A Snapshot Of Changes In University-Based Institutional Repositories In Thailand, Wachiraporn Klungthanaboon

Several Thai universities have been developing institutional repositories for over a decade. The libraries, which are in charge of maintaining the repositories, and their repository staff have encountered challenging changes along the way. The following three major changes will be discussed in this presentation: 1) making IR collections more open, 2) aligning practices with global standards, and 3) expanding the content coverage and services to include research data.

The presentation gives the timeline of open data movement in Indonesia and the establishment of BRIN (National Agency for Research and Innovation). BRIN acts as the hub of research collaboration with open infrastructure. BRIN set up RIN (Repositori Ilmiah Nasional), national repository for journals and encouraged the development of institutional repositories. RIN Dataverse is the platform that we use in supporting the movement of open science in Indonesia; besides the implementation of One Data Indonesia and the scientific publication through Open Journal System. The pandemic is an opportunity to illustrate that Open Science practices, such as sharing the data from experiments and analysis, are doable to find successful treatments speedily. So while the pandemic is an appalling threat, it's also an amazing opening to transform research traditions. Realizing its importance for university and research potentiality, university libraries of Bangladesh permit OA to publish their content for internal and external members. The Science & Technology Policy Research and Information Center (STPI) maintains the Consortium on Core Electronic Resources in Taiwan (CONCERT). STPI conducted a survey to understand the direction of academic libraries in Taiwan collection development and support of open access. The results of the survey were presented, identified the barriers to the OA movement and the opportunities for libraries to change.

The presentation showed that the rising amount of OA full text, coupled with increased availability of open scholarly metadata due to the rise of persistent Identifiers (PID) infrastructure like Crossref, ORCID, Datacite, and Research Organization Registry (ROR) has led to the emergence of new innovative tools and features that leverage these sources of open data. He provided an overview of the range of new tools available based on open access data, which includes discovery indexes like Lens.org, literature mapping tools like Citation Gecko, Litmaps, Inciteful, VOSviewer or new features such as contextual citations and more. The various initiatives include Library Carpentry, Data Carpentry and Software Carpentry. An institutional repository (IR) was launched in 2010 for a young university in Singapore. The motivations of setting up an IR were to dissemination the research output through open access, to promote the university and researchers, and to help increase their research impact. A review was conducted on the strategies to build the IR. Some quantitative and qualitative performance indicators were selected and used to measure the success of the IR. A study conducted by Deloitte Southeast Asia and the Singapore Management University said there are four traits that could identify digitally mature organisations based on how they manage the governance, risk, and compliance aspects of digital transformation.

Local Political Corruption And M&As, Chun Liu, Yang Chen, Shanmin Li, Liang Sun, Mengjie Yang

We examine the relation between local political corruption and firms' cross-province M&As using provincial-level data on corruption in China. The results show that firms in more corrupt regions are less likely to engage in cross-province M&As. Further analyses reveal that the effects of local corruption on the probability of cross-province M&As are stronger when corrupt officers have greater impeding benefits or lower impeding costs. Meanwhile, Both ex-ante intervention and ex post punishment are important channels through which corrupt officers hinder firms' cross province M&As. Moreover, informal institutions, such as social capital and informal networks can help to alleviate the negative …
