The Influence Of College Courses On Individual Differences, Clarke Carson Mcilree

Master's Theses

What is the effect of college training upon individuals? More specifically, do college students become more alike or more unlike in , respect to the achievement involved in a college course as a result of taking the course? That is the question which this study will investigate. The importance of this question to the educator is that it involves educational technique and philosophy. If it is found that our educational system decreases individual differences and has the effect therefore, of equalizing opportunity, our philosophy of universal education as an important factor in the achievement of democracy is valid. On the …

The Value Of Relaxation As Preparation For Rational Psychotherapy, John M. Hadley

The suggested uses of relaxation given by the technique of Freud coupled with the findings of Jacobson, Ferenczi and Bagchi have prompted the investigator to make some observations of the function of relaxation in rational psychotherapy. This presupposes that relaxation is used with considerable discretion. The investigation has been stimulated by a growing tendency in the Fort Hays Kansas State College Psychological Clinic to treat patients from the standpoint of the whole individual until specific traumata can be discovered In considering the value of relaxation, it may be well to think of the individual in much the same manner as …

This topic has been chosen because of an interest in the economic and social conditions of the present day and a desire to know just how much the changing events of the world’s history during the past twenty five years have affected our attitudes toward certain economic problems. In order to do this, five fields of interest were chosen. These are, banking practice and legislation, agriculture, public finance, labor problems and trusts. A Financial Study Of The City Of Hays, Ellis County, Kansas, Lorenze Randall Bingham May 1936

A Financial Study Of The City Of Hays, Ellis County, Kansas, Lorenze Randall Bingham

Master's Theses

The great problem of municipal finance with which a majority of our municipalities are confronted at the present time is a problem that can be attacked only through a slow process of analysis and investigation. Slashing of salaries, indiscriminate dispensing with the various services offered by the city in prosperous times, and increasing of bonded indebtedness will not in any sense provide a permanent solution to the problem. The difficulty is in tracing the course of money taken in by the city from its source to its ultimate use in providing that which the citizens demand. When this has been …

The Sheriff's Office Of Ellis County, Kansas, Eugene A. Mcfarland

Master's Theses

This study has been made in the field of local government. It deals only with the sheriff's office in Ellis county , Kansas. The statutes of Kansas and their application and function show that this office is primarily the same today as it was in England in the seventeenth century. A study of the sheriff's office relates that the powers and duties are similar in Ellis county to those in England when the sheriff was a servant of the King and his court. Frequent changes have been made but the facts still remain that one of the main defects is …

The Trend Of Financing Urban Property, Irvine F. Wilson May 1936

The Trend Of Financing Urban Property, Irvine F. Wilson

Master's Theses

This thesis is intended as a survey of trends in financing urban property. Urban property, as construed by this study, includes all incorporated cities, towns, and villages. This interpretation is used firstly in order that a complete analysis might be pictured and secondly, because investments in property are not necessarily restricted because of the number of inhabitants in a particular town or city. The report abounds not only in graphs and curves which indicate movements, but also explanatory material and tabulated statistics when deemed necessary to present a complete authentic picture.

Trends In Kansas State Governmental Revenue Receipts And Expenditure, 1880-1934, Vernon Thomas Clover

Master's Theses

The main purpose of this thesis is to point out the significant trends in governmental revenue receipts and expenditures in Kansas during the period from 1880 through 1934. Especial attention is given to the state government as opposed to the local governments. The discussion in connection with the latter is confined to property tax levies, expenditures for roads, streets and bridges, and for education. Few new or startling facts are presented. The trends shown however, are based upon definite statistics and therefore give the conclusions that are drawn the element of accuracy which has usually been lacking in the popular …

In order to arrive at a solution of the foregoing problems, a study of 100 children entering the Hays Crippled Children's Clinic was made . Both laboratory and questionnaire methods were used.
