Effects Of Contingent Music On Performance Of Retarded Children In A Two-Choice Discrimination Task, Dieter H. Eberl
Effects Of Contingent Music On Performance Of Retarded Children In A Two-Choice Discrimination Task, Dieter H. Eberl
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
A 125-item, two-choice discrimination test was given to 14 institutionalized mentally retarded children who were subsequently matched on several relevant variables. After Test I was given, all subjects received a music-preference test, and according to their preference were placed in one of two experimental treatment groups. Experimental Group A received music as reinforcement, and Group B received M & M's. The results indicated that a reliable difference was found between the two groups with the music group showing a highly significant increase in performance over Test I and Group B.
Effects Of Nurturance On Incidental Imitative Behavior, Ronald Raymond Monti
Effects Of Nurturance On Incidental Imitative Behavior, Ronald Raymond Monti
All Master's Theses
The purpose of the present study was twofold. It was hypothesized that a prior nurturant interaction with an adult model (M) would significantly increase incidental imitation in a child subject (S) receiving this positive relationship over Ss who interacted with a non-nurturant M, or Ss who received no interaction with M. Secondly, the length of the experimental nurturant relationship was manipulated in an attempt to determine its importance in obtaining increased imitative behavior.
The Effects Of Motivation Level And Task Difficulty On Performance On A Vigilance Task, Donald C. Johnston
The Effects Of Motivation Level And Task Difficulty On Performance On A Vigilance Task, Donald C. Johnston
All Master's Theses
Although many variables affecting vigilance behavior have been identified, there has not been substantial agreement on the importance of these variables as contributors either to performance decrements often found in laboratory research or to performance levels in industrial inspection tasks. Two variables of presumed importance are level of motivation and task difficulty. The purpose of the present experiment was to assess the main and interactive effects of these variables on performance on a task which approximated more closely an industrial inspection task than have the bulk of traditional vigilance studies.

A Study Of Early Reasoning Skills In The Trainable Mentally Retarded : As Related To Piaget's Seriation Theory, Robert William Ginther
A Study Of Early Reasoning Skills In The Trainable Mentally Retarded : As Related To Piaget's Seriation Theory, Robert William Ginther
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
In terms of Piaget's theory of cognitive development and the relationship he attributes between reasoning and the development of classification and seriation skills, the following questions arise: can early reasoning ability be enhanced through training? If IQ tests are accepted as measures of intellectual function, do they then contain a significant number of seriation type questions? If so, will the seriation test be an accepted measure of intellectual function?

The Modification Of A Specific Inappropriate Behavior By Using Visual Feedback, Stephen E. Jones
The Modification Of A Specific Inappropriate Behavior By Using Visual Feedback, Stephen E. Jones
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
The study demonstrated the use of self-observation via video tape as a treatment technique. The specific behavior modified was the inappropriate sitting position of ten mildly and moderately retarded adolescent girls. A repeated measures design with two matched groups was used with the experimental group receiving visual feedback of their behavior and the control group a non related visual presentation. The subjects in both groups were observed individually while participating in dyadic discussions with the experimenter. The dependent variable was the number of seconds the subjects exhibited the inappropriate sitting position per 15 minute discussion period. During the baseline and …

To some extent, each person is his own doctor, his own economist, his own historian, his own counselor, his own psychologist, and his own teacher.
It is said that a man who is his own lawyer has a fool for a client. Can the same be said of a man's other roles? At least for learning (which professionally intersects education and psychology) any person may have the goal of helping himself to appreciate and evaluate the role of the learning professional.
A knowledge explosion has taken place in the area of learning, as in the many fields of science in …
Effects Of Serial Position Of Relevant Cue In The Rehearsal Order And Method Of Encoding On Attention In A Single Cue Concept Identification Task, Barbara M. Bethel
Effects Of Serial Position Of Relevant Cue In The Rehearsal Order And Method Of Encoding On Attention In A Single Cue Concept Identification Task, Barbara M. Bethel
Student Work
Five groups of Ss were forced to encode briefly exposed stimuli in a prescribed order and to classify the stimulus as a negative or a positive instance of the concept. For the first four groups, trials to criterion were found to be a function of the ordinal position of the relevant cue in the encoding order. These groups were forced to encode in an ungrammatical order. The fifth group employed a grammatical order of encoding and the position of the relevant cue was randomly assigned to an S. The fifth group was found to be superior to the other four …
Relevancy Of Exteroceptive And Response Produced Cues As A Determinant Of Mixed Delayed Matching To Sample Performance., David Perkins
Relevancy Of Exteroceptive And Response Produced Cues As A Determinant Of Mixed Delayed Matching To Sample Performance., David Perkins
Psychology ETDs
ABSTRACT
Traditional delayed matching-to-sample paradigms may confound the cue properties associated with external stimuli and those cues produced by Ss delay interval behavior. This possible confounding arises since traditional paradigms explicitly control external stimuli, but include no control of Ss delay interval behavior.
In order to control the response produced cues during the delay interval, the present experiment required three groups of four pigeons each to complete, either a FR8 or FR16 during the delay intervals between the offset of standard hues and the onset of the comparison or matching stimuli. Depending upon the experimental conditions, a particular fixed ratio …

A major literary trend in twentieth century Western literature is psychological realism in the novel. Henry James, generally acknowledged as a master in this field of writing, set the pattern for this type. It is difficult to follow a literary form that has been well developed by another author, particularly a writer like James; yet, this is what Graham Greene has attempted to do. In his fictional works, Greene has used some of the insights that he gleaned from reading Henry James, whom he "ranks with the greatest of creative writers"
Effect Of Self-Concept Upon Performance Following Failure Stress, Daniel Stern
Effect Of Self-Concept Upon Performance Following Failure Stress, Daniel Stern
Master's Theses
Jahoda (1958) has summarized the thinking, which has been done about a group of behaviors jointly labeled "positive mental health." After reviewing the conceptualizations of both phenomenologically and analytically oriented writers, Jahoda distilled six classes of responses, which have been listed as representative of mental health. These general classes of responses includes (1) positive self-attitudes, (2) self-actualizing behavior, (J) integrative behavior, (4) autonomous behavior, (5) accurate perceptual behavior, (6) behavior by which the subject obtains mastery over his environment. Of the six response classes listed, two were chosen for the present study. Specifically, the relationship between the general categories of …

The Effects Of Varying A T Group Design Upon Self Concept, George Richard Woodruff
All Master's Theses
The purpose of this study was to examine what effects the varying of a T Group design would have upon self-concept and also to determine whether or not individuals who had participated in a T Group would report more positive self-concepts than persons who had not had such an experience.

The Effect Of Pretesting On The Training Of Conservation Behavior, Lynn Mannan

The purpose of the present research is to determine if a relationship exists between the traditional Piaget tasks used to identify the preoperational and transitional children and the effects of the training procedures designed to increase conservation behavior.
Semantic Differential Relationships As A Determinant Of Clustering, Burr R. Beckwith
Semantic Differential Relationships As A Determinant Of Clustering, Burr R. Beckwith
All Master's Theses
In the past, clustering research has focused primarily on the effect of pre-experimental associations and/or conceptual relationships on clustering in free recall. The present study marks a departure from this trend in that it was designed to determine under what conditions SD relationships among task-items would mediate clustering.
