The children were interviewed about their perceptions of the nurses in each photograph and their responses were rated as being positive, negative or neutral.

The findings of this study indicate that although significant differences exist in children's perceptions of the nurse in terms of positive, …

Resource Allocation And Factor Substitution In Guayas Basin Rice Production, Gary Scott Glen May 1974

Resource Allocation And Factor Substitution In Guayas Basin Rice Production, Gary Scott Glen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The primary objective of this study was to examine changes in resource productivity and factor shares as irrigation was introduced on small rice farms using traditional management techniques.

Average output on irrigated farms was double that of dry farms. This was because irrigated farms produced two crops as opposed to one crop on farms without irrigation. Examination of marginal products showed that farmers with irrigation could profitably use more land. Dry farmers could profitably use more labor. The low labor input and high MP of labor on dry farms occurs because these farmers are undercapitalized and are obliged to accept …

Summer Camp 1973: Recreation, An Approach To Behavior Modification, Christine Elizabeth Erni Jan 1974

Summer Camp 1973: Recreation, An Approach To Behavior Modification, Christine Elizabeth Erni

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

At the culmination of the highly successful first annual Bridgerland Special Olympics, the author decided that more recreational activities needed to be provided for the exceptional (handicapped) children of this area. Academic and vocational programs were rapidly increasing but little was being done to help these exceptional children develop their social and recreational skills. Besides, college students found interaction with the children from the Exceptional Child Center and the Benson Instructional Workshop to be so educational and rewarding that they wanted to plan other recreational activities. Consequently, interested students met in May 1973 to plan a summer camp for these …

The Fixed-Interval Presentation Of A Small Fixed Ratio, Larry Allen Alferink May 1973

The Fixed-Interval Presentation Of A Small Fixed Ratio, Larry Allen Alferink

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

In mixed fixed-ratio schedules, reinforcement is delivered according to two or more fixed-ratio components, which may be programmed in simple alternation or according to a random sequence. If the components simply alternate, the behavior is similar to that obtained in a multiple schedule. Pauses are long before long fixed ratios and short before short fixed ratios. If a random sequence is used, responding is characterized by short pauses after reinforcement independent of the size of the ratio and primes occur at the beginning of many of the fixed ratios. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the possibility …

Courts, Church-State Relationships, Water And Timber Development, And Land Policies: Major Sources Of Conflict In Utah's Territorial Years, James Wayne Mecham

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

In the settlement of the West, the Mormon response was unique. since their methods, techniques, and institutions differed from other settlers of the West, the Mormons were repeatedly censured by outsiders. Although the institution of polygamy elicited considerable emotionalism and aroused determined opposition, there were other institutions which actually contributed just as much to the conflagration.

As the Utah War [1857-58] became an embarrassment to the United States government, congress demanded of President Buchanan the grounds upon which the decision for war was based. President Buchanan thereupon presented several letters, the first of which was written on October 3, 1856, …

In two experiments pigeons were exposed to VI and FI schedules and schedules approximating both VI and FI schedules. In experiment I, the probabilities of the VI and FI components in a Mixed FI VI schedule were manipulated to create schedule contingencies approximating simple VI or FI. In experiment II, the minimum and maximum inter-reinforcement intervals were manipulated to create schedule contingencies approximating simple VI or FI. The major finding of both of these experiments was that maximal control by the dimension of time occurred as FI contingencies were approximated. Control by any one temporal value in experiment I depended …

Freshman Orientation And Career Articulation With A Rational Value Decision-Making Model, Bud W. Stephenson May 1973

Freshman Orientation And Career Articulation With A Rational Value Decision-Making Model, Bud W. Stephenson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The role identity of the college and university counseling center has been in a state of evolution for the past few years and a reconceptualized role for the college and university counselor is beginning to emerge. This evolution is the result of rapid change taking place within society and in higher education. In recent research such authors as Morrill and Oetting (1970) have noted that the programs of counseling centers in the colleges and universities are not changing along with the rest of the college environment today and programs are thus becoming more and more outdated and irrelevant. Along with …

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Since World War I, the federal government of the U.S. has played an increasingly important role in social and economic functions of the American society. Whether by direct employment or through indirect payments to private and public parties, federal programs have an unquestionable impact on the distribution of economic activity among various regions of the U.S. This impact varies directly with the relative magnitude of federal participation in total economic activity of any region.

In certain areas, federal employment reflects the greatest portion of total federal activity. Where this is true, the impact of federal employment on the distribution of …

Timber Harvesting And Regional Income Distribution, Archie Allen Dyer May 1973

Timber Harvesting And Regional Income Distribution, Archie Allen Dyer

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Numerous attempts to explain the decision making framework of public agencies with multiple goals have been published in recent years. The central problem of the multiple goal decision process of public agencies is the problem of unvalued benefits stemming from projects which the agency could potentially implement.

Regardless of the complexity of the problem, the fact remains that choices must be made between projects. As a result, several alternative procedures for analyzing the issue have been suggested. These may be subdivided into three more or less different approaches: (1) estimation of value indexes or weights for the arguments of the …
