Archival and Primary Source Research (UDI 204) is a one-credit course at the University of Dayton designed to introduce students to the themes of historical empathy, visual literacy, privacy, and silences in the archives. This case study explores the pilot iteration of this mini-course, taught collaboratively with a team of six librarians and archivists. With the intention of furthering the goals of the University Libraries’ strategic plan, the course was developed to move beyond what can be accomplished during a one-shot instructional session in regard to primary source literacy. The various sectors of archives and related professions can diverge from each other in priorities, strategies, constituencies, and resource availability. Individuals changing positions across these sectors have an opportunity to bring skills learned in their previous field(s) to transform the work being done in archives and related institutions. Cross-sector experiences also provide an opportunity to reflect on how such transitions transformed an individual’s outlook on the profession as a whole and his or her role within it. CALASYS is the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA)’s academic resource and repository system. The purpose of the system is to collect, organize, and store scholarly publications, library and information science related resources created or contributed by CALA members and others in the library field. The CALASYS Committee will share the experiences of collecting data, creating metadata, and improving access to the data. As an all-volunteer committee, the group works with the CALA community which consists of members from different types of libraries and information professions. Broader economic trends spawn budget pressures for education and libraries, prompting a plethora of studies on the value and relevance of libraries. Numerous reports on economic decline in libraries and studies with mixed pronouncements on the value of libraries have led to a negative self-image within the library profession. Effective collaboration between archivists and technical services librarians can increase the discoverability of special collection materials. In this panel presentation, archivists and a technical services librarian from a medium-sized institution discussed archival tools available to preserve collections of digital content and how to make the collections available universitywide.

Working together, the panelists had created a plan to integrate these collections into the discovery layer so that metadata was indexed on a single user-friendly platform. After advertising the collections, they collected usage statistics to determine impact.

Change is the only constant in digital collections work. Evolving technologies, resources, and needs require a constant flexibility in not only what work is done, but how and by whom. Over the course of the 2017-2018 academic year, Grand Valley State University Libraries held a series of facilitated conversations to analyze the workflows, organizational structure, and overall support for the management of digital collections and repositories. This article summarizes the facilitation process and highlights areas of opportunity, aspirations, and future directions.

This study aims to identify and analyze the availability collections of Library Center of IAIN Surakarta, and the factors that influence the availability of materials teaching for Islamic Counseling and Guidance Study Programme. This research is a qualitative and quantitative methode. Data analysis was carried out using the checklist and interview. Based on the research, 49,5% availability collections for institute level courses, and 44.7% for departement level. Based on the findings research, Library Center of IAIN Surakarta collections has not fulfilled the need for compulsory teaching materials.
