Casting The Bigger Shadow: The Methods And Business Of Petrucci Vs. Attaingnant, Sean A. Kisch

Musical Offerings

The music printing of Ottaviano Petrucci has been largely regarded by historians to be the most elegant and advanced form of music publishing in the Renaissance, while printers such as Pierre Attaingnant are only given an obligatory nod. Through historical research and a study of primary sources such as line-cut facsimiles, I sought to answer the question, how did the triple impression and single impression methods of printing develop, and is one superior to the other? While Petrucci’s triple impression method produced cleaner and more connected staves, a significant number of problems resulted, including pitch accuracy and cost efficiency. Attaingnant’s …

Nearly 900 New Students Set To Arrive For “Getting Started", Mark D. Weinstein

Cedarville University will welcome close to 900 new students Friday, Aug. 19, for the start of the 2016-17 academic year.

The new group of freshmen and transfer students will check into their residence halls and participate in forums throughout the weekend. These forums will help acquaint the new students with the campus and university policies, procedures and culture. One highlight to Friday's experience is seeing university president Dr. Thomas White zipline across a part of campus.

In nineteenth century America, middle-class families often had domestic servants in their home. Domestic service looked different in various parts of the country and at different points in the century, but a common theme of racial tension and class struggle defined servant/employer relationships throughout the hundred year period. In Ohio, Martha McMillan recorded the events on her family’s farm in a series of journals from 1867 up until her death in 1913. Thousands of pages portray the day-to-day events of a farmer’s wife, her children, and her relationship with farm employees. New Financial Aid Guidelines Help College Students, Mark D. Weinstein

Incoming college students will have an easier way to collect financial aid for their respective universities, thanks to a new initiative by the federal government. The new guidelines will allow students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) three months earlier.

The result is expected to help students understand how much aid they will receive earlier in the college search process. Colleges are hopeful this change will help them recruit more students.

Cedarville University will host the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship Association’s (FBFA) annual youth conference July 21-23. This year marks the first time Cedarville will host the annual event.

The FBFA Youth Conference takes place during the same time as the FBFA Annual Conference, which will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana. This year’s youth conference will focus on engaging students from FBFA-member churches to help build community in their respective locations.

In just one year, a pair of Cedarville University alumni have seen their startup company reach new heights. Andrew Parks and Josh Teekell, 2007 mechanical engineering graduates and developers of Mistbox, signed an agreement with Lowe’s that allows the home improvement stores to sell their product — a device that makes air conditioners more efficient.

The Mistbox attaches to central air conditioning units and cools the outside air temperature before it enters the air conditioning unit. This process helps consumers save up to 30 percent on cooling costs, while also reducing its carbon footprint.

According to a recent study by LendEDU, Cedarville University students are among the nation’s best at earning private scholarships. LendEDU is an online resource that provides college students with information about scholarships, student loans and loan refinancing.

Cedarville ranked 20th in the country in the average dollar amount ($1,348) of private scholarships obtained by undergraduate students. The study surveyed 1,000 different colleges and universities and was based on the average amount of non-need based private scholarship funding per student.

For the second consecutive year, Cedarville University’s solar splash team was crowned world champions at the 22nd annual World Solar Splash competition. The event was held June 15-19 at Dayton’s Eastwood MetroPark.

Cedarville has now won nine of the past 13 World Solar Splash championships, making it the most decorated team in Solar Splash history.

A team of freshmen and sophomore engineering students from Cedarville University will look to capture the school’s fourth-straight national title in this year’s Autonomous Robotics Competition at the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) Conference in New Orleans on Monday, June 27.

Cedarville’s team won last year’s competition in Seattle with a score of 291.51 points — well ahead of second-place Monroe Community College (226.63). Cedarville was the only team (out of 15) to complete a successful run in the actual competition portion of last year’s event.
