Personality Correlates Of Creativity, David Howard Schroeder

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of the present study is twofold: (1) to investigate the extent to which changing criteria of creativity influences the selection of subjects with different personality characteristics; and (2) to determine if the selection of different subjects by different criteria of creativity also extends to the different scoring methods which can be applied to the same test of creativity.

The specific hypothesis to be tested in this study are: (1) There will be low or non-significant correlations both between the two specific tests of creativity and between the various methods of scoring each test.; (2) The subjects selected by …

A Comparison Of The Responses Of Achievers And Underachievers In A Junior High School On A Biographical Questionnaire, Claude Ashburn Sandy Jan 1965

A Comparison Of The Responses Of Achievers And Underachievers In A Junior High School On A Biographical Questionnaire, Claude Ashburn Sandy

Honors Theses

The purpose of the present study is to discover some of the biographical factors (personal, family, and environmental) which are characteristic of a majority of underachievers in junior high school. The discovery of these factors may lead to the development of an instrument which would assist in the detection, early in school, of an underachieving predisposition. This seems to be a logical possibility in view of a study by Shaw and Mccuen (1960). Their results indicated individual patterns of academic achievement for male and female underachievers beginning early in elementary school. Further, the classification of these factors by content may …

The Relationship Between Daydreams And Manifest Needs, Donald Cooper Watkins Jan 1965

The Relationship Between Daydreams And Manifest Needs, Donald Cooper Watkins

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

For many years psychologists have been interested in studying methods by which it is possible to assess the presence and strengths of needs (drives) within the human being. In particular, is has long been felt that the needs of an individual are expressed in his daydreams or fantasies. The purpose of the present study was, then, to investigate empirically the relationship between reported daydreaming behavior and manifest needs.

A Study Of The Performance Of Sixth Grade Girls On The Vigotsky Block Test, R. Sherilyn Meece

Psychology ETDs

There is a large body of evidence (e.g., 9, 13) to indicate that as an individual develops there are both quantitative and qualitative changes in the concepts he uses to group stimuli. An appraisal of this research reflects two immediate deficiencies: (a) there is a scarcity of controlled, systematic studies using normal children as subjects: and (b) there is a lack of instruments suitable for comparative studies across wide areas of the developmental range.

The Effect Of Restricted Homogeneous Visual Input Upon Exploratory Behavior Of The Hooded Rat, William Parke Fitzhugh Jul 1964

The Effect Of Restricted Homogeneous Visual Input Upon Exploratory Behavior Of The Hooded Rat, William Parke Fitzhugh

Master's Theses

During the last decade increasing attention has been paid to the effects of the perceptual variables in the environment of an organism upon the behavior of that organism. The importance of deprivation of exteroceptive stimulation is shown by the study of Bexton, Heron, and Scott (1954). Human Ss were placed in an isolated cubicle and wore equipment restricting visual and tactual stimulation. The Ss reactions included hallucinations, deterioration of intellectual abilities, and inability to tolerate the treatment for extended periods.

A Comparison Of Normal And Retardate Performance On The Mira Myokinetic Psychodiagnosis, Victor L. Baldwin Jul 1964

A Comparison Of Normal And Retardate Performance On The Mira Myokinetic Psychodiagnosis, Victor L. Baldwin

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

The Objective of the present study was to compare performance of normals and retardates on an expressive motor task. The test used was the Mira Myokinetic Psychodiagnosis. This test was selected because of its quality of objectivity and lack of use in the area of mental retardation. The need for such a study is evidenced by the speculation of various authors concerning the role of expressive motor behavior in personality development and its diagnostic value. The test was administered to twenty normals and twenty retardates. The retardate sample was selected from the patient population of Parsons State Hospital and Training …

The Effects Of Anxiety Producing Stimuli On Visual Perceptual Thresholds: A Study In Perceptual Defense, David A. Johnson

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this investigation was to examine experimentally the phenomenon of perceptual defense as it is related to cigarette smoking behavior. In making this examination a population of undergraduate college students was divided into three groups according to their smoking habits. The three groups were identified as smokers, non-smokers, and quitters. A list of smoking related words was equated with a list of neutral words according to their frequency of appearance in print. These lists of words were then combined to form one list with a random distribution of smoking and neutral words, and this list was presented as …

A Study Of The Effect Of Varying Serum Phenylalanine Levels On Changes In Intelligence Quotient, Darlene Imai Manullang Jun 1964

A Study Of The Effect Of Varying Serum Phenylalanine Levels On Changes In Intelligence Quotient, Darlene Imai Manullang

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Data from thirty medical records of phenylketonuric children under treatment were investigated to determine at which serum phenylalanine level (0-3.9 mg. %, 4-7.9 mg %, 8-11.9 mg. %, greater than 12 mg. %) there would be the greatest increase in intelligence. The children involved in the study were divided into the following groups according to the age dietary treatment was initiated: 0 through 5 months, 6 through 11 months, 12 through 23 months, and over 2 years of age.

Among 6 patients who were placed on the diet during the first 5 months of life, it appears that the optimal …

Correlation Between Some Of The Cattell Objective-Analytic Personality Tests And Biographical Data, Ronald Nixon Taylor

Student Work

Although there Is little agreement as to the exact definition of the term "personality," there is almost universal agreement as to the wide scope encompassed by this term and the tremendous influence of the personalities of individuals in every area of their lives and on the lives of those around them. Its importance in college activities, as in all other areas of behavior, can scarcely be denied.

An Investigation Of Employee Attitudes And Employee Performance, Richard V. Washburn Jun 1964

An Investigation Of Employee Attitudes And Employee Performance, Richard V. Washburn

Masters Theses

Industrial managers are showing an increasing interest in employee attitudes, opinions and morale. This conclusion is reflected in the fact that many companies conduct attitude and opinion surveys, train their supervisors in human relations and provide other functions designed to create favorable attitudes.

Management concern for the promotion of favorable employee attitudes may be attributed to two main factors. Part of the concern may be attributed to a general trend toward greater social responsibilities of industry. The other, and perhaps greater part can be attributed to an assumption that employees with favorable attitudes are more productive than those with generally …

Group Cohesiveness And Group Productivity, Michael M. Makedonsky Jun 1964

Group Cohesiveness And Group Productivity, Michael M. Makedonsky

Masters Theses

Group Cohesiveness and Group Productivity

Cartwright and Zander (1953) distinguished at least three different meanings in their intuitive and operational descriptions of group cohesiveness: (a) attraction to the group, (b) morale, and (c) coordination of efforts of group members. Others have attempted to classify meanings of cohesiveness into two general categories. One category of definitions centers chiefly on particular aspects of group behavior or group process. Here, the meaning of cohesiveness refers to "sticking togetherness," productivity, task involvement and good team work. A common observation is that members of a cohesive group display a feeling of "we-ness" or "togetherness," meaning …

Children's Friends In Ability Vs. Randomly Grouped Classrooms, Nolan Kay Griffin May 1964

Children's Friends In Ability Vs. Randomly Grouped Classrooms, Nolan Kay Griffin

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

For over forty years ability grouping has been of professional concern to educators in the United States (Reisner, 1936). There have been fundamental changes in educational theory and practice during that time, one of which is the recognition that educational practices must adjust to individual differences. The interpretation of "equal opportunity" in education has gradually changed from meaning the same methods, standards, and course content for all children, to meaning the full opportunity for each child to develop his own potential in a school program suited to his individual capacities and needs.

The interpersonal relationships and social development of school …

A Description And An Evaluation Of The Admissions Policy At Utah State University As It Relates To Low Performing Students, Vincent Eugene Erickson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

It has been evidenced by the increased amount of contacts being made in Counseling Services of Utah State University that students have been very much concerned about whether or not they should be in college. The discussion concerning which college to attend has been heard often among high school graduates, and for many, Utah State University has been a first choice. An increased drop-out rate among students has been found in the past few years. This study has been accomplished to determine which of the entering students at Utah State have been sufficiently prepared to enter into a course of …

Pupil Attitudes Toward School, Peers, And Teachers Under Ability-Grouped And Random-Grouped Systems In Weber And Ogden School Districts, Val R. Christensen May 1964

Pupil Attitudes Toward School, Peers, And Teachers Under Ability-Grouped And Random-Grouped Systems In Weber And Ogden School Districts, Val R. Christensen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Attitudes are usually defined as feelings for or against something (Remmers and Gage, 1955). They are very important in the lives of people because they help determine future success in an individual's life. Because of them one works to get the things he wants, one votes for or against certain issues, one joins a cause, opposes something, or attempts to influence others.
