Background: With increasing awareness and legal issues on physician-assisted suicide (PAS) sweeping across the nation in today’s society, it is important to investigate the predominant opinions, beliefs and attitudes of American nurses toward PAS, as it will have significant implications for nursing practice.
Objectives: The purpose of this integrative literature review (ILR) was to determine the predominant perspective of nurses, including their opinions, beliefs and attitudes, regarding PAS suicide.

This paper uses experiences from a decade-long community-based research project in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago, a Mexican-American neighborhood whose residents are both experiencing and resisting gentrification, to show how displacements and contestations evolve in conversation with each other in an iterative process we could call “actually existing” gentrifications. I analyze a series of “moments” in 13 years of research in Pilsen to illustrate the constantly shifting terrain of gentrification politics, covering not just housing affordability, but the nature of identity, democracy, and belonging. Despite an extensive literature on the normative implications of different international tax regimes and an empirical literature addressing individual specific predictions, there exists little evidence encompassing the broad range of effects of taxing corporations' foreign-source income on a worldwide or territorial basis. This paper takes a more comprehensive quantitative approach by examining stock market reactions surrounding four events over the course of which Japan's 2009 adoption of a dividend exemption system was developed into proposed law. We assess the performance of three hospital merger simulation methods by means of a Monte Carlo experiment. We fi#12;rst specify a rich theoretical model of hospital markets and use it to generate "true" price eff#11;ects of a large number of hospital mergers. We then use the theoretical model to generate the data that would be available in a real-world prospective merger analysis and apply the merger simulation methods to those data. Finally, we compare the predictions of the merger simulation methods to the true price eff#11;ects. While there is some heterogeneity in performance, all three simulation methods perform reasonably well.

In 2006, Massachusetts enacted comprehensive health care reform which served as a model for the Affordable Care Act. I study the mortality effects of the reform using synthetic control estimation, relaxing two critical assumptions required to implement this method. The traditional approach assumes the existence of a perfect synthetic control, which cannot exist if the outcomes of the treated unit are outside of the "convex hull" or functions of transitory shocks. I propose simple modifications to relax these restrictions. The new estimator outperforms the traditional method in simulations. I estimate that the Massachusetts Health Care Reform reduced mortality by 3%.

Social movements can disrupt existing industries and inspire the emergence of new markets by drawing attention to problems with the status quo and promoting alternatives. We examine how the influence of social movements on entrepreneurial activity evolves as the markets they foster mature. Theoretically, we argue that the success of social movements in furthering market expansion leads to three related outcomes. First, the movement-encouraged development of market infrastructure reduces the need for continued social movement support. In this paper, we develop a novel theoretical framework detailing what collective action problems and solutions arise in market formation and under what conditions. In recent decades, China has transformed from a relatively egalitarian society to a highly unequal one. What are the implications of high levels of inequality for the lives of children? Drawing on two newly available, nationally representative datasets, the China Family Panel Studies and the China Education Panel Survey, we develop a comprehensive portrait of childhood inequality in post-reform China. Analyses reveal stark disparities between children from different socioeconomic backgrounds in family environments and in welfare outcomes, including physical health, psychosocial health, and educational performance. Public policies invariably confer or deny benefits to particular citizens. How citizens respond to relevant policies has fundamental implications for democratic responsiveness. The researchers study the beliefs of a core constituency of one of the most celebrated sex non-discrimination policies in United States history: Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. Using a novel survey of college student-athletes, they find strong support for the spirit of the policy, with the vast majority of respondents reporting the opinion that there “should” be equity. We propose parametric copulas that capture serial dependence in stationary heteroskedastic time series. We suggest copulas for first-order Markov series, and then extend them to higher orders and multivariate series. We derive the copula of a volatility proxy, based on which we propose new measures of volatility dependence, including co-movement and spillover in multivariate series. In general, these depend upon the marginal distributions of the series. Using exchange rate returns, we show that the resulting copula models can capture
their marginal distributions more accurately than univariate and multivariate generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity models, and produce more accurate value-at-risk forecasts.
