Cedarville University’s human biology students are excelling nationally. Last year, Cindy Wingert, assistant professor of biology, administered the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society’s (HAPS) exam for her Human Structure and Function class. Wingert’s class achieved such a high average score that they ranked at the 99 percentile nationally.

The HAPS comprehensive exam was established in June of 1993 as a standardized assessment form for two semester undergraduate anatomy and physiology courses. The validated exam is administered online in a secure platform. The exam allowed Wingert to compare the performance of her class with the rest of the nation. Class results …

Cedarville University’s solar boat racing team, which has won nine world solar splash titles, hopes to build its next boat so that it will “fly on water.”

Leading this effort for Cedarville are former solar boat team members Elijah Thompson and Caleb Jacobson, both 2016 mechanical engineering graduates. They and four other engineering students submitted a 20-page technical article introducing their recent breakthrough in hydrofoil design to the International Hydrofoil Society. Their work netted them an honorable mention on their website and a $1,000 prize.

Attending college is expensive; however, for Cedarville University students who participate in the university’s strong work-study program, a college education can be affordable.

According to a recent study by the Student Loan Report, a news site specializing in student loans, Cedarville University is ranked No. 174 among the best work-study program in the country. This ranking places Cedarville fourth in Ohio among private universities (Denison University, Tiffin University, and Oberlin College) and above thousands of colleges that offer the Federal Work-Study Program.

Cedarville University student-athletes will travel more cost effectively and securely this year after the university purchased two 40-seat busses. The new vehicles arrived in late August and have already been used by athletic teams.

The acquisition took more than a year of planning and budgeting, and marks a significant improvement for Cedarville’s Yellow Jacket athletic teams, which previously used chartered buses for long trips. The switch to owning busses will save the athletic department thousands of dollars.

Cedarville University’s Student Life Programs office is working to change the perception that college students are glued to their phones, and it’s using discounted coffee to make it happen. Their new program, Coffee & Community, takes place on Tuesday nights from 7-10 p.m., in Rinnova, the campus coffee shop.

The idea originated five years ago as Brian Burns, director of student life programs (SLP), watched students interact more with technology than with their peers. Burns’ solution, Coffee & Community, is an easy way for students to come to a casual environment and experience true community.

Fairborn City Schools will benefit from 60 microscopes recently donated by Cedarville University’s Department of Science and Mathematics.

College students – along with their parents – want ways to make college more affordable. One way Cedarville University has worked to save its students money is by implementing a textbook rental program.

In the 2015-16 academic year students who participated in the book program collectively saved $184,000, and over the past five years, students who rented textbooks at Cedarville saved more than $500,000.

It’S Another Record Enrollment For Cedarville University, Mark D. Weinstein

Cedarville University recorded its 10th consecutive enrollment. The university reported a total enrollment of 3,760 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs. Enrollment last year was 3,711.

The growth is due to a five percent increase of students enrolled in graduate and professional programs, five percent growth in transfer students, and an 85.3 percent retention rate. There are 372 students pursuing graduate degrees in Cedarville University’s six programs, and 3,388 students enrolled in undergraduate programs.

Three professors and 23 Cedarville University pharmacy students will be recognized for their involvement in Gov. John Kasich’s “Start Talking!” drug-free initiative Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Governor’s Residence and Heritage Garden in Columbus.

The initiative was created by Kasich and first lady Karen Kasich in an effort to prevent drug abuse. The Governor’s Office of Faith Based Community Initiatives collaborated with Cedarville’s School of Pharmacy to create and develop a scriptural drug abuse program on the dangers of substance abuse that can be an educational resource to churches throughout Ohio. Cedarville University is listed among the top 10 Christian college music programs in the United States according to Christian Universities Online. Cedarville, ranked ninth, is the highest-ranked college in Ohio.

Ranked institutions were evaluated based on the following criteria: number of undergraduate and graduate music degrees offered, faculty-to-student ratio, percent of full-time beginning undergraduates receiving grants or scholarships, selectivity, overall retention rate and overall graduation rate.
