The Teaching Of Economics - A Radical Approach To Economics: Basis For A New Curriculum, Richard C. Edwards, Arthur Macewan May 1970

The Teaching Of Economics - A Radical Approach To Economics: Basis For A New Curriculum, Richard C. Edwards, Arthur Macewan

Department of Economics: Faculty Publications

The purpose of this paper is to outline a radical approach to economics and to suggest how several important social problems might be dealt with in that framework. Our effort to develop a new curriculum is motivated by the conviction that the orthodox approach to economics cannot deal with the important problems of modern society.

Orthodox economic analysis as presented from the elementary course through the graduate seminar is based upon an acceptance of the status quo in social relations. Microanalysis presupposes the individualistic ownership and decision-making systems typical of capitalist societies, and in this narrow context the pecuniary behavior …

Field Manual Fm 55-8, Transportation Intelligence, 12 March 1970, Robert Bolin , Depositor

The emphasis of this manual is collection of relevant information in the field.

The Proposed Eastern Nebraska International Airport Plan, George T. C. Peng, Joseph H. Bain

Nebraskiana Publications

Excerpt from the prologue:

Passenger growth has led to expansion of facilities at both the Omaha and Lincoln airports; but like many others in the nation, they are rapidly becoming congested. The Federal Aviation Administration, the State Government officials, and many civic leaders in Nebraska are now becoming aware of the need for establishing a regional airport for the Eastern Nebraska region in order to promote and handle international air transportation for the future. People are also beginning to think of such a modern airport as an essential factor in bringing new industries to Nebraska and in shaping the urbanization …

Aspergillosis In Wintering Mallards, Gary Pearson

United States Geological Survey, Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center: Publications

Losses among mallards (Anas platyrhynchos ) wintering on a seepage ditch below the Garrison Dam on the Missouri River at Riverdale, North Dakota, were reported on February 24, 1968. In early February, while conducting their annual winter banding operation, personnel of the North Dakota Game and Fish Department observed approximately 1.000 mallards on the ditch. Approximately 200 mallards were banded after being captured in a walk-in trap baited with corn and wheat located on the bank of the ditch. Snow covered the area and caused the ducks to concentrate at the bait site from the time of the banding …

Some Parameters Of The Second-Order Conditioning Of Fear In Rats, Alan Kamil Jan 1969

Some Parameters Of The Second-Order Conditioning Of Fear In Rats, Alan Kamil

Papers in Behavior in Biological Sciences

The effects of CS1 duration, partial reinforcement, and trace conditioning on second-order conditioned suppression were investigated, employing 64 rats as Ss. In Experiment 1, the clearest second-order conditioning was obtained when CS1 duration was the same during both the first- and the second-order conditioning phases of the experiment. In Experiment 2, somewhat better second-order conditioning was obtained when first-order conditioning had been under conditions of partial reinforcement, delay CS-US pairing. In neither experiment were CS1 suppression and CS2 suppression during second-order testing well correlated. This aspect of the results raised the question of the influence of nonclassical conditioning factors on …

A Descriptive Analysis Of Nebraska's Unicameral Legislature, Harry W. Wade Jan 1969

A Descriptive Analysis Of Nebraska's Unicameral Legislature, Harry W. Wade

Nebraskiana Publications

What is the Nebraska "Unicameral" experience in handling problems relating to organization, procedure, leadership, and lobbying? Has the Nebraska system attracted different kinds of people to legislative service? This study was undertaken for the purpose of determining, on the basis of an investigation of the only one-house state legislative system in the nation, how Nebraska unicameralism functions in present-day circumstances and if the Nebraska experience has produced evidence of alternative ways of dealing with contemporary legislative problems which would tend to bear out the expectations of the supporters of the single-house legislature. Because the Nebraska unicameral plan employs an important …

The author adopted a survey method using a simple indiscriminate sampling technique on a structured questionnaire to the research scholars …

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Political And Legal Speeches Of Robert B. Crosby, Gilbert F. Nykodym Ii May 1968

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Political And Legal Speeches Of Robert B. Crosby, Gilbert F. Nykodym Ii

Department of Communication Studies: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

I first saw Robert Crosby as a lawyer defending Duane Pope in November 1965. I was intensely interested in the Pope trial for a number of reasons. I was interested because, first, as a law student I found the legal points of interest, second, one of my law professors, Wallace Rudolph, was serving as an assistant defense counsel in the trial and, third, having a bachelors degree in speech I wanted to see what part speaking played in this trial.

As I began graduate work in speech I took a course entitled Rhetorical Criticism under Dr. Donald O. Olson. I …

Review Of Geography Of Religions By David E. Sopher, Robert Stoddard Mar 1968

Review Of Geography Of Religions By David E. Sopher, Robert Stoddard

Department of Geography: Faculty Publications

This is the first book written in English dealing exclusively with the geography of religion. Consequently it contributes to the field of cultural geography by organizing some ideas and scattered publications dealing with the geography of religion into a single text. The major disappointment with this publication is the lack of consideration about several vital geographic questions. It is true that a small survey text cannot cover all aspects of the field, so some topics and previous studies may need to be omitted. Unfortunately the weakness of this book is not its size but its emphasis. Too many pages are …

Review Of Bhutan: A Physical And Cultural Geography By Pradyumna P. Karan., Robert Stoddard Mar 1968

Review Of Bhutan: A Physical And Cultural Geography By Pradyumna P. Karan., Robert Stoddard

Department of Geography: Faculty Publications

This “preliminary geographical appraisal” of Bhutan is an important contribution to knowledge about an unfamiliar country. Part of the contribution results from information collected by Dr. Karan during recent expeditions. Some field data are presented in the form of new maps, including those of population distribution and important valleys. (An accompanying map with settlement features on a shaded-relief base appeared earlier as Map Supplement No. 5, A.A.G. Annals.) Also, the author's bibliography and assemblage of previously scattered materials will aid future studies of the Himalayan state.

Unfortunately the book will have limited value for many geographers. The numerous pictures, …

The Role Of Adventitious Reinforcement In Operant Discrimination, Alan Kamil, John W. Davenport Jan 1968

The Role Of Adventitious Reinforcement In Operant Discrimination, Alan Kamil, John W. Davenport

Avian Cognition Papers

Rats were trained in 2 SD-SΔ discrimination experiments in which the effects of an SD-postponement contingency during SΔ and temporal regularity of SΔ duration were assessed. Experiment I showed that discrimination is markedly facilitated by the presence of an SD-postponement contingency of either fixed or variable duration. Experiment II showed that variable-duration SΔ periods in a noncontingent schedule can also greatly enhance formation of an operant discrimination. These effects were attributed to differences in the probability of adventitious reinforcement of SΔ behavior by SD events.
