This is the manual for the first year of the 4-H Electrification club. The purpose of this publication is to assist young, rural people to become better acquainted with electricity and its uses. Each year more and more Nebraska farms are being supplied with central station or Hi-Line electric service. This means that most young people can look forward to living on Nebraska farms that can be equipped with electrical appliances and machines.

The first year of the 4-H food preservation project teaches approved methods of canning fruits and vegetables and stresses the foods needed for good health. The second year aims to continue this study of nutrition and takes up the canning of meats, relishes and fruit spreads. Some canning is also included in the cooking club projects. It may be practical to dry, brine, freeze or store some foods, and club members may substitute up to one-half of the canning requirement with dried, brined, frozen or stored foods.

After World War II, American forces in Europe set up the Field Intelligence Agency, Technical (FIAT) to host and provide administrative support for visiting American experts who were studying German industry. This document is Special Technical Bulletin No. 5, 13 March 1945, issued by the Office of the Director of Intelligence, Army Service Forces.

The Enemy Equipment Intelligence Service Teams (EEIS) were personnel from the Army Technical Services – the Ordnance Department, Chemical Warfare Service, Quartermaster Corps, Signal Corps, Army Medical Department, and Transportation Corps – which were trained by the Army Service Forces to collect enemy equipment for use in the field and for evaluation in the field and in the continental United States.

This memorandum is addressed to all theater commanders and the commanders of all ports of embarkation.

It provides that “arrangements be made at once to insure [sic] that samples of enemy equipment and materiel be delivered to the United States…” for study and analysis.

It instructs the chiefs of transportation in each theater to expedite shipment of captured materiel to the US.
