Differences between scores of verbal and performance tests were measured by a specified criterion, disparity. The problem, findings, and interpretations were limited to these criteria.

The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory is one instrument which tests all of the more important phases of personality. This test was chosen as the device to be used in this study to determine the personality traits of the women involved. Therefore, the purpose of this study …

The Mosaic Test As A Diagnostic Indicator Of Schizophrenia, Irvin Arthur Hansen Jr. Jan 1954

The Mosaic Test As A Diagnostic Indicator Of Schizophrenia, Irvin Arthur Hansen Jr.

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Within the past decade the field of clinical psychology has become increasingly concerned with projective tests as a means of facilitating the understanding of the dynamic makeup of the individual personality. The enthusiasm over these techniques has resulted in the development of a barrage of projective techniques, purporting to uncover dynamics and "complexes" to a sometimes fantastic and often dubious extent. The subjective nature of these tests appears to render them most difficult to quantify and validate experimentally. Although the Mosaic test dates its origin twenty-five years back, there have been few, if any, successful validation studies. Those that have …

Electric Shock Therapy And The Word Association Test, Lowell Franklin Jennings Jan 1954

Electric Shock Therapy And The Word Association Test, Lowell Franklin Jennings

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The Word Association Test has been less frequently used in recent years with the advent and popularization of many new projective techniques. From a clinical viewpoint the method is limited in that it gives insufficient material for a description of the personality as a meaningful whole, individual administration is time consuming, and the tendency is to indicate the presence of an emotional disturbance without denoting the exact nature of that disturbance. A look at the Word Association Tests's long and respectable history will find that this test has been used clinically and experimentally by many prominent men. A survey of …

A Simplified Revision Of The Keston Music Preference Test, Barbara Jean Snodgrass Sep 1953

A Simplified Revision Of The Keston Music Preference Test, Barbara Jean Snodgrass

Psychology ETDs

The purpose of this study was to revise and simplify a new and involved test of musical preference. The Keston Music Preference Test in its original form consisted of sixteen phonograph record discs, or thirty-two sides in all. It took approximately three hours to administer, and the grading procedure was extremely complex and time consuming. However, in spite of these difficulties, the test has demonstrated its usefulness in measuring musical discrimination, or musical sophistication among high school students and college students. It seemed highly desirable, therefore, to reduce the length of the test and to simplify the grading system of …

Introversion-Extroversion And Musical Taste, John H. Schopler Sep 1953

Introversion-Extroversion And Musical Taste, John H. Schopler

Psychology ETDs

In an article in press by M. J. Keston and Isabelle Pinto, certain factors possibly influencing musical preference were investigated. Of all the factors tested, thinking introversion-extroversion, as measured by the Heston Personal Adjustment Inventory, Scale A, had the highest correlation with musical preference. The purpose of the present study is to determine whether or not this relationship between introversion-extroversion and musical preference will be found with another measure of introversion-extroversion used.

An Experimental Analysis Of The Reinforcement Process, Raymond Robert Shrader Aug 1953

An Experimental Analysis Of The Reinforcement Process, Raymond Robert Shrader

Masters Theses

The reinforcement process as it applies to learning theory has been the subject of an increasing amount of attention in recent years. This attention is reflected in the controversial question of whether or not reinforcement is a necessary condition for learning and it is reflected even more so, for those who adopt an affirmative position on the question, in their attempt to demonstrate the relationship between reinforcement and learning. Whatever the bias of the theorist there has been an overall concern with making more explicit the reinforcement process. With regard to this latter problem we find several points of view …

It was the purpose of this study to compare the reactions to frustration of a group of Spanish-American male delinquents with a group of Spanish-American delinquent boys, utilizing the Rosenzweig Picture-Frustration Study, to determine whether or not there were significant differences in their response in terms of the Rosenzweig scoring dimensions. Another purpose of the study was to determine whether or not aggressive behavior correlated with any dimension on the Picture-Frustration Study. Finally, it was though that the study might reveal whether or not there were significant differences in responses to frustration between different cultural groups. If such a difference …

An Analysis Of Certain Responses To A Color Association Test, Norbett Lawrence Mintz Jun 1953

An Analysis Of Certain Responses To A Color Association Test, Norbett Lawrence Mintz

Psychology ETDs

The study to be presented in this thesis is a direct outgrowth of four years of work by the writer and his associates. Because none of the previous studies has been published and no statement of the over-all purpose of this study exists, it was deemed advisable to review the entire background of the present investigation. Therefore, the thesis has been divided into two parts.

Part One Shall: (1) demonstrate that the color association test resulted from a combination of color matching technique and the word association method; (2) present the purpose for which the test was developed; (3) review …

Personality Differences Between Fighter And Non-Fighter Pilots, William A. Marcum Apr 1953

Personality Differences Between Fighter And Non-Fighter Pilots, William A. Marcum

Psychology ETDs

This study attempts to distinguish personality factors which may influence Air Force pilots in their choice of a specific type of aircraft for their primary flying duty.

It is not the purpose of this study to investigate the personality of the versatile pilot, who seems equally adapted in terms of mental attitudes, personality matrix, and flying skill for any and all type of aircraft. Instead, the research is focused on those pilots whose preference and capabilities have channeled them into flying either fighter or non-fighter aircraft.

In the expectation that the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, with its scope and classification …
