Thematic Mapping Of Apidae Holdings Within The University Of Arkansas Arthropod Museum, Baylie Lenora Day
Thematic Mapping Of Apidae Holdings Within The University Of Arkansas Arthropod Museum, Baylie Lenora Day
Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences Undergraduate Honors Theses
Museum biological collections store species data that can be utilized in research on biodiversity, environmental change, invasive species, public health, and disease. The University of Arkansas Arthropod Museum, which began in 1905, houses over 750,000 specimens and has not yet been digitized. Making data publicly accessible via the internet makes the data available to the entire scientific community. The goal of this project was to create a digital resource to allow greater access to the University of Arkansas Arthropod Museum holdings. To do so, data from Bombus (bumble bee) and Xylocopa (carpenter bee) specimens were databased in Excel and displayed …

Inclusive Global Scholarly Communication: Toward A Just And Healthier Information Ecosystem, Angel Y. Ford, Daniel G. Alemneh
Information Science Faculty Scholarship
Scholarly communication has long been a central topic in the field of information science. However, philosophical, and even perhaps some legal reflections, including the moral and ethical considerations of the health of information ecosystems, are fairly recent developments. In fact, recent topics are propelled by various contextual factors including economic, disciplinary, societal norms, and cultures. This article explores literature discussing the plight of scholars in low- and middle-income countries that struggle to engage in scholarly communications in their fields. This topic has been explored for years, however, has often been addressed in disciplines outside of information science and knowledge management. This …

Code For Care: Hypertension Prediction In Women Aged 18-39 Years, Kruti Sheth
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
The longstanding prevalence of hypertension, often undiagnosed, poses significant risks of severe chronic and cardiovascular complications if left untreated. This study investigated the causes and underlying risks of hypertension in females aged between 18-39 years. The research questions were: (Q1.) What factors affect the occurrence of hypertension in females aged 18-39 years? (Q2.) What machine learning algorithms are suited for effectively predicting hypertension? (Q3.) How can SHAP values be leveraged to analyze the factors from model outputs? The findings are: (Q1.) Performing Feature selection using binary classification Logistic regression algorithm reveals an array of 30 most influential factors at an …

Streamlined Workflow For Qualitative Data Analysis With Whisper And Atlas.Ti, Bella Ratmelia, Bryan Leow, Danping Dong
Research Collection Library
Qualitative research, often reliant on interviews and focus groups, stands to benefit significantly from the latest advancements and innovations in AI. This workshop presents a practical and efficient research workflow with two powerful tools—Whisper and ATLAS.ti—to streamline the process of qualitative data analysis.
Whisper is an open-source machine learning model for speech recognition and transcription by OpenAI. With the ability to achieve human-level accuracy in speech recognition, it significantly reduces the time and effort required for transcribing, saving your time for more valuable work.
Moving beyond transcription, the workshop presents ATLAS.ti, a well-established qualitative data analysis tool. Learn how to …

A Compilation, Analysis, And Categorization Of 403 Atmospheric And Climate Science Misconceptions, Haeli Leighty
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
The National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) has listed the inaccessibility of research related to misconceptions in atmospheric and climate science as a Geoscience Education Research Grand Challenge (Cervato et al. 2018). This project was a direct response to this call for research and consisted of three distinct steps: 1) data gathering, which included reviewing the literature for relevant misconception data, 2) a qualitative analysis, which included compiling, organizing, and categorizing the data collected, and 3) a quantitative analysis, which included determining the prevalence of each misconception across topic categories, demographic categories, and over time. A total of 403 misconceptions …

Persistent Identifiers And The Next Generation Of Legal Scholarship, Aaron Retteen, Malikah Hall-Retteen
Persistent Identifiers And The Next Generation Of Legal Scholarship, Aaron Retteen, Malikah Hall-Retteen
Faculty Scholarship
This article discusses the importance of the most common persistent identifiers in scholarly communications—the digital object identifier and the ORCID identifier—to legal scholarship. Persistent identifiers help preserve and disseminate academic content and data-driven services that leverage this information standard are now integrated into the publication process. Because legal publishers have not widely adopted persistent identifiers, the legal discipline cannot enjoy the benefits offered by this system. This article looks at barriers to implementing persistent identifiers among legal publishers and provides an anecdotal example of creating a sustainable workflow between the law library and student-run law journals.

Library Anxiety: How Elements Of Morrison’S Fourth Place And The Fast Casual Approach From The Restaurant Industry May Make The Academic Library Space More Inviting, Tara J. Kunesh
Georgia Library Quarterly
The concept of library anxiety was introduced by Constance Mellon in 1986. Since then, studies have attempted to shed light upon this phenomenon to mitigate the feelings of apprehension students may feel when utilizing the academic library space or when seeking the professional help of librarians. This literature review examines the literature and, specifically, discusses whether it is possible to configure the physical library space in a more inviting way. It highlights sociology of space theories as well as concepts behind the fast casual movement employed by the restaurant industry as possible routes to improvement.

International Games Day (IGD) is one of the Atlanta University Center (AUC) Robert W. Woodruff Library's most popular annual outreach events. The library's IGD transformed from a one-day event for its AUC community members to come visit, socialize, and play a few rounds of table-top card and board games into a two-day event with broader gaming and e-sports networking opportunities which has been very well-received.
