n January and April 2014, an intensive archeological survey was completed in order to inventory and evaluate archeological resources within six proposed work areas, primarily potential shaft locations, along a proposed 3.7-kilometer (km) or 2.8-mile wastewater interceptor pipeline adjacent to Parmer Lane, also known as Farm-to-Market (FM) Road 734 in northwest Austin, Travis and Williamson Counties, Texas. The six areas—two along the southwest side of Parmer Lane and four along the northeast side— cover a total of 9.7 hectares or 24 acres. On January 15, 2015, archeologists from Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Environmental Affairs Division-Archeological Studies Branch conducted a reconnaissancelevel survey of 3 acres of a five acre tract adjacent to State Highway 317 in Bell County, north of the City of Belton. The property will be excavated for a stormwater retention pond. The survey found shallow rocky soils and exposures of limestone bedrock throughout the project area. Historic maps indicated a house structure with the project area. The survey was undertaken on behalf of Denton Municipal Electric (DME) for a proposed substation facility that will connect with the existing Texas Municipal Power Agency 138 kV transmission line extending from the Denton North Interchange to the Arco Substation. The City of Leander contracted HDR Engineering, Inc. (HDR) to conduct an intensive cultural resources survey in advance of proposed road improvements to Hero Way (Old FM 2243) in the City of Leander, Williamson County, Texas. The project consists of the renovation of 2.7 miles of roadway with an Area of Potential Effects (APE) that includes approximately 1.9 miles of new linear Right-of-Way (ROW) and 3.1 acres of non-linear APE. The archaeological investigation conducted by HDR consisted of intensive survey of the APE to determine the presence/absence of archaeological resources by employing pedestrian survey, shovel testing, and photo documentation. In July and August of 2014, under Texas Antiquities Permit #6914, Hicks & Company completed an intensive archeological survey of the Alazan Creek and Martinez Creek Hike and Bike Trail Improvements Project in Bexar County, Texas. Since construction of the new trails and park improvements will take place on land to be owned by the City of San Antonio, it is subject to the Antiquities Code of Texas. Additionally, the project will require permit coordination with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, necessitating compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended.

In conjunction with the proposed construction of the southwest segment of State Highway 45 in southern Travis County, the Texas Department of Transportation sponsored archeological testing and data recovery efforts at the Ransom Williams farmstead. Prewitt and Associates, Inc., conducted an interdisciplinary community-based historic archeological study of the farmstead from 2005 through 2011. Extensive archival research reveals that the 45-acre farm was owned and occupied by Ransom Williams and his wife Sarah, both former slaves, from about 1871 to ca. 1905. An intensive archeological survey was completed in order to inventory and evaluate archeological resources within the footprint of improvements to Farm-to-Market (FM) 2001 in Hays and Caldwell Counties, Texas. The archeological area of potential effects (APE) totals 8.5 miles (13.7 kilometers), extending from the intersection of Interstate Highway 35 (I-35) and FM 2001 to just east of State Highway (SH) 21 (CSJ 1776-01-018). Fieldwork was conducted on July 2-3, 7-8, and August 5, 2014 under Antiquities Permit 6936. On February 27, 2015, Prewitt and Associates, Inc. conducted an archeological survey for proposed improvements along West Borgfeld Drive from Timberline Drive to Blanco Road in Bexar County, Texas. The project will reconstruct West Borgfeld Drive from two lanes to four lanes. These improvements will take place within the existing 86-ft-wide right of way of West Borgfeld Drive and comprise a horizontal Area of Potential Effects (APE) of ca. 20 acres. The survey found that the existing right of way West Borgfeld Drive is disturbed by travel lanes, overhead and buried utility lines, previous land leveling or grading, and erosion, …
