Characteristics Of Member-Established Headings In The Oclc Database, Karen S. Calhoun
Karen S Calhoun
Offers insights and recommendations on "gap" headings--OCLC member-contributed headings not covered by the LC name authority file--and suggests further analysis to identify headings for which "just in time" authority control would be appropriate. Extends what was learned in OCLC's early 1990s automated authority control project that corrected about 5.6 million headings in the OCLC database.

Don't Bet On It... The Representation Of Gambling In Baseball Cinema, Marshall Most, Robert Rudd
Robert L. Rudd
This paper examines the role of baseball films in the game's ideological war on gambling. While the central purpose behind baseball's strict prohibitions against gambling by players has been to protect the economic interests of team owners, the issue of gambling has been consistently presented in the game's cultural ideology as a moral issue, rather than an economic one. This process serves as a means of disciplining the baseball worker, and as a means of enhancing the game's appeal to middle‐class audiences. Baseball films have been an important site of the construction of this ideology, consistently portraying gambling as a …

The War Of Words: Defining The Extreme Right Party Family, Cas Mudde
Cas Mudde
This article presents an overview of the writings on the extreme right party family of the third wave (1980–95). First, the prime criterion for the classification of the party family is discussed. Second, the main critiques of, and alternatives to, the term right‐wing extremism are evaluated. Third, the political parties that are generally considered to be members of the party family are identified. Fourth, subgroups within the larger party family are examined. In the conclusion, the various writings are structured on the basis of four theoretical schools within the broader study of right‐wing extremism.

Jal Guide To Software, Courseware, And Cd-Rom: Four Internet Browsers--A Review, Robert Pasicznyuk, Joseph Zumalt
Joseph R. Zumalt
Two givens of today's Internet are diversity and volume. The Net offers a vast amount of text, sound, and graphic information. For now, getting at that information requires two ingredients: some kind of connection to the Net and a browser, a program or client that allows its user to view or listen to the network content. Browser options abound. This review with consider four packages with special attention to the browsers in each.

Nowadays, an interesting popular debate is unravelled on the Bad Astronomy’s site http://www.badastronomy.com/bablog/2006/02/04/outrage-at-attacks-on-nasa-science/ about the connection between the Big Bang and NASA.
It is more interesting that the international community of science as if would not know that the Big Bang and the General Relativity is dead since 1989.
Specification Testing In Panel Data With Instrumental Variables, Gilbert E. Metcalf
Specification Testing In Panel Data With Instrumental Variables, Gilbert E. Metcalf
Gilbert E. Metcalf
I show that specification tests for correlated fixed effects developed by Hausman and Taylor extend in an analogous way to panel data sets with endogenous regressors. Given panel data, different sets of instrumental variables can be used to construct the test. For a simple class of models, the test in many cases is asymptotically more efficient if an incomplete set of instruments is used. However, in small samples one may do better using the complete set of instruments. Monte Carlo results demonstrate the likely gains for different assumptions about the degree of between and within variance in the data.

Body Consciousness, Illness-Related Impairment, And Patient Adherence In Hemodialysis, Alan Christensen, John Wiebe, Dawn Edwards, John Michels
Body Consciousness, Illness-Related Impairment, And Patient Adherence In Hemodialysis, Alan Christensen, John Wiebe, Dawn Edwards, John Michels
Alan J. Christensen
Recent theory and evidence suggests that bodily self-focusing tendencies (e.g., private body consciousness [PBC]) may be associated with medical regimen adherence among chronically ill patients. The present study examined the joint effects of PBC and degree of illness-related physical impairment on treatment regimen adherence in a sample of 52 hemodialysis patients. It was predicted that the effect of PBC on adherence would vary as a function of patients' level of illness-related physical impairment. For patients experiencing more severe impairment, higher PBC scores were associated with poorer adherence to the prescribed medication and dietary regimen. In contrast, for patients experiencing a …

An Implementation Analysis Of The Day Care Law In The National Capital Region, Vicente C. Reyes Phd
Dr. Vicente C Reyes Jr
The implementation of the Day Care Law in the National Capital Region can be better appreciated in the light of the success and failure of the implementing agent of the Law, which is the day care center. The study looks at the status and the strengths and weaknesses of the delivery systems of the day care center. Aside from measuring the influence of the organization and management and the environment of the implementing agencies of the Day Care Law, the study also analyzes the different issues confronting the operations of the day care centers. A look into the nature of …

Trees Of History In Systematics And Philology, Robert O’Hara
Trees Of History In Systematics And Philology, Robert O’Hara
Robert J. O’Hara
«The Natural System» is the name given to the underlying arrangement present in the diversity of life. Unlike a classification, which is made up of classes and members, a system or arrangement is an integrated whole made up of connected parts. In the pre-evolutionary period a variety of forms were proposed for the Natural System, including maps, circles, stars, and abstract multidimensional objects. The trees sketched by Darwin in the 1830s should probably be considered the first genuine evolutionary diagrams of the Natural System—the first genuine evolutionary trees. Darwin refined his image of the Natural System in the well-known evolutionary …
