The Importance Of Play, Laura V. Douglas
The Importance Of Play, Laura V. Douglas
Education Student Dissertations
While reading the "Principles of Educational Sociology" by Walter Robinson Smith, the writer was deeply impressed by the statement that "Next to the family group and home life, the play group and play life exert the most vital influence upon the unfolding personality of the child." The writer wondered if it was the absence of play life, as American born children of fair social background experience it, that would in some measure explain the dullness of the Italian-American child of Sicilian and Neapolitan origin, who, as the writer knew him, was so lovable, so anxious and eager to please and …

Procedure In A Study Of Speech Disorders, Herbert Edgar Rahe
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The chief purpose of this thesis is not to present a body of scientific observations in support of one particular theory of treatment. Nor is this the place to record the testing out of all of the possible theories presented.
Nevertheless, the results of some practical experience are recorded to show the necessity of understanding the psychogenetic approach to this neglected phase of our education, as well as understanding the organic approach, My chief aim is first to be of aid to teachers in the grammar schools who are confronted most with this problem; and, secondly, to stimulate further research …

A Psychological And Educational Study Of The Language Factors Of The American Research Council. Psychological Examinations Administered To Freshmen At The College Of The Pacific In The Years 1925, 1926, And 1928, Chester Livingston Hoar
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this thesis is to determine, as far as possible, the extant to which the language-factor tests included in present psychological examinations administered to freshmen at the Collage of the Pacific are reliable as factors contributing to an estimate of the capacities of the individuals examined.
This necessitates a study of both the gross and language-factor tests scores
In making the study, the results of examinations given in three years,—1925, 1926, and 1928, —were utilized. The total number of cases included in these years was 560, a sufficient number to warrant the placing of considerable reliance upon the …
The Psychology Of Memory, James Ernest Jackson
The Psychology Of Memory, James Ernest Jackson
Masters Theses
Throughout all the ages man has had some faint realization of the tremendous importance of memory. Even today we realize its full importance only faintly. Memory is undoubtedly one of the most important functions of the mind. Without memory the mind is nothing. Memory is one of the basic and fundamental elements of the mind.

Religious Experience In The Light Of Current Psychology., Elwyn Judson Trueblood 1896-1963
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Psychology is receiving a new emphasis in the modern age. The subject of human consciousness, always fascinating, is now claiming our attention as never before. When we endeavor to link psychology with religion, the charm is greatly increased; for then we are dealing with two themes, rather than one, in which mankind has an abiding interest -- the human consciousness and the human soul. Thus, the psychology of religion has grown to be one of the most popular studies of our generation. Indeed, an eminent authority in this field ventures the opinion that the theoretical as well as the practical …
Some Philosophical Implications Of Behaviorism., Harold Wayland Tribble
Some Philosophical Implications Of Behaviorism., Harold Wayland Tribble
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Psychology is the middle ground between philosophy and science. Philosophy deals with the interpretation of facts, with, a view to determining their ultimate cause. It is the search for knowledge of general principles--elements, powers, causes and laws--as explaining facts and existences. Science is systematized knowledge of facts, laws and proximate causes, gained and verified by exact observation. Science is the effort to show how laws operate, and how certain facts affect other facts. Philosophy seeks to show why laws operate as they do, and to discern what is the first fact. Science deals with the sequence of events and effects …
A Study Of The Relation Between Intelligence And Accomplishment As Shown By The Use Of Standardized Tests In A "Main Street" School, Cora Nelle Freeman
A Study Of The Relation Between Intelligence And Accomplishment As Shown By The Use Of Standardized Tests In A "Main Street" School, Cora Nelle Freeman
Psychology ETDs
The literature upon the subject of Standardized tests has dealt almost entirely with either city schools or rural school surveys. The Devil did not make the little towns, but they are made up of our great middle classes and are deserving of all that science discovers. Many teachers come from this class. They have received their public school education in the small town schools and are now teaching there. Give the children of these places the best and as our future leaders they will give their best to society.
This study is made with the idea of benefiting not only …

A History Of The Treatment Of Insanity In Massachusetts, Robert U. Cooper
A History Of The Treatment Of Insanity In Massachusetts, Robert U. Cooper
Historical Dissertations & Theses
In this thesis, an attempt has been made to sketch the progress in the treatment of mental disorders, from the earliest records to the present time. The introductory account of the conditions before the seventeenth century briefly considers the methods employed in Europe and Northern Africa prior to that date, while the main narrative is confined principally to the advancement achieved in Massachusetts since the Colonial days. For the sake of convenience and clarity, the legislative progress, the development of institutions and the improvement in methods of treatment, have been separated, as far as expedient, in the presentation of the …
Organic Inferiority And Its Psychic Compensation In Relation To Physical Education, Earl F. Zinn
Organic Inferiority And Its Psychic Compensation In Relation To Physical Education, Earl F. Zinn
Historical Dissertations & Theses
While character has long been a matter of man's prime concern, it is only in recent years that psychology has been in a position to effectively attack the problem. For the first time in its history is this science equipped with both a point of view and a method which give every promise of ultimately solving this most vital and perplexing of human problems. One of the distinctive features of this viewpoint pertains to the somatic relationship. From this, organic integrity and physical health are seen in a new light. This is of decided significance for physical education.
The increased …
Some Aspects Of Individual Psychology, Curtis T. Williams
Some Aspects Of Individual Psychology, Curtis T. Williams
Historical Dissertations & Theses
This study is concerned primarily with tracing differences, somatological and mental, which mark off one individual from another. The term "differential psychology" may be applied in the sense of William Stern. This newer field of individual psychology, although relying on the parent stem for much of its stimulus and data, is receiving increasing attention ans has reached the stage where it may be called a separate discipline.

The Psychology Of Senescence: An Introductory Study, Charles W. St. John
The Psychology Of Senescence: An Introductory Study, Charles W. St. John
Historical Dissertations & Theses
The following biographical studies have been made with the purpose of showing through concrete cases some aspects of mental decline in senescence. To the objection that each of these cases follows a course in a degree divergent from that of normal mental decline, the reply is that a study of these striking instanced, we believe, afford a more ready insight into the underlying phenomena than would a similar one which deals with average or typical cases. The significance of exceptional cases should not be underestimated. Certain peculiar conditions have been present which have modified the typical phenomena, but after due …
A Swedish Population Of Worcester: A Study In Social Survey, Karl J. Karlson
A Swedish Population Of Worcester: A Study In Social Survey, Karl J. Karlson
Historical Dissertations & Theses
This paper is not going to be an historical sketch of the growth and development of the population, but instead a description of the status quo of an industrial, peace-loving, and law-abiding Swedish settlement. The material for this thesis has been gathered from statistics of churches and societies, in personal interviews with prominent men who has been closely associated with the Swedish people for a great many years, and from personal observation and investigation. It is needless to say, I think, that I shall present the facts as I have found them and be as impartial as anybody possibly can.

JADARA
Using grounded theory analysis, the current study identifies the perspectives of therapists and counselors regarding the nature of informal and formal resources supporting the treatment of deaf individuals with trauma. Nineteen counselors and therapists were interviewed, and accessibility, formal support, informal networks, and gaps in resources were identified as salient themes. Subsequent analysis identified concerns with confidentiality as a strong theme. This study emphasizes the need for counselors and therapists to become mindful of utilizing resources to support the treatment of trauma while being concerned with confidentiality.
