The Middle Rio Grande Valley, New Mexico: A Study Of The Process Of Culture Change, Theodore Russell Reinhart

The course of cultural development is examined in the late archaic cultures of the middle Rio Grande valley. New Mexico. Th1s course ls viewed as a process of culture change responding to the impetus from cultural and extra-cultural factors. Change in cultural patterns accessible through the archaeological record, including both economic and social patterns, is delineated; and an attempt is made to explicate this change 1n terms of cultural adaptation. Ecological change 1s recognized as a major factor influencing culture change at the archaic level of development. but other factors are considered.
