Selected Factors Which Influence Church-Related Education In Developing Countries, Stuart Paul Berkeley

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The general problem of this study was to investigate and analyze selected social, political, and economic factors in Ethiopia that affect the continuation and development of education by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The specific purpose of this research was to develop from this analysis of Ethiopia those alternatives and recommendations which would aid Seventh-Day Adventist leaders in the development of plans for educational work in that country.

The basic question was: Can the Seventh-Day Adventists system of education plan for the social, political, and economic changes taking place in Ethiopia?

The Vanguard

21 students and instructors from the University of Pennsylvania helped local Negroes erect a $10,000 community center during Christmas vacation. The community center was considered an essential support for nine Negro families who are striking for decent wages, because it will provide a focus for an economic co-operative to sustain those who are opposing the current $3 per day wage scale paid to them for sunrise to sunset labor.

The Lutheran Church in America, meeting in convention June 21-29 in Kansas City, Missouri, passed two recommendations which commit that church body to a broader and more intensive ministry to the Indian American. The two recommendations were embodied in the convention report of the LCA's Board of American Missions, and grew out of a special study conducted for the Board by Miss Henrietta Lund, consultant to the United Nations for the National Lutheran Council. Miss Lund has done a number of comprehensive studies for the LCA and other Lutheran church bodies on various aspects of the Church's ministry to the …

The study includes brief histories of a manuscript paper, the Academic Monthly, and four non-newspaper publications: the Academic Review, The Normal, The Business Journal, and the Journal of Pedagogy, all of which influenced and stimulated publication of the first short-lived student newspaper, The B.Y.A. A Study Of Moral Development In Mormon Culture, Steve Foster Gilliland Jan 1966

A Study Of Moral Development In Mormon Culture, Steve Foster Gilliland

Theses and Dissertations

Previous studies have indicated that the moral development of the child may follow a "developmental" process. That is, the child progresses through an invariant series of stages, each characterized by certain modes of thought. As the child passes from one stage to another, he integrates the old stage into the new one. Kohlberg proposed a hierarchy of six stages through which the child would progress on his way to moral maturity. His hypothesis has been supported by empirical evidence.

Research findings have indicated that the Mormon culture appeared to be different in values and moral behavior than other United States …

Three Aspects Of Postdivorce Social Adjustment In Mormon Utah And Protestant Nevada, Sonia Lillard Richardson Jan 1966

Three Aspects Of Postdivorce Social Adjustment In Mormon Utah And Protestant Nevada, Sonia Lillard Richardson

Theses and Dissertations

Since this writer has been confused by what seems to her to be radically different attitudes toward marriage and divorce in her own home town (Las Vegas, Nevada) and in Utah communities where she has been residing for the past five years, the social adjustment of female divorcees in these two locations was studied. The purpose was to begin to build knowledge about postdivorce adjustment, and it is hoped that future students of the family will be inspired to further investigate postdivorce problems.
