A Critical Analysis Of The Church Viewed As Struggling Within The Continuum Of Matriarchal-Patriarchal Principles, Robert C. Alexander Jan 1966

A Critical Analysis Of The Church Viewed As Struggling Within The Continuum Of Matriarchal-Patriarchal Principles, Robert C. Alexander

Graduate Thesis Collection

It is the thesis of this paper the the Church possesses traits which are characteristic of the human personality; therefore, her spiritual movement can be understood and dealt with through insights of the Oedipus Complex Theory initially described by Sigmund Freud in his discussion of personality development, greatly elaborated upon by Erich Fromm in his book, The Forgotten Language.

04 Taupule, A Woman From Tuvalu, Johnson Siota, Pita Sharples Dr, Priscilla Taulupo, Bill Donner

Sikaiana Oral Stories

This recording was made by Johnson Siota was part of linguistic research conducted by Dr. Pita Sharples among the Sikaiana people of the Solomon Islands n the 1960s. The transcription in Sikaiana is by Priscilla Taulupo and the rough translation is by Bill Donner. The story of Taupule was well known to Sikaiana people during my stays in the 1980s on Sikaiana. She came from the Tuvalu and was dropped off on Sikaiana by a trader during her pregnancy, sometime in the late 1800s. She warned traders that life would change from contact with Europeans. her descendants felt a certain …

The Vanguard (Vol. 13, No. 6), Aug-Sep 1966, Lutheran Human Relations Association Of America

The Vanguard

In November, 1964, The Lutheran Witness commented on the Nobel Prize awarded to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There were those who immediately responded to the article, criticizing both Dr. King and the Witness for casting him in a favorable light.

It is to be expected that there will be some who take exception also to a statement made recently by the President of the American Lutheran Church, Dr. Fredrik A. Schiotz: "Many well-intentioned people have been critical of Dr. King, calling him a Communist. The time for indulging in this luxury is over. It is time for all who …

A second meeting has been called by Dr. Oliver Harms, President of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, to discuss the racial revolution and the church . The Synod's vice presidents and a selected group of churchmen who are directly concerned with urban ministry will constitute the assembly, to convene in Chicago December 8th and 9th .

The Vanguard (Vol. 13, No. 4), June 1966, Lutheran Human Relations Association Of America

The Vanguard

The federal government is not the only agency which chooses to fight aggressively the destructive forces at work in the poverty pockets of our cities. In Kansas City, Faith Lutheran Church had long been serving the Northeast Neighborhood in its direct and straightforward way when, in July of 1965, the newly-created Office of Economic Opportunity decided, upon petition by the church, to devote a portion of its funds to this predominantly Negro, lower-income area of the city. The agreement which enabled this cooperation to take place stated that all clients would be served regardless of religious affiliation, and that all …

The Vanguard (Vol. 13, No. 3), Apr-May 1966, Lutheran Human Relations Association Of America

The Vanguard

For years the vast majority of America's people have backed away from becoming involved in attempts to solve our country's racial problems. Perhaps one reason is the immense and complex nature of these problems. Perhaps they feel there is nothing really that an INDIVIDUAL can do about them.

The Lutheran Human Relations Association of America believes that MANY INDIVIDUALS working away at the problems - in many different places at the same time can achieve much. But it is necessary that there be no postponement. On the strength of such convictions, in cooperation with Valparaiso University, LHRAA has chosen to …

The Vanguard (Vol. 13, No. 2), Mar 1966, Lutheran Human Relations Association Of America

The Vanguard

Good Christian people often ask members of the staff of the Lutheran Human Relations Association of America, "What can we do? What can we do to become responsibly involved in the civil rights struggle?" There are many things that can and must be done. A plan that has been in the process of development for a number of years, is what LHRAA has called the Rural Summer Vacation Project. Children from the inner city, mostly from underprivileged homes-Indian American, Negro, Appalachian Mountain, et al-are taken into the homes of "host parents" for one or two weeks in rural, small-town, or …
