It was the purpose of this study to make application of Carl H. Rogers' non-directive method of psychotherapy in the treatment of juvenile delinquents. The study was set up in an effort to determine the value of such a treatment procedure as one method of treating this type of individual.

The hypothesis to be tested was that non-directive psychotherapy would improve the personal and social adjustment of institutionalized delinquents. Supporting this general assumption the following three corollaries were assumed: (1) that improved personal adjustment would be reflected in adjustment inventories, (2) that improved social behavior would be reflected in social …

A Study Of Frustration Tolerance In Handicapped Children, Barbara Ellen Bower

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

What is adjustment? There are almost as many ways of defining it as there are ways of achieving it. To anwer the question one must first try to find the common factor of the varied definitions of adjustment. Sheviakov and Friedberg in their report of the Eight Year Study say, Desirable adjustment was thought of, generally as a process of maturation and adaptation, during which the individual is able to integrate successfully (i.e., without neurotic compromises or delinquent episodes) his primitive impulses and drives with those expectations or demands which are imposed upon him (with reference to his age, sex, …

Observations Of The Use And Efficacy Of Changing A Patient's Concept Of His Role: A Psychotherapeutic Device, Ethel Edwards Jul 1943

Observations Of The Use And Efficacy Of Changing A Patient's Concept Of His Role: A Psychotherapeutic Device, Ethel Edwards

Master's Theses

The problem we faced was to try to develop some form of psychotherapy that would not consume a great deal of time. It was desirable that it should be applicable to a wide range in type of cases and that it should be simple enough so that it would require little training on the part of the therapist. Semantics suggests that a personality may be built up because of language. The use of words as a means of communication has created a civilization yet each person because of individual differences and experiences has his own interpretation of these words. As …

A Study Of Japanese International Short Wave Radio Propaganda, Leonard A. Smoll Apr 1943

A Study Of Japanese International Short Wave Radio Propaganda, Leonard A. Smoll

Psychology ETDs

This study of Japanese war-time propaganda, beamed toward the United States and disseminated by the medium of international short wave radio, was inspired by these considerations. War-time restrictions on the press, local broadcasting, and landline facilities close the channels to which Japan could get the desired propaganda material into a neutral country, she would have no assurance that the material would reach the ultimate objective in unadulterated form. These obvious barriers to Japan's propaganda machine raise the question: Is there any channel or communication through which Japan may direct biased information straight to the recipient, and delivered uncensored? The answer …
