Cedarville University graduate Hank Fortener is petitioning the United Nations to set asideNovember 9 as World Adoption Day. Fortener is a pastor at MOSAIC Los Angeles, founder of AdoptTogether and recently spoke at Tedx Hong Kong and Tedx Chisinau.
As a pastor, Fortener has seen many couples who want to adopt, but cannot afford it. In 2012, he founded AdoptTogether to help families bear the financial burden. Since then, the site has raised $6 million to support more than 1,400 families complete the adoption process.

Public choice economics is often criticized by its critics not primarily for its lack of empirical content, but more often from its incomplete view of human nature; i.e., its “cynicism.” Even supporters seem to implicitly accept the critics’ view of public choice as only allowing a view of government from a selfish perspective. In this article, I will examine the biblical basis for the fundamental assumption of public choice: that individuals act according to their self-interest, whether in the public or the private sector. Cedarville University has been approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education to participate in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA).
SARA is an agreement among 29 member states to standardize postsecondary distance education regulations. The program began in January 2014, and Ohio joined SARA in March of this year.
Cedarville University students can now receive supervised field placements in 28 other SARA states for clinical rotations, practicums and student teaching experiences.

A growing debate in the media continues to be over the value between public and private higher education. The perception is public education is better because universities are larger, they may cost less, and have larger operating budgets.
But are public universities superior to private institutions?
According to data provided by the National Center for Education Statistics, private colleges and universities are equivalent—or better—than the prestigious public universities.The data from Ohio's 34 private universities proves this point as they significantly outperform public institutions in four-year, minority, low-income, and first-generation graduation rates.

Five Cedarville University professors will be recognized as “Excellence in Education” honorees in the December issue of Ohio Magazine. Each December, the publication recognizes faculty members from universities and colleges across the state for their outstanding achievements in higher education.

Austin Jaquith, D.M.A., associate professor of music theory and composition, was selected as the Composer of the Year by the Ohio Music Teachers Association (MTA) on October 5.
Individuals entered the competition by submitting several of their original music compositions to the Ohio MTA for review. Jaquith’s submission included scores for clarinet, brass, piano, small ensemble and orchestra.
As the winner, Jaquith has been commissioned by the Ohio MTA to compose an original piece, which will be performed at the organization’s conference in Columbus, Ohio, in November. He will also be considered for the Distinguished Composer of the Year award …

The Cedarville University Center for Political Studies will be hosting a forum to discuss the relationship between the Constitution and Same Sex Marriage on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Center for Biblical and Theological Studies building (Room 115).
Bradley Jacob, J.D., associate professor of law at Regent University, and Mark Caleb Smith, Ph.D., professor of political science at Cedarville, will be speaking on the legal and moral implications of Obergefell v. Hodges for Christians as well as how the church should respond. The event is free and open to the public.

Washington Monthly’s annual list of 100 best baccalaureate colleges in the United States was released in its September/October issue and Cedarville University is ranked No. 22.

Cedarville University has received a $5,000 grant from the Robert A. Stranahan Jr. Charitable Advised Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation. With the hope of gaining a better understanding of the civil unrest of the 1950s and 1960s, 14 Cedarville University students traveled with faculty to historical sites in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina.
Led by Greg Dyson, director of intercultural leadership, and Murray Murdoch, Ph.D., senior professor of history, the tour was designed to bridge the gap between past and present. The goal was to give each participant the historical context for many of the social issues that are still prevalent today.

Students at Cedarville University will support two local organizations for the 2015-16 Student Government Association’s (SGA) philanthropy project.
“The 937” is an SGA initiative to support Target Dayton and Shoes for the Shoeless. Both organizations reside in the 937 area code, the reason behind the project’s name. Target Dayton and Shoes for the Shoeless provide for individuals living in poverty, which includes 34.7 percent of the population of the city of Dayton, according to the U.S. Censes Bureau. The state of Ohio’s poverty index is 15.8 percent.
