It now constitutes the paramount expression of tribal religion.

The introduction of the Sun Dance initiated a period of reorientation in Native religion. Considerable group effort was required to conduct the ceremony, and participation temporarily obliterated band distinctions. New leaders with knowledge of esoteric Sun Dance lore emerged from the ranks of …

Economy And Protein Malnutrition Among The Digo, Luther P. Gerlach Jan 1961

Economy And Protein Malnutrition Among The Digo, Luther P. Gerlach

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

In short, even where protein malnutrition is primarily a result of poor environment, economy, and technology, other, often less obvious, traditional cultural patterns must be taken into account in any development and improvement program. If kwashiorkor is to be eliminated satisfactorily, and if contingent problems are to be kept to a minimum, these other patterns must often also be modified.

The importance of traditional cultural patterns is perhaps best illustrated by an example of a people who suffer from protein malnutrition primarily because of them. The Digo tribe of coastal Kenya and Tanganyika, among whom this writer conducted anthropological field …

Ceramic Analysis Of The Blackduck Ware And Its General Cultural Relationships, G. Edward Evans

Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science

The present paper involves the ceramic analysis section of a more comprehensive study relating to the seven most extensively excavated Blackduck focus sites in Minnesota. The pottery from the sites analyzed falls into three ware categories: the Blackduck ware, the Laurel or Rainy River ware, and a third unidentified ware. The Blackduck ware, which is the one with which we are primarily concerned, has been generally described by Lloyd A. Wilford several times (1941, 1955). His description of the pottery may be taken as a general ware description, although there are several details that need clarification. The· ware may be …

A Study Of The Attitudes Toward And Understandings Of Temple Marriage Of A Selected Group Of Seminary Students In The Alpine School District (Utah), Jerald Ray Johansen

Theses and Dissertations

The objective of most religious teachings and concepts is to change the student's attitude that desirable behavior may follow. The measurement of attitudes and the way people feel about certain religious concepts are, to an extent, determinative of their behavior. This realization has brought about a steady growth within the educational field of attitude and opinion measurement. It has also influenced religious educators to investigate this field in their efforts to get people to attain desirable religious goals.

The problem, investigated in the present research, was concerned with whether the youth of seminary age in the Church of Jesus Christ …
