Jesuit B-Schools: Powering Regional Socio-Economic Development And Problem Solving Through Analysis & Application Of Best Global Practices, María Del Pino Ramos, Anatoly Zhuplev, Jose Rincón, María José Vazquez
LMU Librarian Publications & Presentations
Our exploratory research and development (R&D) project is a joint undertaking by two Jesuit institutions, Loyola Marymount University (LMU), U.S.A., and Universidad Loyola Andalucía (ULA), Spain. We aim to leverage collaborative potential of Jesuit B-schools to facilitate regional socio-economic development (RSED) and growth through the analysis and application of best global practices. Many universities have rich intellectual potential and information resources that are often underutilized. Our undertaking strives to engage these resources to foster positive impacts on RSED and problem-solving. The project aligns with Jesuit educational values and aims to redirect the creative power of the young generation from dependency …

Same Book, New Tricks: How An Academic-Public Library Partnership Revitalized A Rural Library, Faith L. Bradham, Ariel Dyer
Humboldt Journal of Social Relations
In 2020, many small communities in California’s Central Valley lost their public libraries during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, the public library in rural Shafter is thriving today as a result of a unique partnership between the local community college and Shafter: the college provides ongoing library staffing for the city’s library, while the city provides facilities, collections, and oversight for the library. This partnership, though not without its challenges, has provided both Shafter Library and Bakersfield College Library with a singular opportunity to engage multiple communities and expand library access beyond traditional conceptions of an academic or a public library. …
Academic Instruction Librarians’ Conceptions Of Teacher Agency And Affective Orientations Toward The Concept, Andrea Baer
Academic Instruction Librarians’ Conceptions Of Teacher Agency And Affective Orientations Toward The Concept, Andrea Baer
Libraries Scholarship
This article reports on findings of an online survey on academic instruction librarians’ conceptions and experiences of teacher agency in the context of their instruction work and, more specifically, on their affective orientations (positive, ambivalent, or negative emotions and feelings) toward teacher agency. Two key dimensions of participants’ conceptions of teacher agency are evident throughout this analysis: 1) views of teacher agency as an individual experience of autonomy (individual agency) and/or views of it as more relational and interactive (and thus potentially collective), and 2) beliefs about the feasibility of librarians’ teacher agency, given librarians’ roles and positions as educators. …

Bias And Whiteness In Public Services, Annie Bélanger
Bias And Whiteness In Public Services, Annie Bélanger
Scholarly Papers and Articles
Race and gender bias intersect in particularly crucial way in Libraries as we experience them today with their roots in Victorian virtuous womanhood and an associated service ethic that requires library colleagues to prioritize user satisfaction even if at the cost of staff wellbeing, and at times, safety. This reality has led to an intertwining of identity, worth, and service ethic that is exacerbated through late stage capitalism that rewards business over impact and asks of us to want more.
On this basis, libraries have been ripe for critical review of our practices. As critical librarianship continues to grow, two …

Evaluation Of E-Governance Implementation: A Multi-Attribute Analysis Of E-Government Services Associated With The Annual Hajj Pilgrimage In Saudi Arabia, Moayad Mohammed M. Hakeem
Selected Full Text Dissertations, 2011-
The Hajj pilgrimage is an annual global event in Saudi Arabia. It draws millions of pilgrims worldwide because of its religious significance as the fifth pillar of Islam. Its organization is a massive endeavor for the Saudi government. This research analyzes the Hajj-related E-Government service systems (websites and mobile apps). This research utilizes a multi-attribute evaluative framework to address two areas of Hajj E-Government services: usability (RQ1) and interaction with the services (RQ2). A combination of heuristic evaluation and survey methods was used. The heuristic evaluation by three expert evaluators revealed accessibility, interactivity, and functional issues. Users with disabilities or …

Archives & Special Collections Finding Aids
The bulk of this collection consists of a wide array of far-left political pamphlets on various topics, mostly communist and socialist political movements within the United States, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Vietnam, and China. The topics involve labor unions and strikes, political revolutions, global women’s rights, communist and socialist history and dispelling false propaganda, LGBTQ+ rights, and African American rights. In addition to pamphlets, Dr. Della Giustina also collected newspaper runs published by far-left US labor groups that sought to expose big businesses, highlight the struggles and threats to immigrant workers, and bring awareness to the …

Generative Ai And Finding The Law, Paul D. Callister
Faculty Works
Legal information science requires, among other things, principles and theories. The article states six principles or considerations that any discussion of generative AI large language models and their role in finding the law must include. The article concludes that law librarianship will increasingly become legal information science and require new paradigms. In addition to the six principles, the article applies ecological holistic media theory to understand the relationship of the legal community’s cognitive authority, institutions, techné (technology, medium and method), geopolitical factors, and the past and future to understand the changes in this information milieu. The article also explains generative …

Doing The Impossible: Dealing With False Beliefs, Yuliya Filippovska
Doing The Impossible: Dealing With False Beliefs, Yuliya Filippovska
Antioch University Dissertations & Theses
Fighting false information, propaganda, open lies, rumors, misinformation, and disinformation by attacking it directly and challenging it is the dominant strategy for dealing with false beliefs (Lazer et al., 2018; Maseri et al., 2020; Van Bavel et al., 2021), and it is an important one. Refuting falsity is crucial. At the same time, there are instances when fighting false information does not work (Ardèvol-Abreu et al., 2020; McIntyre, 2018; Van Bavel et al., 2021). One of the reasons is that it denies another’s worldview, belief systems, and, as a result, their identity and even right to exist. Searching for alternative …
