Max Arthur Cohn's Serigraphs And The Progressive Legacy Of The New Deal, Mirel Crumb
Max Arthur Cohn's Serigraphs And The Progressive Legacy Of The New Deal, Mirel Crumb
Theses and Dissertations
Max Arthur Cohn (American, b. England 1903-1998) was among the first artists to create “serigraphs,” a type of silkscreen print that gained popularity in the 1940s in New York City. Cohn was a founding member of the Silk Screen Group which later became the National Serigraph Society. This thesis contextualizes Cohn’s serigraphs within the history of the medium’s development and the broader history of mid-twentieth century American art. I analyze how Cohn’s serigraphs made for demonstration democratized access to the medium, Cohn’s experimentation in serigraphy expressed the diversity of style encouraged by Popular Front, and Cohn’s serigraph prints and greeting …

Due to the proliferation of the use of social media, the public—especially patients and their family or friends, try to seek answers from resources such as Facebook, Yahoo! Answers, YouTube, MedlinePlus, and other sites. This research study centered on investigating characteristics and the relationship between users’ online patterns while using and posting information on YouTube related to health-care—in this case malaria (a life-threatening mosquito-borne blood disease). This research study applied a mixed-methods approach. Subject analysis, multi-dimensional scaling (MDS) analysis, inferential analysis, and temporal analysis methods were employed to analyze and investigate users’ health information posts on YouTube in Africa. This …

Purpose This paper engages multidisciplinary perspectives on truth, authority, expertise and belief to unpack and better understand the underlying epistemology and implications of the ACRL frame “authority is constructed and contextual”.' Design/Methodology/Approach Following an overview of the issues confronting us in a “post-truth world”, the paper reviews critiques of the ACRL frame “authority is constructed and contextual” and examines the related concepts of truth, authority, expertise and belief from multidisciplinary perspectives. A Relational Ontological Framework For Identifying Unstated Assumptions In Scientific Datasets, Kathryn Elizabeth Knight
A Relational Ontological Framework For Identifying Unstated Assumptions In Scientific Datasets, Kathryn Elizabeth Knight
Doctoral Dissertations
Every field of modern science relies on data as something foundational, the basic material that provides researchers with evidence of all recordable phenomena. Data carries an epistemic weight, linking various sensory experience as proof to our propositions, supporting scientific pursuit to get to the truth of something and justify scientific belief. However, to measure or count amounts to categorization, and the categories we create emerge from the models and cognitive schemes constructed in the minds of human beings. Our data is collected, measured, divided, and otherwise organized according to how we think about the world, and retains inherent unstated assumptions …

Organizational change generally and reorganization especially can inherently cause feelings of nervousness and tension. This chapter discusses the moving parts of an organizational transformation to an R1 library and how communication and consensus-building efforts at multiple levels of the library are vital to this kind of transition. Prior to their library’s reorganization, the three authors worked on three different teams across two different units. After the reorganization, the authors were positioned in the same department within a new division in the library and faced the challenge of leading their teams in a new structural environment. Clemson University’s mascot is the …

All Musselman Library Staff Works
Musselman Library approved its second Inclusion Action Plan in December 2020, for implementation in 2021–2024. To stay abreast of changing needs, the DEIB Committee has collaborated on an updated Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Strategic plan, which addresses what we see as the most pressing issues now and in the upcoming years.
The decision to create a new plan is based on changes at Gettysburg College, including a new Chief Diversity Officer and new institutional priorities and programs, as well as decreases in budget, staffing, enrollment, and tuition revenues.
Our focus will be on three strategic areas, as determined by …

Keeping The Light On: Academic Librarians And Burnout, Jason D. Phillips, Laura Pitts, Jessica Riedmueller, Joanna Warren
The Southeastern Librarian
There is substantial research about sources of burnout among academic librarians; however, very little addresses the impact of the local environment. Responding to regional and institutional shifts while still trying to uphold the values of librarianship such as providing confidential and free access to information can quickly lead to mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion, classic symptoms of burnout. A panel discussion was presented at the Arkansas Library Association (ArLA) / Southeast Library Association (SELA) Joint Conference, on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Academic librarians from different Southern states discussed their local environments, their libraries’ responses to recent events, and their strategies …
