Since each year's agenda is developed around the conference theme, educators and researchers can continually rely on the Forum agenda as an up-to-date source of research questions of common interest that flow from the year's most central educational issues. The Effect Of Feedback On Low-Goal Task Performance, Jeffrey David Klawsky Dec 1986

The Effect Of Feedback On Low-Goal Task Performance, Jeffrey David Klawsky

Student Work

This experiment was conducted to study the effect of feedback on task performance under a low performance standard (goal). Fifty-two undergraduate students were presented with the task of mentally summing seven single-digit numbers to solve a problem. Subjects either received a high or low goal for the number of problems to solve in 15 minutes, and continuous feedback or no feedback about how many problems they had solved. It was predicted that feedback would result in higher performance for high goal subjects and lower performance for low goal subjects. A marginal main effect of goal difficulty (p<.067) in the predicted direction was obtained, but no goal difficulty-feedback interaction. Possible explanations for the observed results are discussed along with implications for future research.

It is suggested that adolescent involvement in service activities can produce positive benefits, among which are reduced levels of alienation, improved school behavior, improved grade point average, and acceptance by the adult community. These findings also suggest that females respond more positively to school …

The period between the Civil War and World War I, for example, witnessed a large increase in predominantly male transients who followed an active labor market and formed a highly visible subcommunity called skid row. Today's homeless population, however, includes more women, children, and minorities and fewer single men and drifters than previous populations. In addition to changes in the demographic composition of the homeless population, most experts agree that the problem of homelessness is increasing.

The Effects On Public Policy Of Center-Local Relations: A Cross-National Study, Dale Krane

Public Administration Faculty Publications

This article attempts a comparative exploration of center-local relationships as part of an effort to test the effect on public policy of concentration and devolution. To pursue these objectives, the research proceeds in two steps: (1) the identification of longitudinal patterns of public sector concentration/devolution among 17 nations and (2) time series analysis of industrial growth and social welfare progress associated with the temporal variation in public infrastructure. The results suggest that a nation's pattern of public sector evolution may be more of a determinant of policy performance than a nation's constitutional framework.
